Ancient square with houses, Town Hall, beautiful monument, cafes. Didn't shake like the Grand Dance in Brussels, but it was also majestic and authentic. The Flemish style is not to be confused with anything. I felt like lunch, although it was more like dinner, with this beautiful view. So under mussels and wine, I enjoyed admiring this beauty for over an hour. And since it was All Saints' Day eve everyone - tourists and Aboriginals alike - stormed the shops, the square was virtually empty of people, which only added to the positives of interacting with the city.

The Grote Markt is the main central square (to be more precise, triangle) of Antwerp, located in close proximity to the historic Cathedral of Our Lady and the Scheldt River. As the beating heart of the medieval old town, anchored by the Renaissance-style Stadhuis (Town Hall) and guildhalls with flamboyant facades, it has been the focal point of the town's commercial and cultural activities since the 16th century. At the centre of this cobblestone square stands the Brabo Fountain, depicting a 'hand-throwing' (hand werpen in Dutch) scene which purportedly gave the city its name. With so much to see, you will not lack any instagrammable posts for your social media, and with the numerous cafes and restaurants around the square, you will not go thirsty or hungry too.

Absolutely a must visit when you visit Belgium city of Antwerpen. It is the city's landmark and since 1998 it has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is surrounded by beautiful historic houses and there are many wonderful cafes and restaurants.

Historic square with impressive well preserved architecture, town hall that's still in operation, wonderful old guild houses with golden statues atop, impressive statue in the centre of square. An atmospheric place that looks good and is fun to visit day and night. Not as busy as it would be if you plonked the exact same square down in another more touristy town, which only adds to the charm.

The Grote Markt is really super nice. He invites you to linger in one of the countless restaurants, cafes etc. Ea gives a lot to see and discover - even with toddler. Take a look at it. Worth it.
