Hotel's Favorite
I went with my wife at the beginning of March. The place was fantastic. We had the jacuzzi suite on the balcony on the top floor, and it was worth it. Such a romantic way to spend an evening in a hot tub right there by the ocean. The view was great. The staff was all friendly, helpful, and responsive. The entire place was clean, and I had no worries about Covid. The staff all wore masks and guests almost always did as well. The food was great. A large breakfast variety, a good lunch, and great dinner choices. The Mexican restaurant was fantastic, and the beef tenderloins were very good. The pool was fantastic and staff in masks outdoors was always bringing us margaritas or pina coladas. Then you could go down to the beach and the sand was perfect. And during Covid, the place was not full, so this goes down as one of my favorite relaxing trips. I recommend this place for sure.

The Riu Palace Pacifico is a smaller resort so it's good for getting to the pool, beach and buffet easily. It's beautiful and very clean! lots of cleaning staff everywhere. The food was very good overall, seemed to be lots of choices and somewhat of a variety each day. We ate at the steakhouse one night and the ribs were good (but just as good at the buffet) and the chocolate cake was soooo rich and wonderful! Lots of fresh fruit, salads, good drinks, great service everywhere. With the variety of seating areas, you could always find shade or sun. The junior suite partial oceanview room was ok, I didn't like the two level seating area leading to the balcony. There was a large tub, so might be harder to get in if you have mobility issues. The bed was firm but comfy. The pillows were absolutely awful! not even really pillows just lumpy garbage! We complained and the front desk staff chuckled as they got that complaint a lot. The new pillows they gave us were normal and good. Ask for a room above level 3 if you hope to see the ocean at all. The lower levels look out onto a huge patio that you aren't allowed to go onto and the buffet is noisy underneath if you are on level 1 on that side. I have heard they are renovating the pool area into 4 separate pools so won't bother commenting on the pool. The beach is miles long so if you like walking then you can do that, but the angle of the beach leading into the water is a bit too steep for easy walking. This creates a lot of waves as well, so it's not ideal for little kids. The Palace is overall a quiet and beautiful place to relax, only about 25 min to the airport and the weather in Nayarit was stunning in December. The beach vendors didn't bother you too much, but there was always horses standing in front of the resort and I just felt sorry for them standing there in the 30 degree weather all the time with no food or water. Considering this was a Riu Palace, I didn't appreciate that we had to pay for beach umbrellas, pool tables, air hockey, paddleboarding. Definitely included in a lot of lesser star hotels I have been to. They also lacked nice entertainment in the lobby or piano bar (never heard anyone play). The evening entertainment started at 9:30pm and was way too loud for the small space they had. Lots of people sat outside to watch as it was a little quieter. Overall I would recommend this place and met lots of people that have been coming there for years. My biggest complaint would be that Riu is only partnering with Sunwing from Toronto and I will NEVER use Sunwing again. I can't even tell you how bad that airline is! With the Palace, you get to use the facilities at the Riu Vallarta and the Riu Jalisco that are about a 10 min walk away (by beach or pathway). The other two Riu's were much busier with dirtier bathrooms by the beach, longer lineups at the bar areas, smaller pools and tons of children. If you had kids, then those resorts had small waterpark areas for the kids so that would be more fun for them. The Riu Palace caters to an older crowd but was spotless everywhere and the service was great.

