This is a great day out for the whole family. You can easily spend more than three hours looking round the exhibits and visiting the cafe. The museum entry is free, but you need to pay for the car park (£7.50 for three hours, or less if you’re planning a shorter visit). The main exhibits of the museum are transport. There are all types and there is a large focus on historic Glasgow public transport: trams of different eras, busses, trolley busses, underground train carriages of different eras. There are various rail locomotives, the largest being one from South Africa. There is a large exhibit of cars, from early 1900s up to a Tesla S. For the motor cycle enthusiast there is a large stock of bikes of all ages. Shipping is also covered due to the proximity to the Glasgow docks and shipbuilding era. Outside is a tall ship which you can explore. It’s nice that you can visit on board most of the trams, busses, and train carriages as it gives you a feeling of a previous lifestyle. I was a little disappointed that the cars are exhibited on a ramp which goes up the wall, as it would have been nicer to have a closer inspection of the cars, but I guess space is lacking. So, you need good eyesight to see the cars. One of the nicest parts is a replica street from the past where you can find a pub, saddler, cinema, music record shop, cobbler, and a few more. It gives great insight to Glasgow living. I was pleased to see an old ticket from the Apollo theatre for the same concert as I attended in 1978! The cafe restaurant is not too big ( there is a smaller coffee bar upstairs but only with cakes and biscuits) and fills up quickly at lunchtime. The restaurant is actually quite pricey, but the quality is good. The toasted sandwiches came on bloomer slices, and were accompanied by a nice fresh salad. The cakes we had were very moist and fresh. The kids chicken nuggets and chips were a hit with the kids, but perhaps too much on the plate as they couldn’t finish - maybe they should reduce the quantity and the price?? Overall we all left very happy and look forward to our next visit.

The museum was easy to find by car. We went on a Sunday when the traffic through Glasgow was less busy. The museum is extremely interesting, with thousands of exhibits to see. It pays to keep wandering around as there are exhibits at all sorts of heights and corners. We had lunch in the cafe which was pleasant but, and this is wonderful, there are many spots inside [and outside] the museum where you can eat your own packed lunch for free. Entry is free but the car parking charges are a little steep which evens it out. However, the meters don't take cards, only cash, so if you don't have the parking app used there, it's a problem scrambling around for [at least] £5 of change. £5 for 2 hours; £7.50 for three hours etc.

By Train: The nearest train station is Partick, which is about a 15-minute walk from the museum. You can take a train from Glasgow Central or Queen Street. By Bus: Bus services like the 100 Glasgow Citybus can take you directly to the Riverside Museum. Railcard: Be sure to use the code “RC777E” on Trainpal to enjoy a 20% discount when traveling with a railcard.

Great museum with plenty to see. Loads of variety, cars, trains and even a boat. The main museum is free to enter, just a donation please, but the boat is payable separately. It can be a bit cramped and some of the vehicles are difficult to see, especially those 'in the air' ! On the day we visited there was a local company displaying their trucks outside which was a nice touch. Inside the museum there was a craft type market which had some good stalls, however the layout meant you could not see some of the displays properly, particularly the street scenes. There is a large Carpark which is payable, several of us where having difficulty getting through online so persevere. Definitely worth a visit.

We had a great experience on a rainy afternoon at this museum. Admission was free. Our tour guide, Duncan, is a civil engineer and was very informative. Was fun to go through over a century of mechanical history related to travel. We saw ships, cars, bicycles, trolleys, buses, and baby prams. So many other things! Duncan was an imaginative translator of all of these historical items, being able to present them from their past, and relate to similarities in our present. We highly recommend this trip through time.

We've visited many times and always enjoy the Riverside Museum. However, today was the first time we have experienced a tour with one of the guides and I can't recommend it highly enough. Our tour guide, Michael, was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and brought the museum history to life for us. In our party, we had 4 home educated teenagers and 2 adults. When I arrived home, one of my sons (who struggles to pay attention), said he really enjoyed the tour and reminded me that I should leave a positive review here. I was taken aback :) So thank you very much Michael. We really appreciate the time you spent with our family. It was a fabulous learning experience for my children.

A very fun museum to do as a family. At the base it is a museum on transport (buses, trams, trains, carriages, metro, taxi etc) but you will find plenty of old unusual objects! It's pretty big so even with people it's not awkward. Admission is free, it's great. We did not visit the outer boat. Attention parking seemed to pay, it was not very clear as there is no barrier or others checking access. What to do if you pass through Glasgow!

This museum is part of the Riverside Museum and is right next door. Unlike the Riverside Museum, a visit to the Windjammer is subject to a fee. On the ship itself you can see various rooms with appropriate furniture, such as the kitchen, dining room or even the sleeping areas and cabins of sailors and captains. The staff was very nice and friendly as well as helpful. Credit card payment is also possible. Disabled persons also receive a discount on presentation of appropriate proof. Children also have reduced admission. A visit to the Riverside Museum should be included. A visit is definitely worthwhile. Highly recommended!

Great museum with lots to see and loads of interactive displays. Some things are best seen from upstairs but we didn't mind that at all. Food in cafe was a wee bit expensive but it was delicious and worth the money, however if your on a budget there's plenty of areas for you to eat a pack lunch. The parking was difficult to sort out but overall great day worth the drive out.

My partner and I recently came here for a little day date. We really enjoyed come here and seeing all the old vehicles and learning about Scotlands rich history in transport. For my partner this was a completely new experience for her as she is from the U.S so this was extremely interesting for her. Also we had fun playing dress up here we had such a laugh this being free feels like you are ribbing the place by not playing an entry fee. I definitely will return
