I was lucky enough to work remotely during the months of Sept and Oct. I made a trip to Boca Chica and stayed the the La Hamaca Suites. First i would say from day of my stay the staff (Siudersy,Zuleida,Pio) made my stay very relaxing and accommodating. Siudersy took care of whatever needs and requests i had and made sure my booking requests where done for the past 6 weeks. I stayed during the non all inclusive period per covid. And i must say they made sure i had the right people get my food and pointed me in the right direction to whatever requests i needed. Also the secondary staff was amazing as well ( CLEANING LADY, PORTER) where so amazing and respectful. Location was amazing right on the beach which was very clean and the strip to the other beaches and restaurants. From Management to staff i was treated with so much respect and class i have not one complaint. Now for the people who read this remember this is a hotel and covid has hurt alot of workers income. Please make sure you tip the employees DR is still a very poor country and the workers will very much appreciate it. The workers there will work with you and make sure you needs are met. Again thanks to Siudersy for the very attentive help and making sure my stay went ery smooth and well.

Stayed here after the place I had a timeshare shut down for renovations. Made an offer and they accepted. Was a little concerned about the ratings, but the world is full of complainers.

Room was ok. Loft with a full bath on each level came in handy. Drinks, including a nice bottle of wine and soft drinks were in fridge. Housekeeping was attentive to bottled water needs. Lost power 2-3 times. No big deal. Food was not in several places. Basically just one free dining room and the snack bar. Honestly, once we found Pelicano and Neptuno, we ate there at market prices. Biggest complaint is wifi. It does NOT exist, except in the lobby, and that's not saying much.

Beach is great! In Boca Chica but separated enough to be private. The guys at the beach bar are top notch.

We came Sunday and left Saturday by design. The locals come to party for the weekend. Everything gets crowded and noisy.

Overall a nice place, but REALLY needs a full renovation. With no wifi, I won't be back. Sadly.

Hello everyone this is a deep dive or detailed review of this hotel; I will let you know my personal experience regarding my 3 day visit to this “resort/hotel”, I am an airline employee with 20 plus years in this industry visiting plenty of resorts throughout the world and in the Dominican Republic, if you are a fellow airline employee or tourism related employee don’t visit this place. I arrived and the employees were not all that welcoming or nice in any particular way; first thing I noticed once I got to the hotel, it’s the fact that they post beautiful photoshopped pictures when in reality the hotel is falling apart from A to Z wherever you look its pretty sad the condition its in. Lobby its not nice or neat looking a lot of broken items form chairs or furniture to windows or doors; once I made it to the hotel room anything that was supposed to be metal had RUST on it, I am talking from light fixtures to the door to the water faucet it all had RUST which if you’re like me and like cleanliness a lot, it felt pretty bad. The door main lock did not work; the door wooden frame piece fell apart almost hitting me and stabbing me with its nails. Hot water only worked in the shower when it felt like it. The king bed was very uncomfortable and the furniture in the room was used up to the level that it looked like it was from the 1970’s. You could seriously hear the air conditioning like it was in the closet that’s how loud it was and the air conditioning vent was black and rusty as well which made me and my companion had a sore throat the next day. I asked to speak with a management member and they were never available; you could let the front desk agent know all of these issues and they did not know how to answer or what to do. The room phone did not work at all. The GYM was shut down and this was the first reason why I decided to stay in this hotel, I could have stayed somewhere else where the GYM was opened and they just brushed this off, it is not in their website that the GYM is closed. If you have kids I would tell you do not go to this place as it is not safe in general when it comes to the premises and specially for young kids. The only thing I liked about the place was the access to the beach and the employees in the beach area were very nice specially the ones service drinks and food, they were extra nice and attentive in the beach area. I hope this review helps you with your decision.

The entertainment crew is one of the best crews I’ve ever seen. The hotel needs some serious upkeeping. Until then, the price needs to be adjusted accordingly. I stayed away from the all inclusive package since there is great gold all over town.

This place was just sold. Don’t know who it was sold to or what is going on but it will be closed for at least one year. The location is amazing but the property is old. The neighborhood has a ton of potential.
There is also a new development going on across the street that should also be don’t in the next year that is new condos.

