The ancient Flavian Amphitheater was built by the Flavian emperors in 70 C.E. as a gift to the Roman people. As the largest Roman theater ever built, it was designed to house over 50,000 people, and had played host to gladiator games, plays and even public executions. Our favourite place to visit in Rome
Our favourite place to visit in Rome. We actually visited twice during our stay. Very busy even mid week in January. Amazing place. Highly recommended. We used the hop on hop off bus for travel to and from our hotel.

    Remarkable experience
Everyone who is able to should make it a point to visit the Colosseum! To say the Colosseum is historically significant would be a ridiculous understatement. We’ve all heard about it, read about it, been lectured on it, maybe watched a documentary about Ancient Rome, but to go and walk in the footsteps of the extraordinary people who built this wonder and created a thriving civilization makes you appreciate it on a different level. There is so much to see and learn by visiting; from the social constructs and hierarchies of Roman society to the many innovations and building techniques that are still being utilized today! It was an incredible experience that I will never forget.

Buy online ticket beforehand and bring your ID
Even though there are only timed tickets next time I would take the first time in the morning. It fills up and make it difficult to see the exhibition on the first floor. As a lot is outside rainy weather might not be the ideal time to visit. As the ticket includes several fora bring a lot of time and stamina. And your ID! as you need it to enter with your online ticket. Yes, you want to buy that before hand.

    " The Roman Coliseum"
The Colosseum is magnificent, this was the largest amphitheater of the Roman Empire. Gladiator combats, animal fights, grandiose festivals and the death of Christians took place there. It is an impressive place, the entrance costs €20, but if you go on the first Sunday of the month, you enter for free, after standing in a long line, where you have to wait more than two hours. It's worth it, you will enjoy it!!

    Full Experience Attico.Pren.Intero
This ticket cost us €24 each You have access to * Levels 2 & 3 - the BEST views of the Colusseum and up to Palatine Hill * Level 1 - incl. the Full Access only arena floor Buy your ticket in advance from the official Coop Culture site and you will be able to head straight to the entrance area, massively reducing your wait time. We joined the queue at 11:05 and were inside within 10mins. Arrive early (our ticket was for an 11:15 entrance) Head to the brown lift, which will get you up to level 3… This is truly an amazing experience! From entering the covered tunnel to the best views in the Colusseum…. You will not be disappointed! Then get the lift down and head to the Arena floor… only available to Full Access ticket holders. Here you’ll experience the enormity of the arena and get great views of the underground maze. Head back up to level 2 for the exhibition. This gets a bit more crowded because everyone has access, but well worth the visit and it provides great insights. Finally, back to level 1 and towards the exit, but take time to stop off at each of the viewing platforms… some great photo opportunities along the way! We originally considered an underground tour, but are pleased that we opted for the Full Access Attico ticket instead!

    Wonderful place!
I love being at the Coliseum, I just love it! I was there twice and I will definitely be back. I felt a bit like I was in the gladiator movie haha Be careful, there are a lot of people there, which makes walking and enjoying it a little difficult, but it's worth it. Don't forget to visit this incredible place.

    Epic history and site!
I visited the Colosseum on Jan. 29th as part of a group guided tour I was taking. From the moment we walked up to the Colosseum it was awe inspiring and the history shared by my guide was incredible. We were able to go inside and walk around while taking in the extraordinary history our guide was sharing with us. I learned a lot and much of it surprised me. It was very crowded as it’s one of the top sites in Rome. One big downside was the bookstore, there are two inside and both closed early so we couldn’t get a souvenir. The one downstairs was actually open but when I walked in the attendant yelled at me that they were closed and forced me out. The store wasn’t closed and she was just on her phone talking and didn’t want to serve the customers (I wasn’t the only one she turned away). It was the most rude experience I had in my week long visit all over Italy and shame on her for behaving in such a way. Other than that I enjoyed my visit to the Colosseum and would recommend a visit. Just go early morning to avoid the larger crowds.

    Colessuem
Tourist advice before you go: buy Yr tickets online from the official site, £15euros each roughly. This gets you entry to Colessuem and Palentine Hill/roman forum. The line is huge for Colessuem but moves very very quick, they only let u in 10mins before Yr ticket slot. Any earlier u get sent away, even by afew minutes. We then went to Palentine Hill after, just up the slope. That was lovely to walk around & sit back and good spots to see the Colessuem and take a sit down, as lots of walking. The Colessuem is huge and worth a walk around to take in all the history. We didn't do a tour, so can't comment on that.

    Breathtaking
Exceeded my expectations, the sense of history was overwhelming! As it was low season, not too crowded. Hard to sum up in words but you simply cannot go to Rome without visiting here! We found going to the ‘Welcome to Rome’ 3D visual show in the city a day earlier gave us a real sense of how it would have looked when complete and what happened to the structure over the years (also the forum etc). One for everyone’s bucket list.

    Wonderful Must Visit Attraction!
Must visit attraction in Rome however, if you are planning on visiting we suggest you get there before 9am like we did, it gets extremely busy. We got there at 8.30am and the lines very not very long, plenty of time and space to visit comfortably in February, we got lucky with the weather it was perfect but soon as we were leaving the lines were getting long and it was chaotic at best. We pre-booked our tickets online and the process was pretty quick early in the morning but order seemed to be getting lost from what we could see when leaving. So get there nice and early for a much better visit.
