Characterized by the French-style mansions which are the legacy of its aristocratic past, Recoleta is the true “Paris of the South.” Walking around this neighborhood is an experience like no other in Buenos Aires: its streets are lined with elegant apartment buildings, exclusive boutiques, and former mansions turned into high-end hotels and embassies, which exude an alluring air of sophistication and class. Recoleta in Buenos Aries is Bueno!
Manhattan/NYC native arrived in September to explore BA for a possible winter home (summer here). Stayed in Palermo Hollywood for a few weeks in modern penthouse with friends, and it was fine, but how many chic coffee shops does one need on the block? Moved to a dismal tiny airbnb in Recoleta for a month but loved the neighborhood, so after very little effort looking, I found an affordable luxury apartment in a Recoleta highrise. I absolutely love it. Reminds me of the Upper East Side but cleaner and more charming. The restaurants and food options are excellent, and I've found the people to be wonderful and eager to assist and advise. The plethora of pastry and ice cream shops are constant temptations, and the perfect little parks are the best in the world. This is a great city.

Recoleta is a picturesque and historic neighborhood
When planning to come to Buenos Aires, I picked three nights in the Palermo neighborhood and three nights in the Recoleta neighborhood. We had a modern renovated Airbnb in Palermo Hollywood and an older Airbnb in the Recoleta neighborhood. My wife and I liked the Recoleta Airbnb much better. It had a lot more character in an older building and the neighborhood was more enticing. The Cemetery was a short walk, as was the National Fine Arts Museum. We went to a street market one day which was fun, as was a couple of street markets in Soho. Restaurants and cafes are plentiful in the area. Recoleta is a great neighborhood for visiting Buenos Aires.

An absolutely lovely neighborhood. We had a great Airbnb 2 blocks from the cemetery and stayed for 10 days. Great selection of restaurants; the cemetery is amazing and definitely worth a visit; easy to walk downtown, up Libertador street to Japanese Garden, close to Fine Arts and Decorative Arts Museums and Florialis Genérica. Lovely buildings and easy to catch taxis. Best place to stay.

    Wonderful neighborhood
We came through this neighborhood one day on a guided tour. We were so impressed that we came back the next day for more exploring. There is so much here besides the cemetery. It has parks, museums and monuments. We shopped at a craft fair with hundreds of local artisans. There are many bars and restaurants to choose from for a variety of things to eat and drink.

A must do daytime tour area
My second trip to Buenos Aires and the Recoleta area, still my number “1” enjoyable tourist destination in BA. Especially on weekends when the market is booming with vendors . A little disappointed that an entree fee is required for the cemetery now . If you haven’t ever seen the cemetery, I would recommend paying and getting a tour . Having visited several times before, we skipped it this time . After the market, check out the museums up the street. All most do in BA .

A city of the dead smack bang in a city of the living
What an amazing place - a city of the dead within a city of the living. We were lucky enough to visit on a local school’s Founders Day where a lovely and emotional mass was held with the students singing. Our guide was fabulous making it interesting, factual and with humour. Amazing what people will do to preserve memories after death. Loved all the stories. Absolutely do it - take much water as even on a cloudy day, you need it

  • Montserrat Hotels
As part of the historic quarter of Buenos Aires, Montserrat is defined by the historical events that took place there and the landmarks that have stood the test of time. The Plaza de Mayo is at the center of this connection to history: countless public demonstrations have passed through this square, going back to the May Revolution of 1810. Walking the streets of Montserrat allows us to imagine what Buenos Aires may have looked like in the past: the Cabildo takes us back to the late 16th century, while the Palacio Barolo and the traditional cafés carry us to the early 20th. Nowadays, the neighborhood is inundated every day by office workers, buses, and taxis; still, the cobblestones, narrow sidewalks, and subway stations from the 1910s remind us that we are surrounded by history everywhere we look.

  • Puerto Madero Hotels
From its refurbished red brick buildings and port cranes to its modern skyscrapers and luxurious apartment buildings, Puerto Madero is the perfect combination of old and new. The river provides a quiet, relaxing atmosphere that contrasts with the hustle and bustle of heavy traffic just blocks away. Across the river, flanked by skyscrapers, are beautiful parks and quiet streets that make this neighborhood a unique destination in a city as busy as Buenos Aires. The restaurants, bars, and nightclubs on the docks make it a prime spot for nights out and have come to symbolize this area. Puerto Madero is even more striking after dark, when the lights from the docks and skyscrapers glow against the night sky.

  • San Nicolás Hotels
Immersed in the sound of honking horns and the footsteps of busy office workers, the Microcentro area of San Nicolás is where visitors will encounter the true hustle and bustle of Buenos Aires, walking down streets lined with office buildings and banks. The financial district is well-known for its vibrant atmosphere and unstoppable rhythm during office hours. After dark, the hubbub migrates to Corrientes Ave., where theater lovers might start their evening at a play and end it in one of the many traditional pizzerias nearby. During the day, Corrientes is known for its many bookshops and classic cafés, which are located just minutes away from some famous landmarks, like the Obelisco, Avenida 9 de Julio, and the Teatro Colon.

  • Retiro Hotels
Exquisite palaces and luxurious apartment buildings combine with art galleries and exclusive boutiques to make Retiro the perfect spot for those who enjoy sophistication. However, the non-stop foot traffic to and from Retiro train and bus terminals, accompanied by the myriad of trucks leaving and arriving at the port, mean this neighborhood is never truly at rest. One minute you are walking down a street dotted with ornate mansions and luxurious shop windows and the next you find yourself surrounded by a sea of people racing to catch their train or bus. It is this juxtaposition of never-ending comings and goings and quiet, elegant luxury that defines Retiro, as well as Buenos Aires, a city where sharp contrasts are all around.

  • Palermo Hotels
Best known as the largest neighborhood in Buenos Aires, Palermo is divided into different quarters, each with its own unique identity. The high-end quarter is Palermo Chico, characterized by magnificent mansions, regal avenues, and exclusive apartment buildings, and home to the Museum of Latin American Art of Buenos Aires (MALBA), a favorite amongst locals. The largest park in the city, the Bosques de Palermo, is Palermo's most famous landmark and a popular destination for nature walks, picnics, rollerblading, and cycling. The scene becomes much trendier in Palermo Soho, a hip area known for its cool cafés and unique design stores, filled with shoppers on weekends; and Palermo Hollywood, renowned for the numerous restaurants, bars and nightclubs, which make it the preferred spot for nights out and special occasions.