My wife and I last visited "Be Live Hamaca" during the period 10 April to 25 April 2013. This time was our 20th visit and once again we had a super complaints. Each year since 1995 we visited our very special place. Over the years we have spent mostly 14 day visits but we also did a series of 21 day visits. Last year we visited Hamaca in April and then again in November. In total, starting in 1995, we have so far spent a grand total of 309 days at the Hamaca all inclusive resort. Sure we have been to other resort islands for example: Jamaica (2), Antigua (2) Cuba(1) St Lucia (1), Bermuda (1) and five other locations in the Dominican republic. If our good health continues then we have good intensions of visiting Hamaca once again in November this year.

There have been many upgraded renovations over the years and we were there for all of them and this tradition continues. The present management and staff are totally excited about the most recent changes that have already taken place and the ones that are currently being developed. This group of Management and Staff are working extremely hard to improve the way things are being done to make sure that we all have a most enjoyable and care free vacation. They are eager to assist in any way they if you are having a problem don't be afraid to ask for help.

Just to mention a few of the major renovations that took place since our last visit. The re-construction of the Pelicano Restaurant has been completed and is open for business. The addition of a new Disco for the "Young at Heart" has now been completed and open. The bath rooms in the beach snack bar area have been renovated and what a pleasant surprise for all...including private change areas. The gift shops have been renewed and offer special items of interest for everyday purchases and beautiful jewellery for those beautiful people who look for something very unique. Last month they were completing the new Brazilian Restaurant near-by the Buffet Restaurant...hopefully this will be completed very soon. We all look forward to the this unique dining experience once this restaurant re-opens in its new location. In the meantime you will enjoy the other specialty restaurants. Try them all....but make sure you have a reservation...see the friendly staff at the " Guest Services Desk" in the main lobby to make your reservation. Guest Services are also available and happy to answer any of your questions that might make your well deserved vacation more enjoyable.

I frequently read the reviews in Trip Advisor and I am truly puzzled at the number of negative reviews. On our last visit this April we had the opportunity to speak with many other couples, young and older, and we did not hear of even one complaint that was not corrected ASAP. In my observations I see many positives and really not many negatives....and over the years we have spent our vacation times in all of the different buildings that make up this all-inclusive resort. If you do have something to complain about make sure it goes to the proper department then you can be sure something will be done. No sense venting your frustrations to the pool man if the problem is in the building. However, if you want results make your situation known to the proper department. In the main entrance hallway you will se a collection of photos of all the Department you know who you should be talking to if the problem is not resolved. However, first talk to the individuals at the Reception Desk or to the Guest Services Desk.

The past few years we were blessed by having our latest accommodations in the Presidential Suites. These rooms are super...quiet, spacious, great views and excellent housekeeping services. If you have the opportunity and can afford the extra cash you will not be disappointed. The Presidential suites have their own area on the beach that has been set aside to be used by individuals staying in these suites and those wearing VIP black bracelets. No more getting up early to make sure you have a good spot on the beach. We love the salt water so it has always been our choice to select rooms near the beach.

Generally speaking most of the Hamaca Staff have a good basic understanding of the English language along with two or three other commonly used languages. We discovered that a few words or phrases in Spanish will go a long way in starting a wonderful and long lasting relationship. However, if you choose to leave the hotel complex to take a walk along the public Boca Chica Beach you may find the short phrase "No Gracias/No Thank You" very useful as this will end any unwanted bargaining by sales people who are just trying to make a living for their family. For us the walk along the public beach area is part of our daily exercise routine which we find very interesting and safe.

In our opinion "Be Live Hamaca" is the best choice of all the so called "all inclusive beach resorts" in the Boca Chica/Santo Domingo area. So if you are truly looking for the best value for your hard earned cash then try this long time favourite......a special place where you can relax and enjoy your long overdue vacation....a special place with its own safe private beach......affordable and all inclusive 24/7.....with a friendly staff waiting to make your next visit a memorable one....then the best is yet to come!

So.....if things work out for us we will bee you there in November. I'll be the old guy on the beach with the big smile on his face. YOU HAD BETTER BELIEVE IT MY FRIEND!!

