- Kill Devil HillsWith water, water everywhere, visitors to Kill Devil HIlls indulge in fishing and crabbing, quiet kayaking, robust surfing or parasailing, peaceful seaside cycling and that favorite, toes-in-the-sand enjoyment of the beach. This barrier island township is the center of the Northern beach and home to about 7,000 year-round residents. Summer welcomes visitors anxious to share the natural landscapes and village-like appeal. Savor long stretches of Atlantic views and silky sands. If you’re a history buff, visit area lighthouses and the National Memorial honoring Wilbur and Orville Wright, who accomplished the first controlled powered flight in 1903. In nearby Kitty Hawk, Seascape Golf Links challenge players with changing elevations and coastal landscapes. A popular day trip just 17 miles to the southwest, the Fort Raleigh National Historic Site, Elizabeth Gardens and live performances of “The Lost Colony” combine to preserve and present the background of Native American culture and Sir Walter Raleigh’s colonization efforts in the late 1500’s.Read more
- Kitty HawkOn the Outer Banks of North Carolina and part of a string of barrier islands, Kitty Hawk is steeped in history and known for its natural beauty. In each island town, travelers will find fine art, dining and history coupled with great beaches and adventure. Water hideaways provide refuge for wildlife. - CorollaYou won’t find superstores or theme parks in Corolla. What you will find is a slow-paced vacation destination with vast, isolated stretches of beach. Corolla is the perfect place to gear down, relax and forget about your hurried life back home. While quiet dinners and strolls on the beach are mainstays of Corolla’s lifestyle, other more action-oriented recreation options include kayak tours, Jet Ski rentals, deep-sea fishing charters, and go-karting. No visit to Corolla is complete without climbing the Currituck Beach Lighthouse, a 158-foot high structure built in 1875 that still flashes at 20-second intervals to warn ships hugging the chain of barrier islands. Next on the must see list is the Whalehead Club, a 21,000-square-foot Art Nouveau home that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A truly unique experience in Corolla is taking a tour of the Spanish Mustang Reserve, where you can see wild Spanish Mustang horses grazing in their natural habitat. Horse lovers will also enjoy the Corolla Wild Horse Museum located within the restored schoolhouse of Corolla Village. Kids have an opportunity to paint their own wild Colonial Spanish Mustang. For some great family fun, play the Grass Course, a miniature golf course on all natural grass.Read more
- Outer BanksThe Outer Banks of North Carolina is a 100-mile stretch of barrier islands dotted with pristine beaches, quaint towns and historic sites. If you love swimming, kayaking, or surfing, be sure to visit the Cape Hatteras National Seashore. To really experience local culture, explore each coastal village and sample as much food as you can along the way. (Pro tip: Try the catch of the day.) If you’re looking for a history lesson, check out Roanoke Island or the Wright Brothers National Memorial. And of course, no day is complete without watching the sunset from Jockey’s Ridge.Read more

- jhodge888489Moyock, North Carolina1 contributionGreat for our night away. We stayed many years ago for our honeymoon(16) and it was still just as nice but renovations were super nice. Delicious breakfast and easy beach access.More Reviews of Surf Side Hotel BeachfrontWelcome back, and thank you for choosing to stay with us again after 16 years! We're thrilled to hear that you still found Surf Side just as wonderful and that you enjoyed the renovations. It’s always special to host returning guests, especially those with such great memories here. We’re glad you loved the breakfast and beach access, and we hope to see you again for many more getaways!Written March 18, 2025This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited March 2025Written March 11, 2025
- Christine C1 contributionThe property is situated right next to the beach, so that was great! If you go to the Outer Banks be prepared to climb stairs as all units are on stilts, understandably! The Wright Brothers museum is a must, it’s in Kill Devil Hills, not Kitty Hawk! Also, nice rides up to Corolla, the uppermost part (visit to Whalebone Museum was interesting!) or south to Cape Hatteras. This lighthouse is being restored and will reopen spring ‘26, but gift shop is open! Built-up area, but still has that beach town vibe! We had a couple of great beach days with no crowds!More Reviews of Dunes South BeachfrontThank you, Christine, for your fantastic review! We're so pleased you enjoyed your stay, the beachside location, and the surrounding area. It's wonderful to hear that you had a few peaceful beach days and explored some local attractions. We hope to welcome you back for another great visit in the future!Written November 13, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2024Written November 10, 2024
- Laura B1 contributionMore Reviews of Islander Motel BeachfrontSearch no further..this is a most stay when visiting OBX. The absolute closest to the beach, comfy bed, clean room and grounds. The pool area has chairs with cushions to lounge and rest after a day at the beach. Kerry was so kind in calling me the day before to let me know my room would be available earlier for check-in. I will definitely be returning and look forward to my next visit to The Islander!!!Visited October 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 27, 2024
- Cebu1Hilliard, Ohio156 contributionsMore Reviews of Holiday Inn Express Nags Head Oceanfront, an IHG Hotel BeachfrontWe stayed here for 4 nights on our first trip to Outer Banks and it was a great location. Our first impressions were soured by Deborah at the front desk who didn’t give us the great welcome feeling, but we didn’t let that deter our fun! It is right on the beach and has it’s own beach access from the parking lot. Bring all your own beach accessories and since the access is right off the parking lot, you can store chairs and such in the car and grab them on the way out to the beach. There are also showers right off the beach, at the end of the building, where you can shower or wash sand off your feet. The parking lot is partially covered. There were plenty of parking spaces available during out stay. We had a king room on the 4th floor (5 floors total), with an ocean view, which we highly recommend! There was a little balcony with 2 chairs and a table that you could sit out on and enjoy the sound of the waves! As you walk in the room, across from the bathroom was a whole wall of cabinets that included the closet. There was a microwave, Keurig coffee maker, and a fridge