This review is about my communication with the resort pre-check in. Had pre-arrival questions, multiple emails were sent and absolutely no one responded. I tried calling multiple times and got the run-around each time – I was told, “need to call this person/desk instead”, “let me transfer you (and then the call drops)”, “I am not sure (but not saying, let me check for you and get back to you)”. It really shouldn’t be that hard to get simple questions asked. Not a good first impression of this resort at all. They didn’t seem to grasp that we have something important we wanted to sort prior to arrival. I tried chat once. The chat agents must not be onsite as they don't have answers to questions about things at the resort, they refer you to call the resort. But that doesn't work, so as a guest with a question or a need before you get to the resort, you are stuck. Absolutely no menus for this resort or its sister resort appear on the websites. This is a bad thing for people with food allergies who need to see the menu options prior to booking a resort. And if you ask for the menus, they don’t respond! You basically have to wait until you get to the resort and hope the resorts restaurants will work for your needs. I am sure people who are debating whether or not to purchase the all inclusive plan would like to see the menus as well. FYI, I did find out by reading reviews that ice cream is not included on the all inclusive plan. That would be fun telling a child who wants ice cream after seeing another child who has some. It also appears that all inclusive may not be unlimited like a typical all inclusive. This one sounds like you literally get drinks, breakfast, lunch and dinner. I could be wrong, but never was able to fully sort that and their website is clear as mud with regards to what specifically is included in the all inclusive. I also did find out that you have to sign for everything you get on the all inclusive, every drink, every meal. It seems like this isn't always a quick process. It looks like you have to wait on this sometimes. No other all inclusive does this. You would think they would have a better system. It also seems like they really, really push the time share. If I can’t even get a consistent response (or even simply a response except for chat) trying in multiple ways (email, call, chat), why on earth would I want to put my money into a time share with this company? I will say the resort looks great. We would have loved to have stayed there. Pre-check in communication issues were so frustrating and didn't give us great confidence that the resort could handle any issues. Plus, some of their policies, waiting to sign a check on every all inclusive item purchased, seemed like they would take away from our vacation. Maybe we will try again in the future.

Awesome trip...incredible location and great accommodations/food. The resort staff is fantastic across the board — and I even had a chance to practice my (rusty) Spanish with Fidel from security on my morning beach walks to the market (between resort properties.

With 15 stays under our belt since 2009, I have written many times for Villa La Estancia. Prior to each visit, I always wonder if it will be just as good as the last time---and it always is---in this case, even better. The staff are the kindest, most thoughtful people in the hospitality business. Want to thank them all but here are the people we have encountered again and again over the years who have not only provided us with outstanding service but have lived up to the saying "Welcome Home" as that is just how they make you feel. At La Casona restaurant, Gabriel the bartender makes great martinis and always has them ready for us as we arrive. There are no words to describe how wonderful Miguel Navarete and Rogelio (Roger) are to us. We consider them friends and are so thankful for their kindness and welcoming ways. Gabriel (Gabby) at the pool is outstanding and always so very, very kind as well as being a hard-working professional who always places a flower at my chair. Also by the pool are Osvaldo who also was fantastic as well as Esbai, Daniel, Fidel and Jose Luis. Astrid the concierge is wonderful and has the answers to any questions you might have. The Bellmen Gerardo (Gerry) and Raul have been kind and gracious to us for years and we really appreciate their knowledge and courteous ways. Also Felix and Omar are wonderful as well. My husband once said to me that these are either the best actors in the world or the kindest people ever---the latter is what we now know to be true. We rented Unit 2502A from George Miller and he makes it so very easy to book into and return to his beautiful unit at this glorious place. My brother in law and sister in law joined us on this trip for their 30th wedding anniversary and were totally blown away by it all. They have already made plans to return. The staff here are second to none and we cannot wait to return in December. Muchas gracias to everyone. If you are looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation where you will be pampered to an amazing degree, book here---you won't be sorry.

