The Lord Nelson Hotel and Residences is an apartment-style hotel at Dutchman Bay on the north coast of Antigua just 5 minutes drive from the V.C.Bird International Airport. The hotel now offers one-bedroom studios and two and three-bedroom beachfront apartments, ideal for those looking for spacious accommodation for a family or group vacation. The original Lord Nelson Hotel was built in 1950 and was the first beachfront hotel in Antigua. The local greenstone buildings still stand on the waterfront today and house our one-bedroom studios. The modern beachfront apartments are spacious and each has a fully equipped kitchen and living room with either two or three bedrooms each with an ensuite bathroom. All units come fully furnished and are fully air-conditioned. The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove, full-size fridge, microwave, coffee and tea making facilities, and toaster with all the pots, pans and utensils for you to put together your favourite meals and snacks. The spacious living room allows you to relax in comfort and watch your favourite shows on a 40” flat-screen TV. There is free wi-fi throughout the apartments. All bedrooms have a queen bed with an ensuite bathroom. All linens and towels are provided. There is also a washer and dryer in the apartment.

Detailed Reviews
I travel constantly for work and discovered this recently renovated hotel/condos.
It is located only five minutes from the airport(!) and the cottages are only a few yards from the beach in a safe uncluttered area with no traffic issues (unlike many hotels on Antigua which require long drives on narrow crowded roads!). The owner goes out of his way and energetically strives to keep guests happy. Again, this is very unlike many hotels on the island in the same price range where the locals don't take much seriously (during a previous stay in an Antigua hotel I had to change rooms three times to get hot water and internet, despite my calls the problems in my room(s) were answered only with "we are checking on it", but never fixed). The rooms are HUGE and fully equipped, beds are VERY comfortable, with the multi-bedroom cottages affording much privacy and distance from others in the same cottage.... ie. someone could be preparing breakfast in the kitchen and anyone sleeping would never be disturbed. There are two restaurants within walking distance but with fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, etc., you're better served by bringing and preparing your own meals and enjoying them on the front porch only a few feet from the beach. Restaurants on the island are expensive, even mediocre ones. Lord Nelson's is a true "getaway" from the crowded bustle near the city. The owner, Neil, went out of his way to greet us after hours and set everything up for us. He has the spirit of a true businessman anxious to keep clients happy. Highly recommended and prices are very reasonable. I'm giving this a "mid-range" price category rating, but I really want to select "Budget" because you're getting a lot of size and privacy for your money.

Responded Jun 1, 2021
Good afternoon, It was a pleasure having you guys stay with us. It was a shame that you got called to fly out so quickly. Maybe next time you can stay longer and really appreciate our location on the shore front. So glad you enjoyed your stay and appreciate your positive remarks.

Just had an incredible stay at Lord Nelson Hotel in Antigua . This ocean front self catering hotel on Antigua north coast is literally 10 mins drive to the airport and offers something totally different for Antigua.
The room was well furnished with all the amenities you would except . Hearing crashing waves at night whilst you relax on balcony was great .
Having a rental or taxi was easily accessible , with a few restaurants in nearby distance , delivery was also available and was a great base for exploring the real Antigua.
Neil and team are always available for suggestions on where to eat and explore .
Garden Grill was a favourite- 5 mins away -great cocktails .
Overall Great value for money , glad I was able to enjoy this gem outside of the typical all inclusive
Can’t get to be back .
Thank you Lord Nelson

+1
Very convenient location close to the airport and amenities such as gas station, highway, grocery store. This is not a resort- for that price you don’t leave the premises and enjoy everything on site.
Lord Nelson provides you with what you need if you plan to go exploring this beautiful island by car. It has comfortable beach front rooms with kitchen, washer/dryer included, WiFi, parking and a beautiful waterfront to return to and relax. Its location is not overpopulated with beachgoers so you can enjoy the serenity and quiet atmosphere. If you are there for a very short stay, transportation to and from airport can be arranged with taxi service or building manager. Cecelia’s restaurant, Garden Grill and Gather Steakhouse is walking distance along the beach and more than enough to appease any appetite or palate. Delivery services are also available if you prefer to stay in. Stayed here with family a few times over the past 2 years during the off season and will return in near future.

