    Visited on a rainy day
On arrival you’re given headphones and an audio guide. The self guided tour takes you around the state apartments and then out to the abbey ruins in the garden. The commentary is good but fairly brief and it would have been nice to get a bit more information in each room as an option. You can always ask the staff though. The abbey is currently undergoing repairs and is largely scaffolded out so there’s not a great deal to see. Interesting displays about Mary Queen of Scots and Bonnie Prince Charlie.

    A great experience
This palace is absolutely beautiful, and the experience is enhanced with the free audioguide - I learned so much about the history of the palace and its famous residents as I wandered the rooms. The monastery ruins and the gardens are also very beautiful to explore. Be sure to book in advance so you don't miss out.

    Very interesting
The Palace of Holyroodhouse was a very interesting place to visit. The free audio guide was excellent and in many of the rooms gives the option of an overview or a more in depth description. We found the overview of each quite sufficient and provided lots of information on the palace together with history of the Scottish Royal family. In some rooms there were staff on hand to answer any questions and were very helpful. The palace is beautiful and full of wonderful artworks, furniture and tapestries. Note that photography is not permitted within the palace itself but is allowed outside and around the lovely gardens.

Stunning a must for Royal fans
Stunning palace at the end of the Royal Mile in the most amazing surroundings with Arthur’s Seat as the backdrop. Lots of beautiful art and decor to take in. Not too busy and the audio guide very helpful as they are in all royal residences etc

    Great Royal Palace
Magnificent place, full of history and significance. At first I wasn't planning in going, yet I am glad I did as the internals and externals are beautiful. There are also signs of the old abbey, which is very fascinating. The palace is placed in from of Arthur's seat, which makes the entire area one of a kind.

    Small Palace and Abbey Ruins
I preferred this palace to Edinburgh Castle, if I could only visit one of the two I would go for this one. There were far fewer visitors so the palace feels uncrowded and gives a more pleasant experience. There are not masses of rooms to see inside, and the gardens are well kept but small. The grounds have great views to Arthur's Seat. Cafe is very good, prices ok. The main disappointment was not being allowed to take photos inside the palace, There were some interesting and beautiful interiors but they are quickly forgotten if you can't take a photo! What really made the trip for me was the abbey ruins. They are beautiful and compliment the much more recent palace in terms of age and building style.

    Grand Palace
Undoubtedly a great Palace that continues to function as such. For this reason they don’t let you take pictures inside and for a great photography fan it is a great disappointment. No problems outside. The Abbey is in renovations and its gardens are spectacular. It's worth it anyway.

    Not to be missed
Audio guide compulsory! The best I've ever heard. Very nice palace, well maintained, still used by the royal family for ceremonies. The visit lasts about two hours, and is unmissable.

    Beautiful Castle
This was the first place we went to see while visiting Edinburgh. We arrived by city bus. I did not purchase tickets to enter but you can still get a good view of the outside if you walk the trail that goes all around. There’s a parking lot next to the castle. Arthur’s seat is right up the mountain.

    CAFE AND SHOP
We have done the Palace tour a couple of times in the past but this visit was for elevenses in the cafe and to buy some Christmas presents in the shop. The cafe food choices are excellent and there were beautiful black and white photos of Queen Elizabeth on the walls which held our attention as we ate. In the shop, young Jack, a university student, was so helpful and deserves a special mention.
