We rafted in, spent 2 full days at Ríos Lodge and then rafted out. What a fabulous experience! We were so well taken care of. We had different guides rafting in and rafting out but all kept checking in on us while we’re staying at the lodge and inviting us to do different activities. Going with the flow, we were able to go zip-lining, a night-hike, a hike up through waterfalls, as well as, by ourselves, hang out in hammocks float in the natural pools (there are many) and stare at the greenery. The food was plentiful and (the unchanging) menu just big enough to let us come back for our favorites towards the end of our stay. All in all it was a perfect balance of clean and comfortable without going so overboard with sanitized nature that you felt like you were staying in a hotel room with some potted plants. The WiFi was adequate to keep out teenagers connected with their friends, but not good enough to watch movies - perfect - we were in a rainforest!

We visited Rios Lodge with 5 families travelling from Oregon down to Costa Rica. It's hard to say what we loved most about our experience. The setting is incredible and the journey in and out via raft was stunning. Our guides, who took us into camp and then stayed throughout, taking us on zip-lines, horseback, hikes and bonfires were fun, knowledgeable, personable and caring. On top of the gorgeous setting along the river and in the mountains, we were treated to outstanding meals from Chef Luca and his staff. The lodge made it easy to gather with friends as well as retreat to a hammock or nicely sized rooms for a little personal space as well.

We had an incredible stay at the River Lodge! The remote location was exactly what we were looking for, as it allowed us to truly unplug and disconnect from the world for a couple of days. Our host went above and beyond, meeting us at the drop-off point and ensuring a seamless arrival. The staff were exceptionally friendly, helpful, and talented, making us feel right at home. The beds were very comfortable. Be try clean rooms that have plenty of privacy. The food options were impressive, with a diverse range of choices and delicious vegetarian options. What really stood out was the knowledgeable staff guiding us through our adventure experiences, which included zip lining, river hiking, swimming, tubing, and wildlife viewing. The lodge's deck was perfect for relaxing in hammocks or practicing yoga. Overall, our family vacation was made truly special by the River Lodge, and we would give it a well-deserved 5 stars!"

I was at Rios Lodge for five days with a group. Everything was spectacular! The food was incredible. Thank you Chef Luca! There was a variety of desserts and entrees and all presented beautifully. My room overlooked the Pacuare River and was a short walk from the open air dining area. I made it an active stay as we rafted in (and out!) and hiked, zip lined in the canopy across the Pacuare, tubed down the rapids, swam in the river and in a pool below a waterfall and took night hikes. It was all magical. I especially appreciated the experienced guides who made us all feel so safe and were so knowledgable about the area and so much fun! Thank you Nela, Roy, Johnny, and Arturo. Sarita kept all running smoothly and Brian was a great bartender.

Absolutely stellar experience. I went to the lodge with classmates in a school trip. I have done my fair share of travel and nothing even comes close the Rios Lodge experience. What sets them apart is their story and their staff. RAFA, the Rivers And Forest Alliance, are a huge part of the lodges story. Their goal of preserving and reforesting the Paucuare River valley adds to the experience. The lodge strives to be carbon neutral and produce as little waste as possible. Additionally many guests, such as ourselves, are offered a chance to be involved in RAFA’s work. Most plant trees but we helped make mud balls that help grow a fungus that removes any w from the river. This was a truely unique and fulfilling experience.

Secondly the staff are incredible. The guide staff in particular was energetic, easy going, communicative, and knowledgeable. They were kind and helped us adapt to the unfamiliar jungle environment . Our three guides, Esteban, Jorge, and Adrian were great. Esteban lead my raft down the river and was essential on the zip line. He was kind and very approachable. Jorge’s knowledge of the area and the wildlife was unmatched. Any question you had he could answer. He led the night hike allowing us to see the regions famed wildlife such as the Ferdalance snake. Adrian was a wild card. He has absolutely no fear intentionally taking his group through the hardest rapids.

Overall the lodge was the experience of a lifetime and nothing was bad about it. I would 100% recommend!

