Karen Blixen Camp in the Masai Mara offers an authentic ’yesteryear’ experience for visitors wishing to gain that little extra from their safari. Set on the bank of the Mara River; the location is spectacular. Throughout the day elephants, giraffes, zebras and impalas come for a drink while a large hippo pod rest lazily in the river. The Camp gives a feeling of the early 1920’s era with beautiful and comfortable furniture.

Extremely friendly staff. Extremely clean rooms. Extremely good food. Extremely good safari guide "Simon" we saw the biggest river crossing of wildebeest ever!! and it lasted an hour! i had a friend who went there and fell ill and didn't go out to the safari. the staffs check on her every 2 hours! at night my slippers were covered with mud after walking in the rain. the next morning it was cleaned!! After every game drive when you come back, Virginia will be waiting for you with some hot towels to wipe down the tiredness and dust. good selection of free flow wines too!!

We planned this 'trip of a lifetime' months ahead and expectations were really high after reading so many good reviews. We were not disappointed. The greeting when we first arrived, and every subsequent return from a trip out, was so friendly and welcoming. To have our own waitress who had our table often set up with the fabulous views of the Mara river, was a privilege and lovely surprise - Judy we miss you! And Twala will remain in our memories always; his trips out were fabulous and he clearly worked hard to make it special for us, even getting us to see an actual river crossing. To see him still waving as we took off made us so sad to leave. Karen Blixen is a very special place to visit with so many wonderful personal touches - I could have actually stayed there and seen enough from our tent as so many wildlife came down to the watering hole opposite. We visited with our 11 year old daughter and she will always remember both the people and the wildlife experience, thank you.

All the conveniences of home with hippos in the river in front of the camps! Simply wonderful service with Job as our waiter. Virginia at reception was helpful with every question we had and always with a big smile. David was an outstanding and knowledgeable guide, surprising us with seeing so many animals, plus a surprise sundowner happy hour in the bush! And the long stop to watch the migration of the zebras and wildebeests was one of the major highlights of our entire safari trip.

This was the 6th tented camp I've stayed at in Kenya. Karen Blixen is set apart from the rest. My wife and I recently honeymooned in Kenya and stayed at Karen Blixen. The staff was hands down the best I've ever experienced. They went above and beyond ensuring that our experience was the best possible. When they found out the airlines lost our luggage, they not only offered to help us get some necessities, but we found two brand new suitcases in our tent after coming back from a game drive. The food is outstanding and the location couldn't be better. You are in the heart of the Mara North Conservancy which allows for the best game drives without much of the traffic. Our game driver Jonathan always put us in the path of the best animals. We are already planning our next visit and would not consider staying anywhere else.

Karen Blixen Camp is truly a piece of heaven. This is all made possible by the combination of exemplary staff (Virginia (front desk), Solomon (operations), Dominique (safari driver), Charles (bar man) and cant for the life of us remember our servers name but she was wonderful (beautiful personality). Upon arrival you are escorted to your accommodations (think very much glamping). All seemed to be close to the river to allow for perfect sunsets as well as the calming sound of the rushing river at night. In the morning you have options for game drives or breakfast at the camp. If you are there multiple nights I would suggest doing the morning drive at least once. Another suggestion is just take either a morning or an afternoon off of safari just to enjoy the camp and its amenities. Another option instead of a game drive is to visit a local Masai tribe village, would also suggest you do this during your time at the camp. Dinners are a good time where you can talk with other guests about your experiences and the animals you saw as well as get tips about what they have done during their stay. Also, if there during a cold period make sure to enjoy the fire pit by the bar or the fireplace inside the bar area. Had several great/enlightening conversations with Jasper about the camp, Masai people and the local area. As I said earlier this is a wonderful camp, you cannot go wrong here! This is not a review of the Masai Mara as a whole so I will leave out all of the wild animals we saw (needless to say we were both flabbergasted at the beauty and amount).
