Detailed Reviews
I really, really wish I could give a better review. I booked a room 2 days ago for $62. New hotel, free breakfast, great reviews, what could go wrong? Well some things were my fault. I thought I'd just show up before the 3:00 check-in time because at many hotels, it is possible to get a room early. Nothing doing. The receptionists very sternly told me that I had to wait until 3:00. They were rather unfriendly in general. I finally got a room at 3:10. No ocean view, with a balcony off to the side of the building next to a very loud bar. I then asked for an ocean-facing room and would have happily paid for it, but too late. That's my bad. The room was clean but the noise from the bar combined with the bed that's not really a bed (its a pull-out sofa!) was annoying as was the fact that there were no directions for operating the safe (doesn't work like most of them). At least the wifi worked.
The beach is just okay. I arrived on Sunday and so it was extremely busy and there was plastic trash in the water. Boca Chica is a small bay behind a reef, so it is more like a lake. I can see why families come here. It's safe for young children. There are barely waves at all and the water is very shallow. I saw 2 police details and between them and everyone's good behavior, I felt completely safe. Most of Boca Chica beach is public (as it should be, in my opinion), so I'm not going to complain about "locals" on the beach. They have a right to be there. It's just that crowds, blaring music, and bars were not the beach experience I'd hoped for. The hotel's pool is very nice but it closed at 6pm even though it was still light out. Why? No idea.
The next morning (Monday) was fantastic because at 9:00am (after the pretty good breakfast that comes included) I had the pool to myself and nearly had the ocean to myself as well. The water was clearer because there weren't all of those people to stir it up. I swam out to the "reef," something that was possible because of the lack of boat traffic at that time. Its not clear to me whether the reef is natural or man-made. The water was shallow and gentle the whole way but I only saw a few fish and a little bit of dead coral. It was a nice swimming experience but not a good one in terms of nature. There is nothing to see underwater at Boca Chica.
In sum, this hotel is okay but not great. It is probably much better than most of the other hotels I saw because they were older. The pool is quite nice, especially when deafening music is not being played. Training front desk personnel in modern customer service manners would be a welcome investment. The hotel is in a bit of a scary neighborhood. Well, not so much scary as poor, ugly, and trashy (literally, there were piles of overflowing trash). I knew that Boca Chica was a depressed town and it looked the part. My advice is to skip Boca Chica all together if you possibly can and go at least as far as Juan Dolio. If that's not possible, try to go during the week, definitely not on the weekend.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience at Boca Beach Residence Hotel. We have taken note of your feedback and we will keep them in mind while doing the ongoing training of the staff. We are glad that you appreciated the security at all times, security is fundamental for our property. As for the pool, we do have to respect local laws, however we are glad you enjoyed it and we are glad you enjoyed the included breakfast. Kind Regards

A very pleasant alternative to the all inclusive resorts close by.
A new modern suite hotel with private pool and beach access. Also good security so you’re not constantly harassed by vendors.
On-site Italian restaurant is great!!
Plus a complimentary breakfast.
All the staff I have experienced are helpful and friendly.
I will return for sure!!

I recently stayed here to attend a destination wedding where the bridal hotel did not have the greatest reviews. We decided to try our luck here and we were very pleased overall. The LOCATION of this place is a diamond in the rough - it isn't in the safest or nicest area of DR, however for the choices it is the best one. The facility was the most modern, clean, overall comfortable room and bed, nice shower and helpful staff. There is one restaurant downstairs and though I never got to try the complimentary breakfast, we were able to order anything on the menu (or created off the menu) at all other times and I must say the food was DELICIOUS. the pool was very clean and quiet, light music is played for guests. The beach is noisy with a lot of vendors that will bother you all day. The ocean water was nice - very shallow and blocked off with man made parameters so it is not rough seas at all. I wasn't crazy about this location of DR in general, but this hotel is definitely one of the better options.

Thank you for the sincere and helpful review. We are glad you appreciated our hotel and its overall services as well as our internal Restaurant ( open to the general public) . As for the vendors we do keep them far from our portion of the beach with security because we understand that they might be a problem for our guests and thats why we provide lounge beach chairs and sunshades within the secured area for all our guests. Once again thank you for taking the time to share your experience. Kind Regards

I've been staying at this hotel since it first opened. At the beginning, it was great. In the ensuing years, the furniture in the rooms has become badly degraded, bathroom fixtures show wear and tear impairing functionality (e.g., clogged "rain' shower heads, clogged sink drains). Upper management seems more interested in maximizing every dime they take in than maintaining good customer relations. But many, not all, of the employees do care about customer service. The problems, a fear as I can tell, are with upper management decisionmaking. Some reviews commented on the poor breakfast. But that is one area where, at least based on my experience, things haven't deteriorated.

Absolutely beautiful hotel & service. My partner & I stayed one night in this hotel & we will be spending New Years Eve here for a 3 night stay, just 4 weeks later. It’s very modern & sleek with minimal design touches. I completely understand why a high traffic Hotel in a caribbean setting would be decorated as minimally as this. It’s not stuffy and it’s very freeing. Your balcony Caribbean Sea View is all the decor you’ll ever need. The Pool area is gorgeous and gated with tough security. The front desk staff is incredibly helpful & kind. A very special mention to Browny for his professionalism & attentiveness. I can’t wait to go back in just 2 days ♥️

This is probably the most expensive hotel in Boca Chica. I've been staying there regularly through the years, since they first opened. At the beginning, it was worth the price. The ensuing years have brought a decline in the facilities, but an increase in prices. There are problems with the plumbing (drains don't drain, toilets refilling continuously), and the air conditioning (now weak). The pool looks shabby now. Management not only falls short on maintenance, but also on customer service. I kept hoping they'd get their act together, but that has not happened. I'm not going back. It's no longer worth the cost.

Mi wife and I were there for the night of January 21, 2023. We made reservation 4 day before, arrived at 4:30 PM and must to wait more than 30 minutes for the room. The front desk employee don´t have any idea what is customer service.´They said the room was being reviwing.
TV without signal, no bath soap, etc. Bath floor is dirty or has fungus. The room doesn´t have blackout curtain.
The furniture is of poor quality and some of it is getting damaged, like in the bathroom where part of the plastic sheeting has been removed and another is peeling off. Same thing in the clothes closet.
I wrote them that night, without answer up to know.

Attention! Don't book!!! The hotel is a construction site. Two days before, they wrote to us saying they were looking forward to seeing us...when we got there: construction site, no room. We wanted to spend two days on holiday in the Caribbean after a cruise! No one at the construction site could help us find another hotel. The joy of our holiday was gone.

On the boca beach residence you will be safe. Outside and in the surrounding areas will be different. Move cautious. Dont act like tourists. Move with minimal bags and flashy stuff... dont be scared just be cautious. As everywhere else. Be aware. There are lots of tourists and visitors in the area and certain locals would like to take advantage. Like raising prices etc.
Sure. Discreetly. 😉
NO it is not. they have security and if you don't have the bracelet on they give you during check in you can not have a guest come up to your room. They do allow the guest to sit with you outside in the pool area or restaurant, but not up to the room.