that had a separate freezer unit. Plenty of cabinet space to store snacks you might have for the beach! There were also 2 larger drawers that you could use for your clothes and a shelf under the bedside tables. It was very quiet in the room. The bed and pillows were very comfy! This room also had a couch and coffee table in front of it that pulled up to be at desk height. The bathroom had a great shower with the glass doors and a little ledge along the end wall that you could use to put your foot on for shaving or washing. They had the Dove hair products and body wash which are secured to the walls, which I am in favor of – good choice of brand! We opted out of having housekeeping service each day by putting out a door tag and were able to grab fresh towels when we needed them. There was also extra trash bags in the trash cans so we could take that out if needed. Breakfast was very on brand for HIE with the pancake machine, cinnamon rolls, 4 hot options (that changed daily), fruit, yogurt, cereal, breads, juice and coffee. All food was hot and fresh. The dining area was very clean and could get busy. The breakfast area and pool were located on the 2nd floor. The indoor pool was quite small (no hot tub) and we didn’t use it. A perk we had not read about before was free laundry facilities. There was a washer and dryer located on the 3rd floor. You needed to supply your own detergent but they did have it for sale in the lobby. We did not use them but they did look very clean. The location was great and very central to things from Bodie Island to Kitty Hawk. And Duck, Corolla, and Hatteras were just a little farther out in each direction. There were some very good restaurants close to this location as well, namely, Henry’s, The Dunes, and Miller’s Waterfront. This was a perfect location since it was just the two of us and we were interested in exploring what Outer Banks had to offer.Visited September 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten October 16, 2024
- Charles B2 contributionsMore Reviews of Comfort Inn South Oceanfront BeachfrontThe hotel management upgraded us to ocean front views, which were spectacular. We happened to be there during a surfing competition, which added some excitement. The staff was friendly and accomodating. The hotel is right on the beach with terrific views of the Atlantic and Jennette's Pier. Our rooms were clean, no bugs. The location is great, the rooms are reasonably priced, however it is an older building and lacks any sound deadening material.Visited September 2024Traveled with familyWritten September 23, 2024
- kaykay9 contributionsMore Reviews of Dolphin Oceanfront Motel BeachfrontNot going to lie I was pretty worried when we pulled in. The outside looks a bit depressing. The outdoor carpet that is in front of all the rooms really needs cleaned or replaced. And the entire front needs a good power washing. Gives a really bad first impression. Parking is super tight. The room itself was great. Big and you cannot beat the ocean view out your sliding door. It was clean but full of flies. Odd that they don't try to get the flies out before you check in. Check in was easy and pleasant. They really need new towels/linens. The towels are so old and stained and not any softness left to them. Pillows were hard as rocks. Beds are okay. TV is huge but who goes to the beach to watch tv? The money would have been better spent on towels and linens. We loved being so close to the ocean. FYI for people with motility issues; this area does not groom their beach. So walking back and forth to the ocean is no easy feat. The sand is deep, loose and full of trash. Which is sad. We had to go ask for new towels as no one ever brought any even though we left the old ones by the door as they told us to do. Not a bad stay by any means but I probably won't book this againVisited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten September 2, 2024
- Shellie M1 contributionMore Reviews of Colonial Inn BeachfrontFriendly staff, clean rooms, and very close to the beach. It is an older hotel but well kept. I have no intention on sitting in a room while at the beach anyways. The pool was nice as well but I did not get in it, I prefer the beach. Very convenient location and close to restaurants and shops. Nags Head Pier is a very short distance from the hotel.Visited August 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten August 12, 2024
- Kimberly LSaint Clairsville, Ohio56 contributionsMore Reviews of Blue Heron Motel BeachfrontThe staff and location was awesome!!!! We were given the honeymoon sweet at a discount and the staff was excellent and more than accommodating. We had a gorgeous private beach, private access, and a small kitchenette. We truly loved our stay and would stay again. Krishna was the nicest and was always checking on us and seeing if we were good!Visited July 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 3, 2024
- les r5 contributionsOlder property but being updated...oddly almost to look like 1985, but clean and great location. Ocean is just over a sand dune on the property and the beach is never crowded there. The rebuilt pool is a nice option to cool off after the beach or for a restful afternoon. About 8 of the units are right at poolside. Pleasant bedrooms where you can fall asleep listening to the wave crash. Checkin and out super easy. Lots of restaurants stores, outlet strip very close.More Reviews of The Windjammer BeachfrontThank you for your positive review of your stay with us at The Windjammer. We're thrilled to hear you enjoyed our accommodations and had a restful stay. Thank you for choosing to stay with us and we hope to welcome you back for another relaxing vacation.Written June 11, 2024This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited June 2024Written June 10, 2024
- MacJoeRaleigh, North Carolina429 contributionsMore Reviews of Sandspur Motel & Cottage Court BeachfrontSo I rate all places to stay on a global scale, fleabag to ‘comes with a butler’. This establishment is somewhere between a 2 5 to 3.0 on that scale. Within a narrow class of budget motel, maybe a 3.5 to 4. Room is spacious, clean, has a mini kitchen, and decent sized bathroom. Kitchen is equipped with a minimum level of plates, glasses, flatware. You either get a single building cottage or a 2 room building and most are single story so relatively quite Direct beach access from the parking lot and plenty of parking. Overall a decent little place to stay for a treasuries to be practically beachfront My only negative is that some of the remodeling and repairs seem to have been done by an unskilled DIYer, Doesn’t really impact the stay but knocks off half a star. Would stay here again though.Visited May 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten May 4, 2024
