If you want an unspoilt Indian Ocean paradise, that’s what you’ll get on Makunudu. Lush, green vegetation, amazingly crystal clear water, and nice big rooms. Yes, the bathrooms could do with some TLC, but they’re clean and serviceable and does it really matter when you only spend 30 minutes a day in there anyway. The reef fish are opulent in their profusion, right outside your beach front bungalow. The sand is white and beautifully clean. The restaurant and bar staff are very attentive, we never sat with an empty glass for more than a few seconds. The food in the restaurant is sumptuous. The lunchtime buffet always made me over eat and dinner was always well cooked and of good quality. My only whinge is, why on earth would you introduce karaoke in the bar and spoil the peace and serenity of such a special place, which invariably made everyone, but a few, leave and go to bed early! I don’t get it, although the staff seemed to enjoy it more than the guests!

Makunudu island really is a little piece of paradise! We had read all of the positive reviews before we booked and having just returned from a wonderful seven-day trip, we can confirm that they are all very accurate! The Island is absolutely stunning-beautiful white beaches and clear waters with the most incredible wildlife. A fabulous place for diving and snorkelling and to be close to turtles, sting ray, mantas, nursing sharks and beautiful fish. From the moment we arrived until we left, all of the team made us feel so very welcome and we really did switch off for the time that we were there and felt so rested after even the first couple of days. The breakfasts, lunches and suppers were all really excellent and we are very grateful to the chefs for always providing a fabulous array of culinary delights every day. A truly memorable trip for our 20th wedding anniversary and one of our best holidays to-date. Many thanks to all of the excellent team!

Our third stay at this very special place which has just 36 rooms a few steps from the sea. It still has the vibe of the Maldives of 25 years ago, so can seem dated. If you want water bungalows, floodlit tennis, gourmet restaurants etc, go elsewhere. Even the twice-weekly karaoke was a negative development for us, as we just like a quiet drink and chat in the bar. Many guests spoke German, but English is the common language. It isn’t really somewhere for young children as there are no special facilities, and one toddler bawled at every meal. But it’s a great place for older teenagers to learn to snorkel or dive. We had mixed weather in October and you needed to be a confident swimmer with quite strong sea currents even close to shore. Sadly, there’s a lot of dead coral. Staff work tirelessly to look after the rooms and public areas, and to keep you fed. Dinners are set meals five nights a week, with a choice of creative fish, meat and vegetarian main courses in substantial portions. Other evenings plus all breakfasts and lunch are buffet-style. Most guests were on All-Inclusive deals but we had booked Full Board – ie breakfast, lunch and dinner, including water and tea/coffee at meal times. It was nowhere near worth the $110 pppn to upgrade, typical costs being: Coke $5; Wine (25cl) $6; Small beer $7; G&T or cocktail $13 (add 22% tax & service to above). Some tips: 1) Don’t miss the feeding of the (normally harmless) nurse sharks from the jetty every evening. 2) Apply strong DEET insect repellent as soon as you arrive – sandfly bites to the legs are more of an issue than mosquitoes. 3) You get 2GB free wi-fi per person for a single device, but if you wait a few minutes you can log onto a different device. Top-up costs $12++ for 5GB (one device) or $37++ unlimited. 4) Re Maldives current entry/departure forms: You don’t get an email confirmation so know how to save a screenshot before you leave home, and save a photo of yourself to your device.

We were introduced to Makanudu by relatives who have visited this and other islands in the Maldives I can say the booking process was made so easy by Claire #angelfish travel. They were super efficient and kept us fully up to date with any time changes and connecting flights When we got to the island we were so pleased with the outstanding beauty of the island...absolutely stunning. Just to give you an idea, the island was although small it was set out in a way that ensured it was not overcrowded . Each bungalow opened to the outstanding white sandy beaches. This gave privacy and a feeling of just being immersed in paradise. The staff we so attentive, from the manager to the gardening staff. I was especially impressed by the waiting staff and chef. I have a gluten intolerance and they made sure I had plenty of choice in the menu, even going as far to make me special meals and deserts. Can not fault their service and attention to detail If you want that perfect getaway holiday in paradise where you do not need to put your shoes on from the moment you arrive until you leave. Then this is absolutely the place for you !!

Visited Makunudu Island and Resorts during the month of July’2022 with my family. Seemed like a virgin island with basic amenities in place, it had a natural coral reef and cottages opened into the sea. It has a beautiful bar, a large dining area and a small spa. The island has limited rooms and staff were very friendly. I have never ever been to a better place than this resort in my entire lifetime and would like to go back again in near future. Sharks coming to eat leftover food from restaurant at around 9 pm is a sight to behold. I would like to give a shout out to front desk staff Subramaniam and Ester. Also to Abin and Ful Mia in the restaurant and Habib in the bar. Ricardo and his wife were absolute darlings and along with Saiful were in charge of the water sport activities. Special mention to ladies at the Spa. The natural beauty left me and my family members spellbound! Cheers to Team Makunudu, with loads of love!

