Great way to see the city.
Did this on our first day in Melbourne. Great way to get your bearings in the city, see places to go back to and it’s free! Lovely clean, good time info on tram stops and a one of a kind experience.

    Super efficient transport system
The city tram circle was very convenient to get to anywhere in the city. The network is so expansive that there is almost no uncovered location. It was our main mode of transport during our two weeks stay, going as far as St Kilda. One thing we could not really figure out is how the free tram zone really works, should we still tap every time we hop on within the zone, or only when we are about to leave the zone? 😁

    Beats Walking
Can't beat the free City Circle Tram service! Only discovered it a few years back as they don't like to tell New South Welshmen I think? Can't beat the frequency and it covers most of the area you would wander the the city centre. Also comes in very handy after a few beers at the Young & Jackson to get you back to your hotel and saves on shoe leather! A really good service and did I mention it's Free?

    Fantastic
Knew of Free Circle Trams. Brilliant Tourism effort. Bought passes from a 7 Eleven but suggest if stay short don’t put a lot of money on to start. We only left Free Circle to go to St Kilda. Easy and enjoyable. Rest of the visit we hopped on and off Trams which were all in Free Zone. GPS on our Mobiles didn’t work because of Hi Rise interference so recommend a good paper map.

Best way to get around the heart of Melbourne
Majority of the city tram is free, announcements will let you know what sections have to be tapped. Best way to get around the downtown Melbourne, all stops clearly marked & announced as well. Better than any hop on/hop off bus (which is no longer an option).

Small (free)tram with recorded information. Goes in one direction only.
A small tram so not a lot of space in busy periods. Good information as you travel around the centre in what is effectively a circle. It can take just over an hour to do the full route. The only drawback is the train only operates in one direction. That said, on one day, there were some protests so they had the train operating the opposite way round to the way it normally goes. What is excellent is that all trams operating within the central area, not just this one, (city maps indicate what this covers) are free.

    Loving the vibe in Melbourne.
So I finally made it to Melbourne! What a beautiful city after the last few weeks exploring Sydney and its surroundings - everyone has been telling me I would love Melbourne so much more because it has more of a European feel. 100% correct. Really love this city and can't wait to explore more of it.

    Fab And It's Free
It was noisy, sometimes the brakes screech and we let the first one go by as it was jam packed, but the next one past we easily found a seat and enjoyed a trip around the city. Works well as a hop on hop off as they are frequent and it's free. Great way to take a look around central Melbourne.
