    Great museum for all ages
Wonderful museum with plenty for all age groups. The display about The Story of Newcastle from Roman times to the present was really interesting, full of stories and exhibits. I also liked the military display which was excellent with stories from various solders, information about mascots and interactives for children. The exhibition about the Tyne also really good. I had lunch in the café, a lovely jacket potato with a wonderful fresh salad with lots of different vegetables not just Lettice and tomato and a nice cup of steaming hot tea. Free admission

    Great
Great as always. I hadnt visited in about 6 years so parts were different. Spent ages in the history of Newcastle section. My only issue was there was no indication of what some of the artifacts were, which was a shame. Coffee and cake in the cafe was pleasant. It was a quiet midweek afternoon so crowds weren't an issue.

A Fantastic Visit to the Discovery Museum in Newcastle
I had a wonderful time at the Discovery Museum, exploring the fascinating exhibits and learning about the history and science of the region. The museum is free to enter and has something for everyone, from the impressive Turbinia ship to the interactive displays of electricity, telegraphy, and engineering. I especially enjoyed the models of bridges, windmills, and offshore platforms, which showed the creativity and innovation of the local people. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the cafe was cozy and affordable. I highly recommend this museum to anyone visiting Newcastle or looking for a fun and educational day out.

    A Free Atraction
Whilst on a recent stay in the city we decided to visit this museum and was very pleasantly surprised, we ended up staying much longer than we had anticipated. The 20th century element of Newcastle Story was particularly interesting because it brought back so many memories from our youth (clothes, TV and music etc). There were plenty of young children about who seemed to be having a ball with the inter-active elements and best of all its a free attraction.

Excellent entertainment for young and old
Fascinating museum with history of Newcastle, star attraction to me was Turbinia, pity you could not get a closer look but I guess the H and S would be a nightmare. Judging by the children’s excitement they enjoyed it too, a great place to entertain youngsters for the day. Staff are excellent, explaining where they can, unfortunately for me the resident expert on Turnbinia was not there today but a friendly guide gave the the email address of the guide who could answer my questions, impressed! Cafe is excellent, spotlessly clean and very good staff who ensure you get what you want. The fruit scones were so fresh I struggled to get the jam and real clotted cream onto them without them breaking up. Jam first then cream if you put cream on first the jam just slides off never understood the argument about which is first. Decent coffee too. Recommended. Don’t forget to give a donation on the way out, they deserve it

Excellent museum in Newcastle city centre
It is an excellent museum. We visited it with children a couple of times recently and will revisit it in the future. It has excellent facilities and many exhibitions. We especially liked the ground-floor exhibition about the history of Newcastle and the top-floor technological maze. The staff and supporters did a great job. There are plenty of parking options within a short working distance.

    Great family Museum, poor cafe
We had a fun family visit with our 5 year old Grandson. We all enjoyed it, great interactive things, although a few of them do require some maintenance, and lots of interesting exhibits, especially the Turbinia! Didn’t have time today to see everything, but we definitely want to come back. However we won’t be visiting cafe next time. £2.90 for a mug of tea, and our sandwiches which were £5.50 had very minimal fillings (a small sprinkling of grated cheese and a few wafer thin slices of tomatoes (and the bread was dry)!! 👎

    People and their accomplishments
Great museum packed with interesting content about Newcastle, its industry and its people. Not just the stars like the Stevensons but also the ordinary folk of and in various backgrounds. My find there was the Turbinia! In a previous life I was a steam turbine engineer so for me that was a real treat to walk through the door and bump into that. And, what followed on from that did not disappoint. The staff were excellent. Special mention for Neville. The cafe was clean, tidy and reasonably priced. A nice selection of sandwiches, pastries, coffee, tea and soft drinks. The facilities were clean.

    Great day out for kids
We were really impressed with our visit on a rainy weekend day. It’s wasn’t too busy, though by no means quiet, and there was plenty of space and opportunity for our toddler to run around. He really enjoyed the interactive cat flap parts of one of the exhibitions and the magnets section of the Science Maze. The soft play area in that section was very small and simple, but fine for a quick jump around stop along the way. The coffee in the cafe was really good too. Definitely worth a visit, and it’s free!

    Family fun for all.
The best free attraction around. We have a 11yo 9yo and a 2 yo and they have had so much to do. The museum had so much we had no idea about and things we do remember but our kids called us old. I would recommend everyone who’s got little people and who are in Newcastle to visit this museum and just have some time as a family and enjoy everything Newcastle has to offer.
