Cala Lodge is one of the best places in the mountains that I have been in Costa Rica and I have been in a lot of places. The rooms are really comfortable and surrounded with nature. Breakfast is really good with an amazing view to the mountans and birds on the trees. There is a small fun trail inside the property with some hammocks to enjoy a good book or have a great time with your couple. It is really closed to the must places to visit. Don't miss The Monteverde Reserve and Valle Escondido. I would go again as much as I could.
Beautiful place, caring and attentive staff, they even took care of our dog!!! I loved our visit to CalaLodge, my family was pleased with the animals we observed and the service we received in this place! I am definitely coming back, and I would openly recommend it! Way to go!
We stayed here for 2 nights. It's a very nice secluded hotel surrounded by beautiful gardens. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was fairly basic but we weren't in it much so it didn't really matter. Breakfast was included and it was very nice. We also really liked the 'coffee afternoon' where we could sit out on the terrace area and chill out watching the many birds that seem to live around the hotel. There is also a trail which is good to do. There are restaurants within walking distance and we did walk into Santa elena which took about 25mins (which is downhill all the way but uphill all the way back so bare in mind). Overall we enjoyed our stay at Cala Lodge and would recommend it.
We were placed in a "junior suite" upstairs in the main building, and I don't think this room was nearly as nice as the other rooms. The room was large and clean, but the beds were hard, the towels thin, and the air circulation poor. Aside from that, we did enjoy the hotel. The staff was great, and the breakfast served on the veranda was delicious and in a lovely setting. They put fruit out on a feeder to attract birds, so we saw a nice variety. The hotel is a fifteen minute walk into Santa Elena, and we walked back and forth several times. It is safe to walk day and night, but there are some hills. Taxis are easily available and cost about $4 between town and the hotel.
Just on the outskirts and walking distance from Santa Elena...perfect setting. The rooms are quite nice and appear to be relatively new. The breakfasts were excellent and the staff was very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!
