Design Museum Gent makes you aware of the big impact that design has on the quality of your daily life.

At the Museum of Fine Arts Ghent (MSK), you can discover more than 400 masterpieces of European art from the Middle Ages to the present day. In our iconic building, Old Masters such as Bosch and Rubens hang alongside Impressionists, Surrealists and Modernists. With names like Ensor, Magritte and Permeke, Belgian art is well represented. And you can now also witness the live restoration of the Ghent Altarpiece, behind the glass wall of the restoration room. The museum shop and restaurant, a diverse programme with room for contemporary art and our location in the Citadel park all turn the museum into a vibrant place where you can easily pass a few hours surrounded by beauty.

Museum of daily life: Daily events and special occasions define the rhythm of our lives. Days turn into weeks, months into years. In the exhibition, every museum room is linked to a date in the calendar, which tells a story about the theme of the room. This might be a well-known day, such as 1 January, New Year's Day. But it might be the birth of a baby in February or a couple getting married in September. These events, big and small, show that the every day is not at all ordinary. Throughout the exhibition, you will find numerous objects, photos and audio-visual images from the 20th and 21st centuries which promote a conversation about the past and present. The interactive design offers something for everyone. Touch a coffee grinder and hear it grind the beans. Smell the washing detergent of the past, dance in the wedding room, sign your own charm or read an old New Year's letter aloud.

Get to know the industrial past in this former cotton factory with a beautiful panorama. In 'About people and machinery' you take a dive into the industrial past through 5 chronological discovery stations. Listen to personal stories, walk around the self-actor, discover steam and power and stop at the listening poles. In the Tinker Studio you experiment with materials and techniques. 'Three centuries of graphic industry' tells the history of printing. Walk across the catwalk past the print shop and the type cases. Sometimes printers are at work. You will make your own minizine throughout the exhibition. In '100% Textiles' you follow the process from cotton to finished product. Admire the (roaring!) machines, touch textile samples, listen to stories and try out carding, spinning or weaving. In and around the workshop you see people spinning, weaving, natural dyeing and stitching. There are also temporary exhibitions.