This was our first resort experience and overall was very good. Just got back last night. Villas La Estancia is a beautiful property, with elegant design, and is fairly new and well-maintained. We opted for the one bedroom suite because we wanted a kitchen. The suite was large and tastefully designed, and the sofa bed for our kids was actually really good quality. There were a few maintenance issues with the apartment, such as non-functioning microwave hood range vent and absent locks on the main sliding balcony doors. The hotel was reasonably responsive, for example they came to fix our hotel room safe right away. But they couldn’t do anything about the sliding door. Not a huge deal because the place is pretty secure and the balcony is only shared with the one unit next-door. They already had a wooden divider up on the balcony when we got there which was nice. We did not pay for the all inclusive, because we were afraid we might not like the food. In retrospect, The all inclusive would have been easier, because, the food was quite expensive to pay for out of pocket. A simple beer was like seven bucks, and a plate of OK nachos was like 12 bucks. There really isn’t any walkable authentic Mexican restaurant nearby, so you will have to taxi or slog along the beach to Bucerias if you want good local fare for about 25 bucks for a four person meal. there is an ATM and convenience store attached to VS flamingo which is the resort next-door. By the way, they don’t seem to except cash at the resort and we were regretting not having brought more small bills for tips. We got our package through Costco and kids could eat free and the breakfast buffet which was pretty good was included, so one big trip to the supermarket and we had enough stuff to cook for occasional lunch and dinner when we eat in our apartment. This next part isn’t really a criticism of the hotel because it’s more my personal taste about big resorts. The place was beautiful, and really easy to just walk downstairs to one of the two large central swimming pools or even go down to the beach. But I did find myself getting a little bored there. You can go next-door to the VS flamingo and it has some resort directed games and activities and more action and loud music, but after dinner there wasn’t really anything to do and the hotel TV situation wasn’t great. There was no Netflix or Amazon prime. There was Apple TV box but we never bothered to open up an account. There were no games or anything in the apartment. By the way, the beach in that area is a little rough for swimming, but has a pretty shallow sandy bottom. The water has low visibility but is a really nice temperature. It’s on a bay so I don’t think they really have dangerous rip currents but I could be wrong. My kids 7 and 10 could play in the water as long as I was within arms reach. One of the employees went and got a boogie board for my son to use upon request. But because it was often really windy and choppy in the afternoon we spent most of our time in the pool. Our day trips by taxi to Sayulita and Puerto Vallarta downtown made me kind of miss a more happening cultural environment. Transportation was a little expensive, with a taxi to Bucerias being like six bucks one-way, to Puerto Vallarta and Sayulita like 20 bucks one way. Lastly, The workers at Villas were overall very friendly and pretty helpful. There was definitely some cases of people giving the wrong information or not knowing basic stuff like where the breakfast buffet was, but people seemed sincere. I wasn’t happy with being steered right into the timeshare lady immediately after check-in, but she was reasonable and not forceful. And they never bothered us about signing up for a presentation again. By the way, when we got to Puerto Vallarta airport, we were looking for gray line ground transportation which was part of the Costco package, and some slick timeshare guy reels us in to his spiel by insinuating that he was from the transportation company. So beware when you first get off the plane and you walk through that room where all these slick talking fellows are offering tequila shots to tourists. The real transportation people are out on the curb. Back at Villas The gym was really nice, not too crowded with a good mix of free weights and machines. shout out to Daniel who works there, he was always friendly and enthusiastic. We had a couple really good housekeepers, Sandra in the evening seemed almost like a family member by the end, and the daytime gal whose name I never got was really good also. They kept leaving us little chocolates. And they got us a few free dishwasher and clothes washer pods so we didn’t have to buy a whole package of those. The waiters by the poolside and at the breakfast buffet were very hard-working, but I think their environment is a little disorganized. For example, it’s a breakfast buffet with all kinds of juices and everything else in a self-serve set up, but you have to ask the waiters for coffee and water. The waiters also seem to be doing the busing, and they are being pulled in 1 million directions and often forget to bring your stuff. Buffet also has a good live musician who played a number of instruments and was cool to talk with. The employees really depend on specific shout outs to get raises and stuff, so I wish I could remember everyone’s name. The girls at the kids club were all nice. Cesar reception was helpful and cool during check out. Our flight was leaving in the early evening and check out was at 11, but they stashed our luggage for us and allowed us to use the pool and even shower and get changed in the really nice bathrooms in the gym before getting a ride to the airport. Oh yeah, and the other guests all seemed pretty nice and unobtrusive. I didn’t see any stereotypical “ugly American” behavior. And a lot of them were Spanish speaking families, possibly from the US, which was kind of a cool vibe because it made me feel less removed from the “real Mexico”.

Our week long stay at Estancia was amazing and we can’t wait to return! We have stayed at Villa del Palmar Flamingos many times so we’re familiar with the area and what’s available at both resorts. We had breakfast every morning at La Casona where Ramon and all the others took good care of us. Fidel greeted us every morning at the pool and checked in with us frequently to make sure everything was okay. Osvaldo went out of his way every day to make sure we had chairs, towels, umbrellas and shade while at the pool. Fabio was a friendly face every day and during dinner at La Casona plus provided a bonus magic trick one night. Eduardo, Rigo, Roger, and Alfredo provided outstanding service for every dinner we had at La Casona. Ricardo who served us at the pool was the best! He made sure we had everything we needed to keep us hydrated and fed. As always, everyone at the spa was wonderful and highly recommend a massage from Veronica. Dafne and Cecilia were always very helpful at the elite concierge desk making dinner, spa and transportation reservations for us. There is nothing I would change about our stay other than next time it will be for longer.

We had planned to visit another hotel in Rivieria Maya but made a last-minute change due to weather and almost no research time. We relied on a friend's recommendation and were not disappointed. The pools were peaceful and clean, the beach was easy to access and not rocky, the staff was helpful and the food was good. This resort doesn't have as many activities as some, but it was for the most part as advertised. (the website advertised a bunch of kid activities that really did not exist). Angelica was very friendly at breakfast each morning. Fidel and the security crew took great care of us at the pool and helped with chairs and umbrellas. Omar was helpful at checkout. Ernesto was helpful with boogie board rentals. And a big shout-out to Victoria who helped us get a table when the buffet evening event was full. We had to seek minor medical care and were satisfied with that.
