    A 'must do' in Berlin
An absolute must do, if you are in Berlin, especially if you love history. I know a little about about the events surrounding the Second World War and the rise of the National Socialist Party, but there was so much here I had no idea about and it gave great context to the reasons why things happened as they did and the full scale of what transpired. There is lots of reading required but also has lots of photos to go with it, all in all giving an excellent insight into a time not too long ago. I expected to be here about 30-40 mins, but we were here a good 90-120 mins, so a great way to spend some time whilst also learning some important history.

Give the exhibits time - do the reading.
I gave my 13 year old daughter, the option of TOT or an art museum, and to my surprise she chose TOT. I had already been several years ago but it was worth revisiting. It’s a sobering topic for sure, and there is a lot of reading to do, but if one puts in the time the exhibits are very informative and rewarding. The Internet has made us all a bit, lazy and impatient. So perhaps some more videos and more interactive displays would make everything more engaging. But I would not like anything dumbed down. I am currently writing a book about Georg Elser. The TOT exhibits, facilities, and Publications are all very helpful to me. Congratulations to everyone involved in TOT. It is an absolutely outstanding and invaluable contribution to the understanding of a terrible time in history.

    Well worth a visit!
Definitely worth a visit. The museum is free. A car tour takes you into the history and story about the war, the Nazis and the SS. What makes it special is that the site of the museum was also the site of the SS headquarters. A lot of photos are used, which give a good idea of the situation at the time.

    Excellent museum!
This was an excellent museum, probably the best one we visited during our stay in Berlin. Not only is it free to visit but the information provided about the history of Berlin and the war but also the wall. If you can, visit this museum, you will learn a lot from the displays.

    Must see
Well done. An immersive timeline of what transpired leading up to WW2 and the rise of the Nazi regime. It continues through the aftermath and Nazi hunt after the fall of Hitler and his SS army. Incredibly informative, moving and somber. A must see.

    A brilliant, and free, exhibition
We chanced on this amazing exhibition and we're so glad we did. Hundreds of photographs and clear explanations explore Hitler's rise to power and his treatment of the Jews. The final part of the exhibition shows how few of the SS were ever caught and punished; how German society preferred to look forward and how former SS members succeeded in simply taking up positions of authority in modern Germany. It was a sobering exhibition but so informative and interesting.

Free and dense with information. Audioguide didn't work well on my phone.
The museum is free. It is well organized and has a lot of information. It is not very interactive and the topic is of course very bleak so I found it a rather draining museum but it's definitely worth a visit. My complain is with the audioguide. It was not obvious you could get one that wasn't on your own phone so I tried to use my phone (I later saw other people with audioguides so they clearly are available but I didn't see this until I was 3/4 of the way through.) It's hard to listen to without headphone, which I didn't bring because I didn't know I needed them. The audio would regularly freeze, though that might have been my phone despite it not having issues with any other activities online in Berlin. The audio would freeze if the screen was off which ment I had to keep touching the screen while awkwardly holding the phone up to my ear. I gave up on the audioguide a third of the way through. The written information is enough.

Emotionally moving but you can get fatigue from so much heavy information
Start with the free preview/movie. Talk with one of the employees at the front desk, who will guide you to a room to watch it. After that, you start the journey. The pictures help the story so much that I found myself constantly "Googling" more information about minor characters who had their lives altered by what happened in the 1930s-1940s. You may need a break so there's plenty of seating inside. After, there's more information outside. Then you keep walking and wrap around the path to stare face-to-face with the Berlin Wall. 4 stars instead of 5 because the mental fatigue is real. There is no way anyone read and absorbed every single piece even if you gave them 2 full hours. It was almost like a book so some names pop up again a bit later and you may have forgotten some things they did as you slog your way through the museum. Maybe some interactive portions could help jolt patrons.

    Must see. Multiple visits advised!
Extremely interesting and thought provoking history exhibit of Berlin/Germany from the rise of Hitler to the end of the war and beyond. Visited twice in order to avoid information overload (and still failed), but since it's free that's not an issue! The long section of the Berlin Wall adds to the experience. I'd have this as a must see in Berlin.

    Impressive - depressing - unbelievable
What are people capable of? This - free - exhibition gets under your skin. Lots of impressive photos and explanations. The audio guide, which you can also download to your cell phone, provides additional explanations and original sound recordings. The order with the audio guide is a bit confusing. Be sure to plan enough time!

  • Neues Museum Hotels
The opening of the Neues Museum marked a key chapter in the history of 19th-century art, museum design, and technology. Designed by Friedrich August Stüler and built from 1843 to 1855, the building suffered severe damage during World War II, after which it was left as an abandoned bombsite. Emergency measures to secure the structure were only taken in the 1980s. Painstaking restoration work got under way in 2003 and was undertaken by the offices of the British architect David Chipperfield. The museum reopened its doors to the public in 2009 and combines geographically and thematically related exhibits pooled together from three separate collections at the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin: the collection of Egyptian art from the Ägyptisches Museum und Papyrussammlung, of prehistoric objects from the Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte, and of classical antiquities from the Antikensammlung.
