Small twin bed room, continuous noise from A/C system meant we had to keep window closed on 2 hot and humid nights (but could still hear droning noise) Tiny wardrobe with hanging bar which kept coming off its housing. No hairdryer but luckily I had packed my own but found the sockets were nowhere near the mirror making it impossible... More

We spent two great nights here last week. We ate in the bar both nights for dinner and for both breakfasts and hung out a little in the bar. Three things: 1) Thanks for understanding food allergies and having gluten-free bread - amazing! 2) Please thank the gentleman on the second bar stool from the right for recommending a trip... More

Called in for lunch while passing through the village, it is quite expensive, beer at over £4 a pint and main courses around £15.00, Fish and chips around £12.00 and nowhere near worth it. It looks rather tired and in need of a lick of paint. Best to call into Keswick down the road and eat at half the price,... More

We were staying close by in early July and walked firstly to book a table and secondly to get some liquid refreshment. The former proved very easy and the latter very enjoyable. The weather was good enough to sit outside under the imposing shadow of Blencathra, a very enjoyable thing to do. Later in the week we returned for a... More

Staying in village for a week, so went for a family meal out. Quite expensive [£15 typical main]. Food good but not exceptional. Service erratic : 2 main courses served 3 minutes after first 2. Decided not to visit again during the week.

Stayed for a couple of nights. Our room was a good size with a big, comfy bed. Bathroom was also a good size with a shower/bath combo. Everything was clean and fresh with lots of wiggly walls that you'd expect in a 17th century building. They was a telly in the room but I've no idea what channels you could... More

Stayed for 5 nights in the sister pub, The Sally (50 yards up the road) and felt like one of the family by the end! Ate breakfast each morning and supper on four evenings at the H&F. Wonderful, characterful staff of all ages run the rightly popular H&F restaurant which takes over most of the equally characterful bar. Interesting menu... More

We called on our way to the lakes, just north of the A66. What a find. A really genuine friendly pub serving great food and beer. Both our meals were tasty & reasonably priced Would definitely call again.

Stopped here on the way home from Keswick and what a gem it was. Country style inn, serving reasonable priced good food and beverages. The portions are plenty and the staff were very welcoming. Would I recommend it. Yes!