We arrived at Be Live Hamaca Beach in Boca Chica and were surprised to see that the hotel is over 60 years old and the paint is peeling off the building. It looked disgusting! The hotel is 3 hours away from Punta Cana Airport and Sunwing only flies to Punta Cana, even if you select Santo Domingo or La Romana as a Destination. The Sunwing brochure says that Punta Cana is 90 minutes away from Be Live Hamaca. THAT IS A LIE! The lobby at this hotel is extremely dim and you can hardly see anything. The lobby bar is gross. The counter is filthy. NO STAFF AT BE LIVE HAMACA SPEAK ENGLISH. It is very hard to communicate with people working at the hotel. Some drinks have to be paid for if you want them. The pools are filthy and they are never cleaned. You never see anyone cleaning any part of this hotel. The hallways that lead to the rooms have black dust balls all over and they have mold all over the walls. NO LIGHTS WORK IN THE HALLWAYS OF THE HOTEL! It is very scary to walk back to your room at night. The hotel is not located in Santo Domingo but is located in Boca Chica which is 30 minutes from Downtown Santo Domingo. The area that the hotel is located in is extremely unsafe! I stepped one foot off the resort and four men from the area came rushing up to me telling me that whatever I wanted, they've got it (meaning prostitutes or drugs). I told them that I was with my family and they told me to come back when my family was asleep. There is prostitutes ALL OVER THE HOTEL!! EVEN INSIDE. There is tons of old men (60-70 years old) with 20 year old local women. The security guards at all doors are in on all of this and probably get a percentage of what the prostitutes make. The prostitutes don't even have hotel bracelets on and they are allowed in. The Hotel rooms are unbelievably DISGUSTING! There is cockroaches all over the property! There was one in the buffet and the waiter kicked it right into the kitchen! There is rust on the lamps and everything is old. The doors don't lock and the safes are full of mold. We had to change rooms because we felt disgusted. The food was unbearable. We ate french fries everyday for lunch because the burgers and hot dogs tasted like rubber. We had croissants and doughnuts for breakfast every morning and the A - La Carte restaurants were completely disgusting. There was no activities for children and our children got easily bored. GOING TO BE LIVE HAMACA IS THE EXACT SAME THING AS TAKING YOUR MONEY AND THROWING IT IN YOUR FIREPLACE! The staff are unappreciative so do not tip them! The entire property is filthy! To get to the buffet, you have to cross a boulevard where there is men on motorcycles circling the area to find single men to sell them women. The shows at night were terrible and we couldn't wait to pack up our bags and go home. DO NOT GO TO THIS RESORT!

Let me preface this review by pointing out that this isn’t my first rodeo. I`m a senior contributor with over a hundred reviews and 300 helpful votes and travel extensively every year; so take what I have to say for what its worth.

You must first understand that there are 3 DIFFERENT properties run by the Be LIVE chain at this complex. 1 Hamaca Garden, 2 Hamaca Beach & 3 Presidential Suites. The Garden is across the road approximately 200 yards from the beach. The presidential and Hamaca Beach are right on the Beach.

This review is for the Hamaca Beach, the better property of the Garden and Beach. Win loose or draw, this is only a 3 Star at best. Its an old building ( likely 1960`s, renovated in 90`s) but a night and day improvement over the Hamaca Garden side. Here`s the stats for those wanting the concise version:

Curb Appeal: 7/10
Room Décor: 4/10
Beds & Linnen: 8/10
Housekeeping: 6/10
Food Quality at Buffets: 7/10
Food Selection at Buffets: 5/10
A’La Carte Food Quality: 9/10
A’La Carte Service: 8/10
Entertainment Shows: 6/10
On Resort Activities: 8/10
Bar Selection & Quality: 2/10
Safe Atmosphere: 2/10
Staff Friendliness: 3/10
Beach: 9/10
Pool: 8/10

Now for the Good the bad and the Ugly: A buddy from work and I paid $1129 + tax to stay here over reading week break in Feb 2013. I knew we were rolling the dice on this place, but I am not a tenderfoot and can have a good time anywhere so we booked. If you fly into Santo Domingo the resort is .5 hrs by ground. If you fly into La Romana its 1.25 hours by ground and if you fly into Punta Cana its 2.25 hours by ground. Be advised they speak Spanish in Dominican Rep and you will encounter multiple daily instances with staff who don’t speak a lick of English (aprox 60% don’t). You might have better luck in French actually.

The rooms are in need of a renovation. Last done probably 8-10 years ago by the looks of the furniture. There was a new 21” flat TV, mattress and linen. The furnishings in the room were beat up a bit but still serviceable. There is a safe which you have to pay $21 US for the week to get the key for. The bathroom had a nice granite counter and Jacuzzi tub. The fridge worked well, but only had 3 beer and 2 pop which were restocked daily. The AC worked well. Too well actually I needed an extra blanket as there was no way to turn the AC off.