I traveled to Puerto Vallarta with my husband for the first time Nov. 28-Dec 1st. I travel a lot and usually stay in more newer and modern hotels. I was a bit skeptical based on the reviews saying the Riu Palace Pacifico Resort is outdated. However, this resort is Grand and beautiful. The lobby is beautiful with old world charm; High ceilings, lovely decor. Side note, this resort is actually located in Flamingo, which is Nuevo Vallarta. It’s approx. 40 mins from the airport. No good site-seeing or views while traveling. You can see the mountains in the distance, not too far, but not too close either. However, the views are beautiful when looking to the right or left on the beach. Lot’s of guided horses for tourist attraction. Also, there are several colored tents on the beach. They do great 1hour massages for $20. We went to the yellow colored tent. It’s worth it and it’s safe. About our room: We were upgraded to an oceanfront room. The rooms were a bit dated but it was large and clean. It had a high jacuzzi tub and shower combo, two sinks, and a large balcony overlooking the garden, pool, and ocean. The buffet was probably the best option for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. However, we did try the other restaurants such as the Japanese restaurant. It was just ok. Had sushi, veggies wrap, salmon, and shrimp & veggie tempura, which was very greasy. I read so many bad reviews about the steak restaurant but we tried it anyway. Strike 1: We waited almost an hour to get our food. I had crab cakes for appetizer which was delicious. My husband had a bland Caesar salad. For dinner he had the rib eye and I had the filet mignon with grilled shrimp. Both meals came with corn on the Cobb and a few broccoli stalks. Strike 2: My husband’s steak was not seasoned. He asked for well done but it was cooked medium (and it wasn’t even a thick cut steak). I asked for my filet mignon medium and it was rare. However, my steak was very flavorful but I was only able to eat the outer side that was seared. Our resort was very chill and laid back with a more mature crowd. I’m guessing 50+. Not sure if it’s always like that or if it was because we went during the week. However, the good thing about staying at the palace is that we got to go to the other Riu resorts which is approx. a 15 min walk down the beach. It’s very safe but it can be a tiresome walk through the sand if taking multiple trips. You walk pass a few condos the Riu Jalisco, which had a lot of kids, then finally Riu Vallarta. They had multiple pools whereas the Palace only has one huge pool. We hungout at Riu Vallarta adults only pool two days in a row. We’re even allowed to have lunch there. We tried their bbq by the pool for lunch and the chicken was amazing. I got the last piece and was mad I got there late. The adult’s pool wasn’t young drunk crazy. The crowded varied fro like 25-50 and every was so cool! They had a foam party in the family pool on Wed. I was skeptical about participating because all I could image was a large bubble bath for kids. However it wasn’t that many kids. I actually think the adults had way more fun. I know I did! The downside of our trip was when something went wrong under the floors in our room not sure if it was pressure from the pipes or what but the tiles started lifting cause a slope and hill. My husband actually hurt his foot when walking to the bathroom in the middle of the night. We notified the front desk first thing in the morning and there was no sense of urgency. It took forever for Mai ten even to come investigate the problem and for us to get a room change. We stayed in room 7040. While on the elevator we were talking to another couple who stayed on the 4th floor and they said the same thing happen in the hallway on their floor. I was told the resort is undergoing a renovation in 2023. I will probably return again once it’s safe.

All I can say is what a great place, everything was perfect where do I start The lobby is amazing. You definitely believe you have just walked into a Palace. Bell boys greeted us took our luggage and directed us to check in. Check in quick and easy. Given our key and up to our room we went, luggage was already there. The room was nice and big, a king size bed, sofa and dressing table, mini bar fully stacked and premium brand spirits in optic. Bed was comfortable. Bathroom was large but only had shower in bath tub and the area was very dark. Balcony was a good size and what a view for a limited sea view. Cleaners came in every day and did a brilliant job. Pool area is clean and very large, lots of sun beds but need to be up early to get a good position, not a worry as plenty of beds on beach and it is only 10 steps away. Pool is large, clean and warm, it is becoming a bit dated but this is due to be redone in 2023. Plenty of activities in pool but these don't spoil your fun if you don't want to join in as only at one end. Pool bar service is good and they make strong drinks. Breakfast is served in the buffet restaurant and you can eat inside or out on terrace. We did a bit of both but special mention of Thomas out on the terrace, always smiling, willing to have a laugh, after day one he would see us walking along and would prepare a table with drinks even before we asked him. Plenty of selection for breakfast, I'm fussy but always found something, fresh omelette and pancakes cooked to order. Lunch is served in the buffet restaurant , again Thomas did a great job, even had my beer in the table before I sat down, again good selection of hot and cold drinks. Dinner time you have a choice of 4 themed restaurants and the buffet restaurant. If you want to try the theme restaurant you need to be down by 1900 as you can not book, by 1945 must are full upto closing time. I be honest I wasn't impressed with themed restaurants, limited selection, 2 starters 4 mains 2 deserts in steak House, much the same as Mexican restaurant. I believe quality was better in buffet restaurant was always had a large selection of hot and cold dishes and plenty of choice if meat and fish. Evening entertainment was to a very high standard and a massive thank you to the entertainment team and dancers who worked so hard and wouldn't look out of place in the West End of London. The house band who played on Tuesdays Thursdays and Sundays were brilliant 4 main bars with sports bar open 24 hours , if you got a half filled glass you get another drink without asking. Rodger on the beach is brilliant around every 30 minutes he would be round to order more drinks Beach is clean, water is not blue as lots of sand and waves, some days it can be difficult to get out as slight shelf and soft sand. Get sunset over the sea and you can horse ride at sunset So to sum it up GREAT HOTEL GREAT STAFF FOOD IS GOOD POOL AND BEACH GOOD ROOMS ARE GREAT