Thank you for your stellar review! We’re thrilled to hear that your experience at Rios Lodge was unmatched and stood out among your travels. It’s wonderful to know that our story, particularly the work of RAFA (Rivers And Forest Alliance), made such an impact on your visit. Our commitment to preserving and reforesting the Pacuare River basin, and the opportunity for guests to participate in these efforts, is something we’re incredibly passionate about. Our mud ball initiative is a crucial aspect of our conservation efforts. By creating these mud balls, which help grow beneficial fungi that purify the river, guests like yourself play a direct role in preserving and improving the local environment. It’s wonderful to know that participating in this program added such a meaningful dimension to your stay. We’re also delighted that our staff, especially Esteban, Jorge, and Adrian, contributed to making your stay memorable. Their energy, knowledge, and ability to adapt to the jungle environment are integral to providing an exceptional experience. Thank you for your wholehearted recommendation, and we hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back for another extraordinary experience in the future!

River rafting with very professional guides (Jorge and Esteban) who brought us safely to the destination despite strong current
Whole crew at the lodge very friendly and accommodating, Sarita is a great hostess
Hikes are very informative, ziplining with all precautions - here too the guides are very caring
Exciting night bike with lots of wildlife watching
Very fine food - much homemade (bread, desserts)
Accommodation simple and clean but with beautiful river views

A visit to the Rios Lodge is truly “excellente”. It is a raft-in (approximately 1.5hrs) and raft-out (approximately 3hrs) lodge. Dependend on the time of the year, the raft is ok. Especially with the very well guidance on the rafts, one makes you feel safe and looked after.
It is not only the location that makes this Lodge special, it is the staff that makes it a unique experience. Warm welcomes, interesting visits during the days, and also a zip-line that makes the experience one never to forget. The rooms are what you expect in a Lodge. Thanks for the team of Jorge, Esteban and others that made our 3 nights unforgettable!

The rafting in was super fun, and the hike out was really cool too. Jorge and Sarita took care of us like family for three nights, adjusting the activities to our 75 year old abilities, but making sure we enjoyed zip lining, hiking, night walks, etc. The food was the best we had in Costa Rica, amazingly. We really felt immersed in pure nature, and Jorge’s knowledge and passion made it unforgettable. We were glad we brought small USB-rechargeable fans and extra set of dry clothes. Highly recommended, hope to come back with more of the family. A stupendous experience

I just returned from my first trip to Rios Lodge and I’m still relishing the entire experience. My husband and I rafted into the lodge on the Pacuare River for a three night stay in the rainforest. The adventure was just beginning. Our room at Rios Lodge was an amazing cabin overlooking the Pacuare River. The days were filled with yoga, waterfall hikes, tubing and zip lining adventures but still enough time to sneak in some hammock time. Our meals were totally on spot with a huge variety of options including vegetarian and vegan and a full bar to compliment. The big finale was the rafting trip out of the rainforest. A ten mile stretch of Class III and IV whitewater mixed with waterfalls and incredible foliage and wildlife was just the icing on the cake. Looking forward to our next adventure to Rios Lodge and taking our young adult kids too!

PS - Love that this place is self-sustainable and eco-friendly with their hydro-electric and solar power generators.

Thank you again to the management and staff for taking great care of us and exceeding our best expectations.

The real star of the show was of course the beautiful natural setting, the river and surrounding forest, all the bugs and birds and lizards and other animals that live there, the howler monkeys we watched across the river while we ate breakfast, fireflies every night, egrets and herons and cormorants all along the river trip, so much to see and hear and smell and feel!

Amidst this setting, the facilities and people of Rios Lodge provided a chill, comfortable home away from home. We ate well, explored, tried new things, and went to bed each night tired and happy. We laughed and joked and learned from the guides and our fellow guests. If there was anything that could have been done to make our stay better, I can't think of it.

I especially want to thank our guide, Jhony. So much fun, so much knowledge, so much experience. We feel very lucky to have been under your wing. All in all, these four days were unforgettable! Pura Vida!!!!

PS. Horseback ride highly recommended if you have time.
