- WorldTravellerSoonCanada375 contributionsAmazing religious buildings and gardenThe basilica can be accessed by metro line 3. There is no entrance fee. There are a few cathedrals other than the main basilica. The garden is amazing and well kept. Attached to the garden, there is a plaza selling religius ornaments, snack and souvenirs.Visited October 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten October 4, 2023
- md115Potomac, Maryland453 contributionsFascinating visitGiven the importance of the Virgin of Gaudalupe, this is an important site, even if you're not religious, have different beliefs. Admission is free. The shroud is in the first church as you enter the compound. You ride on a conveyer belt to view. As elsewhere in the city, people are very polite. No shoving etc. You can ride more than once if first view not enough. There are two-three other chapels, some of which require climbing a lot of steps. There is also a reasonably priced gift store on site. Overall, a wonderful visit. Total time spent: 1 hour (visited all the chapels).Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 14, 2023
- patricia817La Jolla, California35 contributionsDon’t Miss the Basilica of the Virgin of GuadalupeIncredible sight to see. This is a very important pilgrimage destination which changed the course of history in Mexico. Loved the Mass at the Basilica, which is pretty much every hour, climbing the hill at Tepeyac and the chapels. Most importantly I’ve always wanted to see the Tilma. The Blessed Mother imprinted the iconic image of herself on Juan Diego’s tilma in 1531 - and it miraculously still exists today. So happy to have seen it and all the sights here. What a great sight to see in Mexico City. They do not hand out maps- so take a photo of the tourist map in the glass case as you enter so you can find your way around!Visited November 2023Traveled soloWritten December 3, 2023
- Aunt S2 contributionsImpressive Basilica with beautiful views! This place is so impressive. We got there at 730 am and was already a crowd building but we were able to walk about and see most before it got so crowded.. Make sure you take the time to walk to the top of the hill to the smaller church. It is a beautiful view and has great prices on souvenirs. Its a climb but worth it. Just take your time. The grounds are beautifully manicured. Everyone was so friendly. So glad we visited. (the Guadalupe "cloth" is inside below and behind the alter where Priests stand. There is a moving sidewalk so you can see it. The story behind it is a little whimiscal but "to each his own" beliefs. It is very pretty though.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten February 5, 2024
- Juja80301144 contributionsSacred site worth visitingI was raised Catholic but no longer practice. Still you needn't be religious to find that this site is worth the trip and an hour or two of your time. It's really a huge complex. The new basilica houses the image of the virgin, which is located behind the altar. Visit all of the churches/chapels to get the complete picture and to enjoy the views of the city.Visited February 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 17, 2024
- RBB32015New Jersey41 contributionsBeautiful and Uplifting ExperienceWe were nine family members, visiting the Basilica, including young children, teens and grandparents. We all loved it. Parking was easy in the garage. As soon as we arrived Mass was being celebrated so we took the opportunity to participate (Mass is celebrated every half hour). It was so very moving to celebrate Mass in front of the image of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Once Mass ended we went and rode the moving platform underneath the image that allows one to see the image closer. We then spent too much time in the gift shop that’s in the lower rear of the Basilica. The shop is very crowed. You are better off going to one of the other official stores located on the grounds of the Basilica because there will be less crowded. Finally we, without the grandparents, climbed to the top of the hill where one of the original churches that housed the image of Our Lady is located. The view was beautiful as are the gardens and statues on the way up and down. Don’t miss them! Seeing Our Lady of Guadalupe in person is a beautiful, moving and uplifting experience.Visited April 2024Traveled with familyWritten April 2, 2024
- TOURtheWORLDMexPalUnited States3,601 contributionsA must stop for any and all Christians. It is a pilgrimage for Catholics and a testimony for the unbelievers. You will see the evidence of the actual miracle,… for the faithful. For skeptics, may be it is time to reconsider and explore the history and revisit the knowledge. Read about the miracle and the importance of this basilica, before your visit especially if you are not accompanied by a reputable tour guide.Visited April 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten April 25, 2024

- mjdztColdfoot, Alaska447 contributionsA Spiritual Uplifting Place Surounded by History...This is a special Basilica demonstrating the history of the conversion of native American people to the Christian Faith. There are hundreds of years of religous art and architecture here. This is a top 5 pilgramige site for Catholics. Like all Chistian Churches it is open to all and free of charge. It is best to begin at the La Villa Subway station for a nice view of the enterance. The day long journey and walking includes the Basilica, the Blessing Station, hourly services, the Baptistry, 6 large historic Chapels, a Convent, the hill climb to the spring, 1000's religous paintings and bronzes, two museums, the fountains procession, the garden, the story telling clock tower and the miracle reveal. The outwall has the Jesus's stations of the cross like Jerusalem in the Holyland.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 4, 2024
- Amy DMission, Texas1,052 contributionsHistorical Breathtaking Catholic CrowdedGreat! Peaceful! Magestic! And very congested with tourists! We came here on an Uber ride, no need for a tour guide. Don’t forget, this is a church that does hold regular mass. It still requires visitors to practice respect toward the Catholic faith. This is a large property with two churches and the hill of Tepeyac. Make sure to take your time and stop and visit everything. Don’t feel intimidated with the stairs leading to El Cerro de Tepeyac, where Juan Diego saw the virgin mother. Once you get there, they have a souvenir section, a cemetery, which I didn’t get to see due to it being closed. You will also visit a small chapel. The chapel is where Virgin Mary tilma used to be. You’ll find a souvenir shop and some street food vendors. From there, you can also take in a spectacular view of the city. Definitely well worth the short 15 minutes of steps up. The historic old chapel is also worth seeing, as it is gradually sinking. Its architecture is breathtaking.Visited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 15, 2024
