THE 10 CLOSEST Hotels to Prague Zoo

Hotels near Prague Zoo

Prague Zoological Garden is situated near the center of the Czech capital, in a unique rugged landscape on the bank of the Vltava River. It opened in 1931 and during its existence of more than 80 years it has risen to become one of the most prestigious zoos in the world. Today, it is the second most visited tourist destination in the Czech Republic, just after Prague Castle. 5,049 animals and 676 species live in Prague Zoo. You can explore 13 pavilions and 150 exhibits over 58 hectares. The kids will love the Bororo Reserve, chairlift, mini-train, observation tower, paddling pool and Children’s Zoo. The pride of the zoo is its Elephant Valley, home to a sizeable herd of Asian elephants. The Giant Salamander House, where you can see the largest amphibians in the world – the critically endangered Chinese Giant Salamanders – is extraordinary as well; and the African House with an adjacent vast meadow inhabited by herds of antelopes and giraffes is worth your attention, too.

Great day out and lots of interesting animals to see
Lovely zoo with an interesting mix of animals. Animals are clearly well cared for and the information boards were great fir learning about them all. Zoo is clean with clearly marked trails and plenty of opportunity to get snacks and drinks throughout the park. There is a steep climb to the top, but we took the cable chairs to the top then walked down which worked great for an extra 40kn each (about £1.25 and we'll worth it). All in all a great day out

    Ambivalence
Feel a bit conflicted. The zoo is a perfect space to introduce children to animals and Prague zoo is one of the best. Nevertheless, many animals display stereotypical behaviours (pacing back & forth) which points to stress. This is not a feature of Prague zoo in particular but all zoos in general. We are all in a zoo and when you stare at the animals, the animals also stare back at you.

    Huge zoo, worth a visit
This is a huge zoo with a lot of animals and a lot of ground to cover! We were here from open to close and barely saw everything (although we like zoos and tend to take our time). Some of the animals did seem stressed, as other reviewers mentioned, but most had large and nicely maintained enclosures. There were some unique and cool enclosures taking advantage of the natural landscape, too, such as incredibly steep rocky hillsides for the mountain goats. Be prepared for a lot of walking and a lot of hills - we took the chair lift to the top of the zoo (small extra cost) and worked down and felt it was worth it! We did take a taxi here since it's a ways out of the city center, but walked back to the city center after, which took about an hour and went through some lovely parks. If you have the energy for all the walking, it's very doable and we felt safe for the entire walk, surrounded by many other walkers, joggers and well kept grounds and buildings.

    Great day out.
I spent 5 hours here. The best zoo I have visited so far and I have been to a fair few over the years. Pre booked my ticket and used the local Bolt taxi's going to and from so no worries about which buses or trams to use. Lots to see and plenty place for food an drinks. I had a meal and thoroughly enjoyed, not over priced either.

My favourite zoo, happy animals, large enclosures
One of the best zoos I have ever visited. Large enclosures and happy animals. Take a good pair of walking boots though as it’s huge and steep in places but has many areas you can just sit and watch the animals. Especially recommend the gorilla house.

brilliant well kept zoo with great exhibits.
A fabulous Zoo just a short taxi ride from the old town. Full of brilliant animal displays. Great for all ages. Some quite steep paths to climb though. The ski lift wasn't operational when we went mid-week. Food was very reasonable. Loved the Aardvarks and the polar bear in his new enclosure. It felt so lovely.

Recommend to visit it, especially if you’re travelling with family.
Spend there 5 hours. If you plan to visit Prague Zoo, really recommend to plan there all day. And still there will be something that you missed. It’s easily accessible from the city centre by public transport. There are different cafes, so you could have lunch there. Be ready for a lot of walking, because Zoo is quite big (<10 hectares). In general we recommend to visit it, especially if you’re travelling with family.

    This zoo beats them all.
I have visited many zoo's in the past but this zoo beats them all. It is absolutely fantastic. It is very well priced, absolutely enormous and has a vast range of animals. The enclosures are excellent giving good views and the animals look fantastic. There are lots of toilets, places to eat and drink with very reasonable prices also. It took us 5 hours just to get around everything as it's that big.

You do not have to look for such a place in the jungle of South America or Far Asia, but right in the center of Prague. This is Papilonia – the butterfly house of Prague.
