Hotels near Panathenaic Stadium

The Panathenaic Stadium dates back to the 4th century B.C. and was the site of the first modern Olympic games in 1896 and remains the starting point of the Olympic flame torch relay. Made entirely of white marble, it's an impressive sight that's earned it the nickname Kallimarmaro or "beautiful marble". There are even a couple of hours in the morning designated for morning jogs when you run in the footsteps of former Olympians. Take a stroll up to Ardittos Hill for a panoramic view of the stadium. Tickets are required to enter the stadium, which includes a free audio guide. – Tripadvisor

    Unmissable
Absolutely worth visiting! The ticket (€10 adults and €5 children) also includes the audio guide in Italian, the story is very interesting. It takes about an hour to visit it and listen to everything. Also nice for non-athletes.

Interesting way to spend an hour.
A peaceful way to spend an hour in Athens. On entry you receive an audio guide which is easy to use and informative. The collection of torches and posters was an interesting section. Small coffee shop just outside. It is €1 to use the toilets though. Nice to couple with a walk through the gardens across the road. Some good photo opportunities and a more relaxed trip compared to some of the busier sites in Athens.

    Must see!
The heat is very strong and there is so much concrete without any more shade. Carry an umbrella with sun protection. We didn't enter because the entrance where the flags are is visible enough and the heat didn't allow us to climb so many stairs and also pay the entrance fee. It is symbolic because it was built for the first modern Olympics, just seeing it from there is enough.

    Interesting and relaxing visit
Reasonably priced entry which includes an engaging audio guide that is very easy to follow. Visitors can access the seating and climb up for views over the stadium. It doesn’t take long to visit, an hour or less, but it’s worth going. It was pretty quiet too, so nice to get away from the crowds

    Excellent site in Athens
We enjoyed this site more than we were expecting. The views are amazing. You must pay and go inside, only 10 Euros, well worth it. The view from outside does not do it justice. The small museum is interesting. You get a good view of the Acropolis as well from the 'back' side. A peaceful haven in the middle of Athens.

Fun family experience- a must do for energetic and imaginative children!
We all loved our time here. Simple but very informative audio guide included in admission price. Kids loved running around the track. An awesome place which is bought alive by the commentary and Olympic memorabilia in the exhibition spaces. Lovely walk through the National gardens to get there. Very limited facilities. Toilets accessed by turnstile that requires 1 euro coin per person

    Great Experience
The stadium is in excellent condition and impressive. We were surprised that the inside can also be accessed and that you can do actual sports in this ancient site. You can perfectly run a few rounds in it. Also it is very accessible with a stroller, just the museum rooms are a little inaccessible as there are stairs only, no elevator.

    Sweet historical/Olympic glory!
While there are many great/"must-do" sights in Athens, 'Panathenaic Stadium' should be on your list. A great audio tour (that's included with your entrance), a scenic setting a short walk from Acropolis area, plus the history of this place, which you learn more about through the audio and small museum on site. Well worth a visit! NOTE: Check to see if you can get your admission via one of those "multi-sight passes", as the 10 euro is a little high for this one visit.

A magical running venue if you can get up early enough. And an inspirational museum/tour.
Amazing. A must-see, especially if you're into sports. Entrance is €10pp including a mobile guided tour (walk up to the second booth and leave your details to borrow a mobile phone type device). The queues were not long when we returned mid-morning on a Sunday (after a run the Thursday before). The museum is a little sub-optimised in some areas but that doesn't distract from the tangible sense of history here. There's also a merch store outside and inside the museum. And for the runners amongst you (because it's not on the official website)..... *RUNNING IN THE PANATHENAIC STADIUM* Turn up before opening time, from 0730 (perhaps earlier) and the entrance staff will let you run on the track and ask you to pay the €10 Euro entrance afterwards and when the ticket office opens at 0800 ish. You'll be asked to leave your name, address, DOB and signature (not entirely sure why if you're fit, so perhaps don't use your real data!). We went on a Thursday morning in our running gear and there were only 2 other runners there, though it got busier the later it got. Wear good trainers as the track isn't very forgiving. Worth skipping breakfast and getting up and out for. Take water with you. It's magical. Take the underground to Syntagma on the red line (a couple of €'s for a return ticket) and leave the station at the 'gardens / presidential palace' exit (walk towards the souvenir stall which is by the entrance of the gardens). Walk through and out the gardens, bearing right, to the stadium which is over a busy road (a simple tourist map from your hotel will help you stay on track).

    Out of time!!
Unavoidable!! This place transported us... the stadium is colossal and well maintained... obligation to start running to earn the photo on the podium :D!! Small downside, the museum which could take us even further through time!! But to do without a doubt!!

  • Acropolis Hotels
This ancient citadel, built in the fifth century B.C., towers over the city and is home to some of the most impressive ancient ruins, buildings, and artifacts. The most famous temple, the Parthenon, was dedicated to the goddess Athena and is considered the peak of Greek art. You can avoid long lines by joining a walking tour of the site. Make sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring sunscreen, as the walk up the hill can be steep and exposed to the sun. For the best experience, visit early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heat and for fewer crowds. – Tripadvisor

You'll find quaint shops selling jewelry, clothes, ceramics, and souvenirs, plus sidewalk restaurants and family-run taverns serving authentic Greek food. Being one of the oldest neighborhoods in Athens, you’ll be able to see Roman columns, medieval churches, and ancient landmarks like the Choragic Monument of Lysicrates. The area gets busy, especially during summer, so visit in the early morning or late afternoon for fewer crowds.