Beautiful resort, awesome people and great food. Biggest Con? The slippery surfaces near the pool and in the rooms. Take sandals to wear when you get out of the pool, as you could fall and hurt yourself, or just burn the bottom of your feet during the heat of the day. Also, our toilet tank leaked in our room, flooded the bathroom and when I went in to check it out, I slipped and landed right on my back and left arm. No broken bones but definitely bruised and sore for several days. Be careful!! Elevators were slow, or not functioning quite a bit of the time. One was often shut down. They need to work on that for sure. PROs: We were there for 10 days and never got bored of the buffet choices. There was only one meal out of all of them when we were disappointed in the selection. Lots of healthy choices as well as decadent ones! The restaurants weren't really hard to get into, as long as we were there before they opened. We aren't late eaters so it worked for us. Only drawback was the steak house was booked a couple of times for wedding parties so we couldn't go those nights. Not a big problem for sure. The pool was very nice, only complaint was that, like many hotels, you have to get down there around 7 to get and save decent chairs in the shade. When it's 30 degrees C we definitely need shade, and they could have provided more umbrellas. We would grab our chairs, then head for breakfast and then to the pool (or beach). Sadly, there are a lot of folks who seem to save chairs then don't show for several hours; maybe they went into town first? Who knows, but it is incredibly rude. There is a quiet end to the pool (the north end) and a noisy end where all the activity takes place. If you aren't careful you could end up right near the big speakers so watch out for that! The beach was very pleasant, you could rent umbrellas from private vendors if you don't get shade from the trees, 200 pesos or $14Cdn for the day so it was worth it. Very quiet, and much less crowded than the chairs by the pool. The water isn't really clear but playing in the ocean was still fun. I did get bitten by some little creatures in the water that got under my bathing suit. Sharp stings, then a bit of an itch, then nothing but a red bump / mark that has faded but still hasn't fully gone away (3 weeks later). Hubby didn't get anything though, and it only happened one day. The workers were great and friendly. Shoutout to the fellow at the buffet who oddly but humorously meows as everyone walks by...with a big smile and a laugh. Always made me smile! We had a couple room service issues but they were addressed relatively quickly. Evening entertainment was great! We loved Jon in the piano bar, and the entertainment shows we did see were well worth it. Also, theme nights in the lobby made it a bit of fun heading to or from dinner. I would recommend this hotel again for sure, especially if they can do something about the slippery floors!

After reading a few negative reviews we hoped that we wouldn’t be disappointed in the Riu Palace. Honestly, once we arrived we thought that those people must have been reviewing the wrong hotel. Everything was perfect. The resort itself is stunningly beautiful, spotlessly clean, the food is exceptional and the staff very helpful and friendly. We’ve stayed in many all inclusive resorts, and eaten in many buffet style restaurants but none to match this for variety, quality, presentation, and excellence. The first night there we were served by Marcos and every night afterwards we chose to sit in his area because of his exceptional service and his professional but friendly manner. I’m not saying that we had “bad service” at breakfast or lunch, but nobody matched Marcos. The whole resort is beautiful, the beach is perfect for long walks, we saw two weddings while we were there, the weather was lovely, sunset views from the balcony, a really wonderful vacation. If I had to make one suggestion for improvement I’d suggest replacing the bathtubs with walk-in showers. Otherwise the rooms are spacious, well appointed, spotless, and we found the bed comfortable too.

We spent Thanksgiving 2022 in Puerto Vallarta at the RIU Pacifico. We had a wonderful second experience at this resort. November was the perfect time to visit this resort, weather in the low 80's, water temp was a little cool and the volume of people the right amount. Especially when waiting to get into a restraunt or at the pool bar. From the breakfast experience to the late evening snack, they resort was on it. The rooms were clean and AC worked, very comfortable. need to shout out to our morning guy Julian for making the first hour of the day fantastic. Anna and Jennifer of the entertainment group was fantastic at keeping everyone involved and fun with volleyball. Yuedl was the pool bar concoctions guy. He could make any drink you ask for. Thanks RIU for a great vacation.

What a fantastic hotel. Beautiful location, beach goes on for miles, wildlife amazing. The staff make it. Shout out to the Maitre’d Roman & bar staff Christian & Nelson & all the girls around the pool for looking after us. Food is excellent everywhere. Only complaint is the hard beds. Just hope they don’t ruin the character of the hotel when it gets its refurb next year. Will be back to check it out.

Perfect weather, wonderful location, massive pool, superb food choices, very friendly staff, entertaining activities. All you could want from an all-inclusive holiday. Only two small criticisms. The ice machine in the corridor was so loud, it was audible in our room, and despite being a whirlpool bath, the shower over it was a bit antiquated, with low water flow. It also felt a bit slippery, and the handrails were definitely needed, when stepping in and out.