We had originally been given a room on the garden side but we ultimately paid $220 Canadian per person to upgrade to the Hamaca Beach side. The rooms are night and day different and that was the only thing that saved this vacation. See my review of the Hamaca Garden for photos and details of that dump. Avoid the Hamaca Gardens at all cost.

The Beach rooms are in the oldest of the properties buildings, but better inside. We had room 411, which had a stunning beach view, but was one of the only rooms to not have a balcony. Enuf about the rooms.

The only sit down dining buffet on the property is in the Hamaca garden side, so no matter which resort you stay at, if you eat at the buffet, its this one. My friend wanted to state he was sorely disappointed with the variety and selection of the food at the buffet. Here`s my take and I`m a fussy eater:

Breakfast: worst meal of the day. Only have bacon one day out of the week. Mostly poor quality sausages and grizzly chorizo’s. One day they had fried bologna as their meat. They make fresh omelettes and eggs to order. There is also a Panini maker. They have the usual pancakes and French toast and lots of breads/ cereal.

We never ate lunch at the buffet as it was too far from the beach so we always ate at the beach snack bar. The snack bar always had: Hot dogs, Hamburgers, fries and the most delicious Caribbean rotisserie chicken. I ate this chicken everyday and never got sick of it. The chicken was only available from 1130 am until it ran out which was by 130-2pm every day. There were lineups for it and they only made about 50 chickens a day. Also on the snack bar was a daily assortment of rice, veggies and beans. Not much of a selection and the burgers were of low quality. People were making salads out of the fresh veggies.

Buffet at supper: I was impressed with the buffet at supper. One night they had all you can eat lobster tails. The following night they had fresh grilled to order T- bones (thin cut). They had made to order pasta usually only a few choices of pastas, sauce and ingredients; but they were nicely prepared. Their pizza was a little plain but ok. I saw chicken masala one night. The quality, temperature and taste of the supper buffet was very good, but selection was limited. Their deserts and breads were done by a skilled pastry chef and were outstanding (hand whipped cream!!)

Now the crown jewel of this place. I love to eat and the A La Carte’ Restaurants saved the vacation. There are 4 on the resort and you aren’t limited in your number of attendances. The 1st few days they would only let you book an A La Carte for the day you went in to reserve it. Consequently you couldn’t get a booking easily on the week end. After the week end they let us book the A La carte’s for the remainder of the week. The food quality, taste, presentation and service at the ALC’s was 4.5-Star quality. We ate at the Brazilian Rodizio (my favorite), Italian/Mediterranean (twice) & French Gourmet. We didn’t eat at the Mexican one. There is also a beautiful floating dock restaurant on the property that isn’t actually owned by the hotel. If you want sea food and a great view you can pay to dine here. After the restaurant rush is done, staff would let hotel patrons come and sit at the loungers and enjoy the ambiance which made you feel you were in a 5-Star. The Beach Snack bar was the only place you could get food after 10 pm. There is no room service at this place and almost no staff after 11pm.

Bars: Not a blender to be seen anywhere so no blended drinks. They had a slurpee type pina colada maker at each bar but with the demand they were always watery. At least the ice cubes were made from purified water. They only know how to make one type of drink here…STRONG! 80% booze and 20% mix. Just enough to color it. There knowledge of cocktails was very limited. Not a mint sprig in sight for a mojito anywhere. Everything was grenadine and pop..oh ya and booze! No top shelf stuff with the exception of the Lobby bar where they charged extra for it.

Now for some other observations:

Its impossible for a lone adult male to go across the main road from the Beach to Garden side in the evening without being accosted by pimps / drug dealers on motorcycles peddling their wares. Our first night there was the only time we actually saw a hooker working at the beach bar. Never saw any after that night. It became immediately apparent that Hotel security is compromised. The guards down by the beach were offering to get us hookers. On one occasion they stole bottled beer from the floating dock restaurant and were offering to sell it to patrons. I only saw 2 video cameras on the resort except for the casino and that was by the shops at the beach. The common hallways were very dark and poorly lit at night. They never seemed to replace burnt out bulbs, which speaks to a lot about their attitude towards deficiencies on this property. Actually the Beach tower elevator didn’t work and you had to use the small service elevator.

