We stayed in four hotels on our trip to Costa Rica and this was by far the most elegant. The property is beautiful. The grounds well manicured. The room was clean and modern. No A/C in our room but we really didn't need it. Temps were pleasant and cool at night. We were able to open a small vent-like window...

Despite much rain, we enjoyed Monteverde tremendously, and this high-end hotel is well-located in the middle of it. Hotel: very friendly and efficient service, lots of help with selecting and reserving local tours, good restaurants. Rooms: large, new, inviting. We enjoyed the bar (happy hour!) every day and rested by the pool. One downside: rooms are up the hill and...

As the previous reviewers have covered the main topics, will limit myself to what we liked/disliked: 1.) We stayed in the 500 building, and the views were quite nice. About a 10 minute walk to breakfast, but pretty steep going back to room. This building is convenient in that it is near the evening restaurant, spa, pool, and small (I...

A resort accomodation with pools & spa and a spectacular view from each room. The buildings are at different levels going up the mountainside which offers each room a wonderful view and at the top was the best feature, a canopy zip line. The road to Monteverde is rough and this was our reward. The breakfast buffett was excellent and...

El Establo is a pleasant hotel and good base of touring around Monteverde. It's located on the main road and is convenient to the "center" of town. It was easy to reserve our room via email. We stayed with two sons (ages 7 and 8) in one of the loft family suites and found it very comfortable - there was...

The road to get to Monteverde shouldn't be called a road. Its more of a gravel path that will make your teeth rattle. But if you make the trek, the hotel is a nice reward. I don't know how they get mirrors, porcelain sinks and glass shower doors up the road without cracking, but they do. The room was spacious...

Beautiful complex and great breakfast buffet. So many choices and with custom touches like eggs made to order or omelettes with all the fixings. Rooms were spacious with rocking chairs for the balconies to watch the sun go down, truly beautiful place. I went to the spa for a full body massage - so relaxing. Staff were very friendly. Highly...

Rooms were clean, but buildings are placed far away from the dining and reception, requires shuttles within the hotel to get anywhere. Sometimes it takes 20 minutes to get a shuttle... The food was poor. It was sad, because they had great presentation but poor quality. For breakfast for instance they served hotdogs for sausages?? I requested an omelete and...

Arrived in the evening after a long drive up from San Jose. The roads leading into Monteverde are unbelievable. Miles and miles on twisty, hilly dirt roads. It's an adventure just getting there, but the views are breathtaking. Warmly greeted at reception and the whole stay was pretty much faultless. Service friendly and helpful. Restaurants satisfactory. Not amazing, but good,...

This is a massive property with lots of cabinesque buildings. We reserved a suite and based on the images online were expecting a split level room with separate bed and seating area. The room we received should hardly be classified as a suite. It did have extra seating (2 chairs) but in sq footage seems smaller than the cheaper, deluxe...