Makunudu is a truly special place. We had a wonderful 8 days where we enjoyed being in contact with nature. Observing the local water hens, Makanas, lizzards, crabs, fruit eating bats and the currently nesting Terns, is so grounding and so comical at times to watch too. Having the chance to look into the ocean in close by coral reefs is an unforgetable experience. We never had the change to be so closed to turtles, mantas, nursing sharks and beautiful and unusual colorful fishes. Sayful, KD, Ricardo and everyone at the water sport center made the experiences memorable. I dont remember the names of everyone at the front desk but all were very helpful and polite, Su, the nurse, always smiling and radiating positivity. Subbu was very welcoming, always up for a chat when passing the front desk. The people at the bar and our kind and warm waiter, Anwar, have contributed to make our stay very pleasant. We admired all of them, many who have been there for a number of years dedicated to customers. I cannot speak highly enough of all of them. The island is beautiful, rustic, unpretentious, clean, rooms large with very comfortable bed. Bit tired bathrooms but all kept clean and visited by the cleaning staff 2 times a day ! and the Spa ! beautiful place with very skillful staff. We had wonderful massages. The food is pretty good and varied. Bearing in mind that you are in a small island with no fancy supermarkets in the vicinity , the chef did manage to put together decent and well presented food. Their BBQ are great and tasty and so is the Maldivian food night once a week. We simply loved everything and everyone ....our mind is still there and so is our soul. This place will remain in our memories forever... if only was closer and more affordable we would be there very often. Love to all at Makunudu from Az and Maria

We watch the news about travellers around the country trying to get on holiday. "Such horror stories" they can't reach their airline or agent when things go wrong. For our holidays to the Maldives we book through Angelfish Travel. They are totally professional, are available 24-7. Any changes to the rules ,flights etc. whilst we are away they text e-mail or phone the resort. We booked to return to Makunudu in 2020 but because of the pandemic it was not possible. Angelfish were in touch on a regular basis to guide us through our options and also liased with the resort. We finally arrived at Makunudu in early May 2022. Flying from Manchester with Emirates to Dubai then to Male then a speedboat to Makunudu.A long journey but such an adventure. We received such a warm welcome to this little gem of an island It's so beautiful and peaceful . It really is no news no shoes. The island is recovering well from the last 2years, like everywhere else staff levels are not quite at previous levels but it didn't affect us because everyone seems to work twice as hard. The food in the one and only restaurant is good and plentiful as always. Helal's egg station is brilliant and Thank YOU for the porridge. Friday evening is Maldivian, the Kotthu is superb plus the entertainment. Good to see Ishmael,he looked after us in the restaurant,as did Milon and Ahmed and also Rofique. Our thanks to all the kitchen staff they never seem to stop working!! In the sand bar Habib who has been on the island for over 20years lovely man he knows exactly what everyone likes to drink and keeps them coming. and Susil so helpful with a good sense of humour. Our villa no 1 (only 36 in total) was perfectly cleaned by AbuTalib he is so clever at bed art Thank YOU .Rooms are comfortable, beds are huge for a good night's sleep. It was also great to see Shuba lovely young man quite shy. We were so pleased to meet up with Soonil bar and restaurant manager he is so welcoming. The reception staff do everything they can to oblige any requests Sue,Esther Anandhu and Subra Geoff says thanks to the guys for the table tennis a real workout!! Our niece Vannessa and her husband Ray were on Makunudu at the same time as us it was great to be together ,their first time to the Maldives. We also met Karen and Ian and Chris and Arthur they were excellent company good drinking buddies. We always had Mohadev (security) to escort us along the path to our villas when we had spent too long in the bar. The island has a good professional dive centre although we didn't use It other guests were impressed if you need any snorkelling equipment They will provide it The island is well kept and beaches looked after regularly by the gardners. The paths feel like talcum powder.no shoes Last but not least the new G M Shaugy his hospitality and wonderful sense of humour what a treat. He had us all laughing until we ached Thank you so much !! We had a wonderful stay on Makunudu 28days we could have very easily stayed longer all we needed was more money on dear. Hope to see you all again soon THANKYOU. Diane+Geoff (Dales)

Makunudu we love you!!!! It was our 2nd time we stayed at this beautiful island and we want to go back as soon as possible! It is my paradise on earth. All of the staff is amazing and so friendly. The food is exceptional and plentiful with lots of different options being offered all the time. The rooms are spacious and clean and offer all you need. The house reef has so many corals and fish. It is a short swim from the beach. On one snorkel alone we saw 4 sharks, 2 turtles, a lobster and an octopus! The island is small, quiet and peaceful. It is incredibly lush and makes you feel like you are walking through the rainforest. I found when researching resorts in the Maldives, you have to know what you are looking for because there are so many options. I was looking for: thatched individual beach bungalows, a great house reef to snorkel on, a small peaceful resort with as few people on it as possible and an island that was an easy boat ride from the airport. Makunudu was the only one I found that matched all my criteria. What can I say if possible we will be back!!!!
