Phenomenal mosaics, beautiful inside and out
Seriously, this place is pretty ridiculous. The mosaic work alone on the inside is worth the visit and there is so much more to it. It’s a pretty amazing structure considering it’s built on a swamp. The uneven floor all around is just a testament to the amazing architecture here. That it’s still in such amazing condition after so many centuries of the ground moving below it is a wonder. Even our local guide admitted that the Venetians are well aware that their city will someday just not be habitable anymore. This building is fantastic and no question why it is a centerpiece in a gorgeous city. Make sure to book in advance.

    Buy tickets online!
Nice church inside and outside. However, if you are not going to buy tickets online for €6 at their website, you will save €3, but you will spend a lot of time standing in line. Question is, whether or not such saving is worth it. As for me, I’ve paid €6 for a ticket with the 9:30 am time of entry. I didn’t choose any other options they were offering- just a church itself- and 20 minutes were enough to walk around, admire the masterpiece, light a candle and take a few pictures.

    Impressive beautiful church
Seems very hard to get online tickets for the church. Had to buy more expensive guided tickets from get a guide app to the church to beat the queue. The guide was good and well worth the money. She could explain many things to us. The church is very ornate and full of gold leaf. What was great was to go up to the outside terraces at the church. There are stunning views from the terraces. What was interesting was to find out that the facade of the church is made up of stuff that was looted from Constantinople.

    Stunning Architecture and decor
Visited during 2 day stay. Well worth it as it’s beautiful inside. Not a long tour. We got to the queue about 8:50am and were fairly near the front. The queue was a lot longer by 9am. Opens at 9:30am.

    With a guide
We opted for a guided tour which gets you to the front of the queue which can be considerable. We were all given earphones so there was no missing what the guide was saying. The guide was very knowledgeable and funny. The basilica is breathtaking and the view from the terrace is wonderful. Definitely a must when in Venice.

If it’s going to be a hot day, pay to skip the line
The weather forecast was good so we bought skip the line tickets. Thank goodness. Queuing for almost an hour in the midday sun is not recommended. What a basilica. It was simply stunning. The standard entry only gets you onto the ground floor ‘loop’. To see Pala D’Or and other sights cost extra. Ground floor only, you just get 30 mins but it’s worth it. Arrive early. We were there 15 mins ahead of our ticket time and were let in.

    Sunday Mass packed!
We were blessed to attend the 10am Sunday Mass here and even though in Italian we loved being in such a beautiful Catholic Basilica. The dedication of the early Faithful is still being rewarded today. We did the full tour too. Keep The Faith!

Our Absolute Best Collection of Art
Couldn't get enough of this place. The gold painting everywhere and every inch had to be taken in one step at a time. The outside was enough for me until we stepped inside. It's no wonder Venice has spent millions on saving this magnificent house of worship.

    Still breathtakingly beautiful
There is quite a long queue to enter the basilica but once inside the architecture and the mosaic work is worth the hassle. We booked a tour with skip the line tickets so we didn’t have to queue for too long. Definitely worth the extra € you have to pay for this. Once inside you could pay €7 to go to the top. The view is amazing. You see how beautiful Venice actually is and of course how crowded it gets. There are some historic pieces like the sculptures of the horses on top. Worth seeing the alter from the top.

excellent cathedral, worth the museum add-on
excellent cathedral with astonishing mosaic murals and ceilings. very crowded, and flow is regulated in 1 way. we paid extra for the add ons and they were worth it. especially the museum on the top floor which gets you even closer to the mosaic murals, and also gives you a nice view of the entire square. sadly there is some ugly scaffolding arranged in front of the building which blocks and ruins the view of the cathedral from the middle of the square.

  • Piazza San Marco Hotels
It is said that Napoleon called San Marco "the drawing room of Europe." And it is a breathtakingly beautiful place. But the square has long been a lure for massive numbers of pigeons, drawn by the massive numbers of tourists who readily feed them. While the tourists happily post for photos amid the flock, there are concerns that the birds' presence--and what they leave behind--will damage the centuries old architecture and art work.
