Hotel Ficus Sunset Suites garners acclaim for its luxurious and immaculate rooms, which guests find spacious and equipped with comfortable beds and striking views. Reviewers often highlight the attentive and friendly staff, contributing to a pleasant and efficient stay.
While the hotel's location is praised for its proximity to the town and safe environment, some guests find the ascent challenging. Despite the lack of a pool and criticisms regarding the gym and air conditioning, many guests feel the hotel provides a good value due to its overall quality and amenities like welcome cocktails and towel robes.

I haven’t even slept here yet, I’m basing this off of the way the room looks and it’s the most beautiful and luxurious hotel room I’ve ever seen in my life. The view off the balcony is absolutely stunning, the beds are made very neatly, as well as they are extremely comfortable. There is a massive smart tv with access to app such as YouTube, Prime Video, Spotify, and the option to connect your phone. There is a mini fridge with water already in it, and it says very cold. The bathroom looks incredible and the entire room is extremely clean. There is no air conditioning, but that is due to there being none in the entire city.

Great location to town to walk into town. Didn’t mind the uphill walk back to hotel. Rooms were large, great views, well equipped, comfortable beds, wraparound deck to enjoy the views and lots of windows. Large rainfall (or hand held) shower with good water pressure and hot water. Excellent, friendly and helpful service by all staff. Included buffet breakfast was fine, not fantastic. Happy hour at sunset was nice. Would stay here again - great value.

Everything excellent. The soap dispensers have a lock that does not allow you to get the shampoo and so on properly. It's very high up. Maybe lowering it a little is a good idea. For the rest, I congratulate the work team. Everyone is very friendly and always willing to collaborate. Very good breakfast. Quite a variety. And the sunset from the Hotel can be seen very well.

We stayed here for 3 nights. Firstly, the gardens are kept in excellent condition, a shout out to the staff who maintain the grounds. It is stunning. Our room was definitely spacious as was the bathroom and we had a balcony high up (room 252 I think) with a nice view. However, I would say that things are in need of a re-furb. The furniture is very dated, the patio doors don’t lock very well and security for this was ramming a wedge of wood against it. And while the shower was huge, our water pressure wasn’t great at all. Perhaps this latter point was more an issue for our room as others say theirs was great. The breakfast was just ok, but thankfully we had things planned so we were up early and just had a fast brekkie but it wasn’t something you would linger over.
The location of the hotel is great, close to town and as there are pavements, unlike La Fortuna, walking about felt safe. We took a bag of laundry to a nearby hostel so that was handy, and we walked just about everywhere. Indeed, we walked back from Curi Cancha as the bus that was meant to stop for us didn’t and it was a pleasant walk back.
Our main issue was on our first night around midnight, someone came into our room. I have no idea if it was a guest or a member of staff who had either the wrong room or assumed our room was empty. I’m pretty sure we locked our door, but it was a scare as I woke to hearing a key in the door and then the door being opened and the light going on. We shouted and they left, but it was a bit of a fright. Staff checked the cameras but of course nothing seen as no camera near our room and nothing else happened so maybe a combination of bad luck but it was unsettling.
Staff were friendly, but the main issue for us was just that the room needed a lot of TLC.

We loved our stay here. The hotel has beautiful rooms in multiple 2-story buildings ranging up a hillside from the road, a short walk from “downtown”Santa Elena. We stayed in a second story room in the building highest up the hill and the view was spectacular! Due west over the town, the forest and the bay and peninsula in the distance. The rooms are modern, large and comfortable, with large balconies and comfortable chairs to enjoy the amazing sunsets. The restaurant has a nice included breakfast and a fun happy hour. The restaurant is also highly rated for dinner, but we did not think it was extraordinary. There are better restaurants in walking distance. The reception staff is friendly, multilingual and very helpful. The fitness room is very sparse, but that is ok as everyone who comes to Monteverde gets plenty of exercise by walking in the nature reserves.

My wife and I spent the start of our honeymoon here and everything went perfectly. The staff are incredibly friendly and always offering to help and make your stay as relaxed as possible. Couldn’t ask for more.
The rooms are excellent as well, and I really don’t think the photos on the sites do them justice. They are like mini apartments with lots of space, a dressing room, big bathrooms and nice beds.
The location is great, about a 5 minute walk from the centre of town. It is up a hill but it is worth it for its location as you great nice sunset views from the hotel bar

The hotel is situated in the Monteverde suburbs with just a short downhill walk to Monteverde centre. Our room was simple, but very spacious with a small, comfortable sitting area, two queen beds and a balcony looking out across the hotel grounds, from where we were able to watch hummingbirds. Breakfast was served in the light, airy dining room, with coffee and juice, and a good choice from the cooked menu. We chose not to eat in the hotel because of the proximity to town, and instead found a number of restaurants within a short, walking distance. There was also a supermarket in the nearby shopping centre and a bakery just a few hundred paces down the road.

The Ficus is a good location to restaurants and shopping and just a few kilometers from the Monteverde cloud forest. It has a beautiful view. The rooms were clean. We were disappointed in a few things. The biggest complaint is that our room we stayed in had absolutely no WiFi connection. We would have liked to keep the sliding glass doors on the balcony open to feel the breeze but there were no screens. There were a few big ants in the room. The pillows and bed were hard and uncomfortable. The breakfast was plain with not enough options. We had a couple of loads of laundry to do and they charged $30 which we thought was expensive.

Whatever the old negative reviews are saying… forget about it. The new management here is amazing. Jorge and Benjamin were so accommodating to us and went above and beyond my expectations. In the three days they helped us move our luggage, got a big out of our room, called in the morning to ensure if we wanted breakfast that came included in the reservations. They also provided tour information and booked them on our behalf. We didn’t have to stress about what to do bc the suggestions they had were a lot of fun. The beds and rooms are big and comfortable. The views are amazing especially with the sunset. Thanks for making my girl trip memorable.

Our family of three truly enjoyed our stay. I loved our room, especially the spacious bathroom, and wood paneling. We had a corner room, so the view was great; lots of birds and animals on the premises to see. We enjoyed our breakfast buffet and ate several meals in the restaurant without any complaints- I felt like it was a high quality experience. Shout out to Diam, Xinia and Andrea! We loved greeting them daily. I also appreciated being able to walk to nearby restaurants and grocery store. Be careful not to leave food around and lock patio door! We had a monkey open our unlocked but closed sliding patio door and take a bag of chips.

Hi! The best way would be one of the following:
1. Rent a car with GPS and drive. It takes about 2.5 hours from Liberia.
2. Hire a shuttle service which will bring you for about $35 per person.
3. Hire a taxi which will cost you about $200 to bring you up to Monteverde.
You could also take a couple buses but there is a chance that you would miss them and possible be left stranded so I do not recommend that option.
Hope this helps!

We do not own a shuttle but we can arrange a shuttle for you by Interbus, you would only need to provide us with your travel dates and your hotel pick-up.

Hello,
There aren't either though there are very few mosquitoes in this area. So that should not be a concern. Temperatures at night go around 17-18 degrees celcius.
