So first of all this hotel was rated a 6 golden apple with apple vacations. I would give it maybe 4 red apple rating. I have never gone to a hotels where I could not get my room as soon as I checked in even before covid. Hotels are not at full capacity and had to wait at least 2 1/2 hrs before getting our room. Everyone after us checking had a room right away. That was not a great start to our vacation. Once we got to our room we had to lysol the walls because there were little critters walking on the walls near the Frig and on our table in the sitting area. Missed a whole day at the pool and beach. The shows were horrible, not professional at all. I do have to say the dancers were talented. Alot of the food at the buffets were cold although waiters were wonderful all around the hotel. The pool was nice but we were stepping on a lot of loose tiles from the pool. It needs a complete over haul to fix the tiles and all the cracks in it. The beach was okay but the water smelled like dead fish, so couldn't go in there either. The Riu entertainment people around the pool when they were there always seem to cater to certain people. Never came to beach to invite people to join in any activities. We took a walk down the beach to the other 2 Riu's. They were hoppin!! The Riu Vallarta our first stop had 4 beautiful pools. Waiters with carts around all the pools making drinks, great music the entertainment people were around each pool puling people to get involved. Seemed none stop. So much fun! Much more outdoor restaurants and activiites. Next stop Riu Jalisco was also nice too. Not a whole lot going on there but nice outside pool areas. I will stick with the gulf coast of Mexico in riviera maya at the best hotels around "The Iberostars". Now they are a 6 Golden Apple Hotels.

Hotel's Favorite
I went with my wife at the beginning of March. The place was fantastic. We had the jacuzzi suite on the balcony on the top floor, and it was worth it. Such a romantic way to spend an evening in a hot tub right there by the ocean. The view was great. The staff was all friendly, helpful, and responsive. The entire place was clean, and I had no worries about Covid. The staff all wore masks and guests almost always did as well. The food was great. A large breakfast variety, a good lunch, and great dinner choices. The Mexican restaurant was fantastic, and the beef tenderloins were very good. The pool was fantastic and staff in masks outdoors was always bringing us margaritas or pina coladas. Then you could go down to the beach and the sand was perfect. And during Covid, the place was not full, so this goes down as one of my favorite relaxing trips. I recommend this place for sure.

The Riu didn't disappoint. Our four night stay was filled with sun and wonderful meals. My daughter took delight in ordering for us at the Japanese restaurant. Other dinners included the Mexican Restaurant, the Steakhouse and seafood night at the Buffet. Our health was apparently important to the Riu because of their (and our) masks and QR codes for less close-up interaction.

Wow what can I say about this hotel its beautiful. Had an amazing 2 weeks here. Everything about this hotel is 5 star. All staff are so friendly and helpful and always remembered you drinks at the bars and restaurants. Food was the best I've ever had in an all inclusive hotel. Tried all the restaurants and loved them all. Beach was gorgeous with plenty of sunbeds. Waiting staff on beach constantly topping up drinks. Loved the sunsets they were just spectacular every night. Rooms kept lovely and clean and mini bar stocked daily. Really can't say anything bad about this place. Will definitely be returning and hopefully soon. Thanks for the perfect holiday

After waiting 2 years we finally got to get away and we certainly weren’t disappointed. We travelled with 2 of our grown up sons and we all had a fantastic time. The rooms were spotlessly clean and well appointed. Yes the bathrooms are looking a little tired but I personally love having the choice of a bath or shower. We tried the specialty restaurants and enjoyed them all especially the Japanese one as this is where we celebrated our sons 21st birthday and the waiters brought out a cake with candle and sang happy birthday to him. It certainly made it more special for him. The buffet restaurant was excellent and all of the staff were friendly and helpful especially Maria who was fantastic everyday and really looked after us. We mainly spent time around the pool and never had any trouble finding sun loungers even when we went down at mid day. We were a little worried after reading some previous reviews about the pool but apart from a step being dirty , we had no concerns and there was staff actually in the pool several times cleaning the tiles etc. A few days running we were bothered by loud music from various other groups but when politely asked to turn it down , they did so. Overall we had a fantastic holiday and are already looking at returning later on in the year.