Firstly, if you are thinking of coming here you will need a car. We paid $30 US to get to here from the airport by taxi, literally 3 minutes.
Secondly, bring the local currency. We bought US dollars, when paying they did a mental conversion from ECD to USD for us using who knows what rate and then gave us the change in ECD. Half the time we didn’t know what we had paid??
Thirdly, be aware that there is an additional payment to be paid on arrival at this hotel.
The apartment we stayed in was comfortable enough, there were a few issues but they were sorted quite quickly. Neil the hotel manager is very pleasant & helpful. Although the description says it’s fully equipped, it’s not, we had to buy a bottle opener, tin opener, fish slice/burger flipper and baking trays to name but a few things in order to cook our meals and we needed them as we had to cook almost every night for 15 nights.
There is nowhere to store your valuables on site, but we did not have any problems.
The apartments are situated on the beach and the sound of the sea is lovely to listen to. However, the beach is not very wide and most of it is covered in old seaweed and debris, 3 sun beds for whole complex and a couple of wooden bench tables. There are much nicer beaches on the island if you explore, my favourite being Long Bay.
There are 2 restaurants within walking distance along the beach, BUT, they are not always open and you need to book in advance. A bit pricey too, in our opinion. One of them shut at 9pm, they were practically standing over us, while we were eating, waiting to take our plates away.
There is a little shop along the beach, although it is a bit hit and miss as to when it is open and it has a limited choice.
If you have a car, there are supermarkets not too far away where you can get most things.
There is a bus stop at the end of the drive, the bus will take you to St John’s where you can catch another bus to other resorts, beware, the last bus back from St. Johns is 5:30pm ish and taxis are very expensive. Buses are a cheap way to travel, but slow, as the roads are not great and there are many stops. St.Johns has a market and a designer shopping street where the cruise ships come in.
If you want places to go and things to do in the daytime and evenings try English Harbour, Jolly Harbour or Dickenson Bay as there is much more there. There are also lots of lovely secluded beaches on Antigua if that is what you are looking for.
If you want peace, quiet, total seclusion and to lose a few pounds come here.
The people of Antigua are very friendly and helpful and it is safe to go out and about.

Great experience for the entire group, as Neil was able to get us two apartments close, right on the beach for our time between our 10 days on the water and before we flew home to Canada. Our host and his team made us feel at home, and we were able to help us in all of our requests. This location is secluded on Dutchman's bay, very handy if you have a kite board. For us it was a place to hang out for 3 days before flying home and it worked perfectly. a few restaurants close and a convince store. A good place if you have a rented car.

I spent a night here waiting to go to the airport. If you don't feel like spending a thousand dollars a night at a luxury resort, than this place is OK. With the onerous tourism tax, my rate without an ocean view came to $300 a night. Clean, good AC, good wifi, but no hot water when I was there. This is an apartment hotel so don't expect a lot of services. Be sure to get the phone number of the manager before you come, because she mostly isn't in the office. There are two restaurants down the beach in either direction, prepare to get your feet wet. One, Celia's, is only open on weekends and requires advance booking. The other, a steakhouse, is pretty good.
Pro Tip: Don't order the continental breakfast

We made a last minute booking direct with the hotel following a very helpful conversation with the manager Neil.
The manager and staff were generally very helpful even supplying us with a cot and high chair for use during our stay even though these are not listed as being available.
They were always friendly and able to give us local tips about what to do and where to go which proved invaluable.
We also welcomed the late check out which was a life saver given we had two infant children with us.
A nice quiet location so you have the option to stay by the sea front at the hotel after a day travelling around the island.
Nice for families but you will have to make the effort to see the Island given the hotel's location on the island and the fact it's such a nice spot.

Lord Nelson was an absolutely incredible accomodation for my wedding preparation. Neil and his wife were very pleasant and accomodating and truly contributed to making my wedding day one of the best days of my life. Neil was easy to get in contact with and the room we stayed in was beautiful. Our wedding party was impressed with the features of the rooms and both my husband and I truly appreciated the wedding token given by Mr and Mrs Forrester. We will definitely visit again and recommend to all our friends.

we had a 2-bedroom apartment w/ a beach view. amazing setting to catch a sunrise, have coffee, and do some yoga on the beach. the beach is small and not ideal for an entire day but it looked great for wakeboarding and the location is a 20-minute drive to some of our favorite beaches on the island. stock up with a few provisions (especially on Sundays and Mondays when places tend to be closed) and the setup can't be beat. it was very comfortable and Neil was especially helpful.

This accommodation was excellent. Located very close to the airport and nice and quiet albeit out of the main season. We had a seriously large two bedroom suite for the two of us. All staff very helpful and kind. Especially Feona who handled our booking. We ordered external food to be delivered to the room and the venue provided us on payment two very seriously large lavish continental breakfast trays. Found this on booking.com at last minute. Our British Airways flight from Antigua to Aruba was delayed almost 23 hours so this venue came to our rescue. Thanks very much.
