    Fantastic museum
We spent over 5 hours at this museum and could have spent more. At the time they had an Egyptian exhibit so we did that one as well. Lots of artifacts and good descriptions of the items. The Maori exhibit was also fantastic and the carvings were especially unique and beautiful. To much to see and comment on so I highly recommend going and see them when in Auckland.
So wonderful to hear that you spent so much time at Tāmaki Paenga Hira. Thank you for visiting and for leaving such a glowing review.

    Even better than I thought!
We almost did not visit this museum as the word "War" was listed within the title of the museum and that is not among the sights that we wanted to focus on during our short stay in Auckland. There is a floor (the top I think) that is the War Museum, but this museum is so much more! We spent about 2 hours learning about the prehistory of New Zealand, Maori culture, arts, and history as well as natural history in general before we witnessed the Maori "performance" which was amazing. After that, we had a lovely tea break in the beautiful atrium area (this place is huge) and finished with more Maori research. All in all, a day that exceeded my expectations.!
Kia ora Tim, so lovely to hear you enjoyed your visit so much. There is always something for everyone.

    Auckland Museum & Cultural Exoerience
We arrived in Auckland early in the morning after a long flight. It was too early to check into to our hotel so we took the rental car to the museum, had a coffee until it opened, then enjoyed the exhibits before watching the Māori performance. It was a perfect intro to the country. Such a wonderful museum with interesting displays covering the history and culture of New Zealand. Theres even an earthquake simulators! Especially enjoyed the Māori cultural performance and haka.
Kia ora, thank you for your amazing feedback on the Māori cultural performance. We're incredibly proud that so many of our visitors enjoy it and take some of that experience home with them. Mā te wā.

    Surprisingly rich collections!
What a surprising museum. It has “war” in the name, and there are great exhibits for WWI, WWII and earlier. However, the Maori cultural exhibits were even better. The exhibits about Auckland itself were fascinating. There is so much to see at this museum.
Kia ora, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed the wide range of items on display.

Interesting museum -- enjoyed cultural aspects most
Interesting museum that combines a national war memorial, a natural history museum and a museum of the history of New Zealand and the Maori culture. We found the history and culture aspects the most interesting and spent several hours in the museum. Cafe to grab lunch. Admission costs for visitors to attend and additional cost for cultural performances.
Kia ora, thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We are so glad to hear that you found your visit so interesting. Ngā mihi.

Well worth the visit, especially for first timers to NZ
Exploring the Auckland War Memorial Museum is a "two-for-one" experience that combines both a museum and a war memorial in one grand building. Inside, we delved deep into the rich tapestry of Māori culture and Auckland's history. The day had an unexpected surprise - an immersive experience of an "imagined" volcanic eruption in Auckland Harbour that sent shivers down our spines. Well worth the visit
Kia ora Jo-Ann, thank you for sharing your experience at Tāmaki Paenga Hira. We're so pleased that you enjoyed your visit and got more out of it than you were expecting. We hope to see you again one day. Mā te wā.

Unusual, large, scattered visit for first timers.
Worth the visit but a challenge to see it all. We were unsure about the organization of the museum even with a map. We may have missed portions as first time visitors. The animals were marvelous . We were happy to find a section related to the Jewish experience.
Kia ora Marla, thanks for your review. We do definitely recommend making more than one visit to the Museum if you'd like to see everything. Our friendly visitor hosts at the front desks are always happy to offer tips so that you get the most out of your visit. Happy New Year!

You could spend a whole day here
We only visited three locations on the bus tour, and I wish we had more time here. It is a museum and war memorial that is extremely well laid out and easy to navigate. The cultural content and displays are very well done with respect to all. We only had a few hours here but could have spent the whole day.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. We're so glad to hear you enjoyed your visit so much that you ran out of time. We hope to see you again soon at Tāmaki Paenga Hira.

An excellent visit and a must for visitors
As grandparents visiting several times we had not had this history opportunity! We spent considerable time taking all in. The volcano simulator was by far the most memorable of all. Stayed for a coffee and a visit to the gift shop. Found all staff there fantastic and very helpful. A great experience! Don’t ask about the bird of the century (Poo Tiki Tiki) it is too sensitive amongst many in NZ!
Thanks for your great review Harry! We're glad to hear you enjoyed your visit at Tāmaki Paenga Hira. We hope to see you again soon!