The casino is a one way casino. They suck money out of you faster than an ex wife can. I watched slots for about ½ hr and even when people were “hitting jackpots”, they were so small that it was actually a debit.

There was a kids club in the garden part with a shallow pool, a few small games and toddler sized play house. Given my above observations about the lack of safety, I would NEVER bring my children here.

The pool at the Garden is very good and like the pools by the beach, was heated slightly and quite useable. They also had the only Jacuzzi styled jet tub that held about 25 people. It wasn’t hot but nicely warm. On the week end local 20 somethings invaded the resort and set up camp in the Jacuzzi all day while they smoked a hookah pipe and shishima. One thing I found amazing is that they actually allowed glass bottles or glass tumblers & plates in and around the pool areas. This could be a good or a bad thing depending on your perspective. I never saw any accidents or food in the pools.

The beach: The beach in front of the resort is private so locals cant use it. (Good thing too…they use their own beach “Boca Chica” like a garbage dump) Has the nicest sand I have ever seen. Icing sugar! There aren’t enough loungers or cabanas for everyone, most notable on the week end.

There is a protective reef about 400 m off shore that acts like a breakwater and you get a marvelous warm & calm ocean pool of water to swim in. The water is the nicest aqua blue and perfectly clear. Its all sand bottom so there’s nothing to see snorkelling. For water sports they have small Hobi sail boats you can use.

The resort was constantly out of beach towels. They would only exchange them at 4pm. We wound up snagging some and just keeping them all week. This resort is very popular with seniors and I watched in amazement the energy and enthusiasm that activities staff catered to the seniors. Lots of smiles and hugs for their long time residents. The only groomed beach part is directly in front of the Presidential Suites.

The town of Boca Chica is in the middle of no where and is true Dominican Republic. Its pretty seedy even during the day. There are groups of unemployed men on motorcycles wanting to be your best friend and guide for every imaginable want and they are very persistent in wanting to ``help`` you. They’ll follow you for blocks on end. I wouldn’t personally go off resort at night. One time I would recommend going off resort is to Santo Domingo`s Historic district. Skip the organized tour, hire a cab $70 for 3 hours and he`ll spin you around to whatever you want to see and wait for you while you sight see or shop. The oldest Church and Spanish fort in the Americas awaits you.

Lastly I want to address the other reviews about ``Island Wives``. Yes there are always a couple of men & women for that matter, who ``adopt`` a notably younger island wife or husband for their week or two in the Dominican. If this offends you go elsewhere. I saw it, but there wasn’t one instance of anyone being overtly inappropriate. They kept to themselves and were quiet and respectful to everyone including staff. Young children wouldn’t even likely notice it and if teens noticed it, by that age it won`t scar them for life. It was almost always European men and women with the island spouses. I think theyre a bit more liberal over there. By the way the resort was about 70% European and 20% Canadian and 10% US tourists. About 75% of Canada`s representation was from Quebec. Yup lots of Speedos on the beach!

I have now been to Boca Chica and the Hamaca Resort. I would likely not return here. Having said that, we met excellent people and I had fun. If I got a last minute seat sale that flew to Santo Domingo and paid no more than $599 + tax for Beach room, I might return. That’s all its worth. I would not stay in one of the un renovated rooms on the Garden side for any price.

I just came back from the Be Live Hamaca I stayed Feb 1-8. We were a family of 6 adults with 3 diffrent rooms stayed on the beach side. I can honestly say this was the best trip I have ever been on!! There is nothing I can complain about this hotel( and I am a picky person).

- the hotel was gorgeous,
-everything was easy to get to
-Grounds were imacculate
-I always saw handy men constantly repairing things making everything better for the hotel
-everyone was always nice and helpful and cheerful
-the food was good and there was always s good variety
-I loved that the buffet had diffrent themes every night
-the rooms were always spotless and clean

All three share the same beach/pools/restaurants/bars, but Suites is VIP. If you book suites you get access to the VIP buffet, VIP bar (with top shelf liquor) and VIP pool. You also get a private check-in and reservation priority at the a-la-carte restaurants. The rooms in Suites are also better compared to the Beach or Garden.

Any of the All inclusive hotels will charge you for guests , each person is required a wristband I’m sure it’s because of the free alcohol , your guests however will be allowed into the casino, but I do not believe upto your rooms , they have security stationed at all entrances to guest quarters
