RT has got the total lock down on fun, excitement, and hospitality. Sebastian, Garret, and Gorge are amazing, they make everything so personal and so much fun. Every detail was spot on; these young men do such a great job and they seem to truly enjoy every minute of what they do. I almost chickened out of the zip lining but with encouragement from Garret, I continued on and I’m so grateful for the whole experience. Sebastian is just WOW! The lodge was breath taking, the rafting an absolute blast, the cuisine was impressive, and the Pina Colada with plantain appetizer are the best I’ve ever had. Truly defined Pura Vida!!!

Property's Favorite Review
The only way to stay at the Rios Tropicales Lodge is to take one of the rafting trips. This is because the only way for anything to get to or from the Lodge (be it you, food, supplies, etc.) is by the river. The Lodge looks like one’s idea of a jungle lodge (multiple thatched, wooden, semi-detached cabins perched on the slopes of the jungle canyon walls overlooking the river rapids. The rooms are simple, and not large, but airy and plenty large enough with surprisingly modern bathrooms. The meals, prepared at one end of the spacious covered, but open on all four sides, dining cabin are not gourmet cooking but nutritious and tasty.

We spent 2 nights here this month and after a brilliant time rafting in with our fab guide, Loius, we were greeted by the crazy kitchen crew and other guides. Such a lovely welcome. Our room was great and we had hot water. Good food and lots of it. We did a guided walk with Andrea and found swimming spots with water falls that we then went back to on our own. The forests around the lodge are glorious with all sorts of birds and butterflies, plus howler monkeys galore. We loved this place and had a great time with all, but escpecially Andrea, Tori and Louis. The rafting out was even more fun and the gorge at the end is a dream. Thank you all and we will be back, but next time for longer.

Based on the reviews and website, we expected arriving at a tropical oasis where everyone can indulge in the activities of their choice. However, this was very false advertisement and I'm convinced the positive reviews come from people who clearly have never white water rafted in Delaware or spent ample time in nature. Some of the cons: 2-hour late departure for the white-water rafting; not enough food for everyone; requested vegan meals not sent for half the trip; uncomfortable rooms with no dehumidifiers or ACs or fans; the entire room smells like mold, and you feel dirtier after showering with damp and smelly towels; no staff informed us that we would have to book horseback riding in advance, so it was unavailable during our 2-day stay; yoga is also in general not available although it was also on the website and questionnaire; ziplining was unavailable because there weren't enough guides and the others didn't want to pay $75 extra for the activity so we had to hike instead; the "hike" covered 1.2 miles in 2 hours.

Stunning day. We were shuttled to and from the Pacuare river from San Jose and spent 3 hours on the water. What an amazing way to experience some of Costa Rica's beauty. Randall was our guide: funny, highly skilled, very safe, lovely. I plan to be back!
