My review is longer in coming than it should be so it pre-dates the date on the review. There is very little on Isla de Juventud, but this is the thing that makes it worth going to. The diving is fantastic and pristine, like the Caymans were 20+ years ago before all the tourists ruined the coral. The equipment and...

Spacious rooms, especially the ones outside the main building, a/c not adjustable (advice from houseboy: when it's too cold, simply wake up, switch it off, when too hot, wake up and switch it on!) breakfast is kinda okay-ish, dinner is gross (one evening they forgot to turn on the heaters under the serving dishes, so when we came in, the...

I spent almost two weeks at this hotel in Feb 2013 for diving. The Hotel: The hotel is spacious, in a REMOTE location on a remote island. Don't expect a lot of action here. There are no other bars or places to go to. The hotel has a bar that overlooks the pool. The drive from the ferry to the...

I usually spend the summer diving in Punta Frances, and the Colony is the only place to get access to the reefs. The hotel, like most in Cuba was really nice, but has suffered from lack of materials and the isolation of the embargo, and is in bad need of updating. The staf, howeever, are fantastic, and certainly do their...

Staying here for the diving is a superb choice. The staff are friendly, many of them have been there a lot of years and they really care. The views are astonishing, the beach is unspoiled and deserted and there's NOTHING for miles. This is proper paradise and has been flooded in hurricanes so a lot of it is new. We...

We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights and spent one day out diving & snorkelling. The dive excursion was good however the experience of renting the equipment seemed to be a bit too relaxed with the staff not really checking that everything fit and worked okay. The hotel was okay but we didn't have hot water for the first...

If you want to dive, the El Colony is perfect (nice staff, perfect possibilities, nice rooms). If not, you're lost. There's no restaurant or town or somewere to go or eat nearer than 40 km (about 45 min. with a taxi, 20 Euro). At Weekends in Summer there are a lot of local people at the pool with loud music....

We stayed at El Colony for 5 days in February, essentially for 2 of us to dive and the other 2 to relax and take some sun. We were surprised how empty the hotel was, given that February is the ideal time to visit the island. As a result there was not much ambiance at the hotel as the only...

“The hotel itself is amazingly well kept, clean and tidy. Considering that they don't have many guests. Bungalow Locations FYI:- Bungalows 130/131/132/133 are all fairly near the pool and bar area. I stayed in 130 and it could be noisy even when guest numbers are low. Staff enjoy shouting when communicating day and night. Bungalows 136 (136 is at the end of the main block) to 153 (153 is at the end of this run and resort) are the ones to request. If you're looking to be as far away from the pool area and just read a book in silence with an ocean/beach view then 153 is yours! 152 is its neighbour and they are semidetached buildings.”
