I bought a red letter stay bed, breakfast and dinner. I really wish I had not bothered. The delicious menu on their website simply doesn't exist! The lovely starters of smoked duck breast, moules marinierre etc have been replaced with bread with poor quality olives, bread with tomato soup, or bread with hummus! Not surprisingly its claim to 2 rosettes is untrue. Apart from the eggs, the cooked breakfast was cold. Eggs benedict was served with bacon which was cold and grey looking. despite covid regulations,we were left to serve our own orange juice! The breakfast restaurant manager was very rude to us both after we pointed out that we could not eat the cold fried breakfast .we explained to the manager the problems we had had and his reaction was simply to disbelieve our comments to him. Needlessly say it was all covids fault! An important message was left on the Hotel answer phone as the staff do not answer the phone The message was never passed on to us. This was a every disappointing experience, one we will not be repeating.

WHAT IT IS. Built 1846 for the Marquesses of Londonderry. Currently a hotel and spa. WHAT TO SEE. Lobby, reading / tea room, chapel, dining rooms and a greenhouse bar. Walk northwest across the estate and you'll reach a cafe, which is also the entrance to The Gardens. Ticketed.

All staff are extremely helpful and welcoming. Dinner in the restaurant was excellent and so was breakfast. Our room was comfortable and well equipped. The location is absolutely stunning, beautiful grounds and a great farm shop. The only small complaint is that the restaurant staff would benefit from some more training but they all make up for that with their happy and willing attitudes.

We recently stayed at Maplewood Cottage one of the self-contained units, part of Wynyard Hall Hotel. We were so happy to be able to get away after everything that everyone has been through over the last year or so. The property promised a stay that was relatively close by, for us; self contained stay and a hot tub. It delivered on all of this but fell short on what I would expect for a four star property. On arrival there were signs that the property were not as clean as it could be, something I definitely would not expect in the current climate. Some highlights / lowlights: welcome mat not vacuumed, cottage felt unaired (unsurprising when you realise that all windows are painted shut and you don’t have keys for patio door in living room), keys that weren’t able to unlock main door, light pull in en-suite coming off on our hands, broken lampshade, smashed fittings in family bathroom / shower, no lights in cooker hood, no working hinges on oven door, tired and dated kitchen, joints on the worktop that are so loose I almost lost a nail, no dishwasher (and no washing up liquid) - this last point was rectified on the second day, when washing up liquid was brought along with the dirtiest face flannel I have ever encountered (photo included) - presumably meant to be used on dishes (it was not, we went out and bought our own), dubious stains and marks on upholstery and carpets, extremely badly marked carpet in double with no en-suite partially covered with wardrobe, dead insects on windowsills (that had been there for a while) and stained net curtains, towels provided yellowing and tatty, no working lights in hot tub and finally on check out day, no hot water. I’m only able to attach ten photos for a TripAdvisor review, but could have provided more! With months where this property has not been able to welcome guests, to not have taken the time to improve and for it not to be clean is extremely disappointing. The rack rate for this property is double what we paid as part of a special offer, and that frankly felt like too much. Such a shame as such a beautiful setting.
