Getting away from it all - at one with nature The Bella Vista in Trafoi is one of South Tyrol's most popular family hotels. Located directly at the slopes, this Alpine boutique hotel offers dreamlike views, a delightful atmosphere, great food ... And very happy families.A traditional hotel at heart, the Bella Vista has been meticulously renovated in a modern style, without sacrificing its rich history. Relax in the Stube parlor and lounge, bask in the warmth of an open fireplace, marvel at the picture-perfect scenery through oversized windows and enjoy exquisite food and wine. A stay at the Bella Vista is a sensory experience that makes the most of Mother Nature's beauty and purity. So we hope that you'll, in turn, make the most of everything we have to offer. We look forward to meeting you, Gustav Thoni, his family and the entire Bella Vista team

Top Gear named the Stelvio pass as one of the best driving roads. They failed to mention the views in the area. We stayed at the Bella Vista for one evening. The hotel staff were wonderful and the food was spectacular.

Post an early morning drive from Bolzano to climb the epic mountain road to the summit of the Stelvio Pass, we descended to Trafoi and pulled into the Hotel Bella Vista. We decided to eat breakfast after a small snack at the summit. The buffet spread included everything you would expect and more. The sunny eggs were perfect, meats and cheeses, and fresh baked goods. The coffee machine “coffee” was delicious and endless. The view from the restaurant was breathtaking. The staff so helpful and friendly. Didn’t stay but I can only guess it would have been first class.

What a find! This 3-star resort hotel run by Gustav Thoeni (of 1970's Italian skiing Olympic and World Cup fame) and his family. The setting in Trafoi near the foot of the Stelvio Pass has a beautiful mountain setting. It is a very comfortable hotel with a lovely dining room. The staff, including members of his family, treat their visitors more like family guests than passing tourists. We booked an upgraded room that had a lovely small sitting room off the bedroom that faced the spectacular snowed capped mountains to the south. The place is not fancy but rather homey and well kept with modern amenities including decent wi-fi. Given its remoteness, it is better to book half board since there did not appear to be any restaurants nearby (though one can choose dinner for any day if you want). The dinner is a 5 course pre-set meal (for which they can make substitutions if there is something you cannot eat). Each night they had wine recommendations if you wanted to order wine. The food was definitely lovingly homemade and graciously served. We loved our time here and would come back in a minute. Note to those traveling with children - this hotel goes out of its way to entertain children including serving them an early children's dinner (at a low children's table ) if you wish. They also have a children's menu.

Stayed one night befored driving the Stelvio pass which starts just up the road. The location is remote and stunning. Room fairly basic but perfectly acceptable. 5 course set dinner surprisingly good, menu in German despite being in Italy. Breakfast good too. Probably fits better for a winter stay but no complaints from us at all

We were a group of 16 cars and stopped overnight at the BellaVista before driving the Stelvio Pass the next morning. The staff were very friendly, the food great and the rooms very good. The views were spectacular with good safe parking for the cars. The staff went out of their way to accommodate our large group and were very helpful in changing meal times to suit us. It's a great family hotel and we would highly recommend it. Not super luxury but very comfortable and definitely has everything you need and a very warm welcome.

We stayed here due to driving the Stelvio Pass and did not know what to expect, however, this stay exceeded all our expectations. The hotel was busy but rather than stay at the apartment we opted for a "basic" room. OK the room was basic, but perfectly adequate, and a big bonus - there was safe parking for our cars. The food was great, though a set menu, we enjoyed it all and breakfast was wonderful with locally sourced produce - delicious. Best of all was the hospitality of the owners of this family run hotel and of course the stunning location. Great privilege to meet Gustav Thoni and his wife. Obviously friendly for children if you have them, with a separate buffet and plenty of activities. Will be a must stay if we travel the Stelvio again.

This hotel is ideal for the Stelvio pass and this was the reason my husband wanted to stay here. This hotel was almost empty and there was only 10 of us in the hotel for the night we stayed. Unfortunately the meal was not to our tastes as basil soup and mushroom risotto are not suitable for us. Breakfast also wasn't particularly good and I ended up eating a bread roll and drinking my own bottled water for breakfast. The view from the hotel was the best bit, but it is very remote.

This hotel was a great pleasant surprise! Own by the Thöni family (Gustav Thöni 4 times ski world cup champion in the 70's). You feel at home at this hotel, surrounded by amazing Alpine views. Very comfortable rooms and an amazing family atmosphere in the restaurant for breakfast and dinner! Breakfast boasts all local foods with amazing quality. Local cheese, milk, yoghurt, bread, meat... Service is very personalized and you always see a smile! If you want to ride or drive the Stelvio pass (late spring, summer and early autumn) this is the place to start from. By the looks of it great place for winter vacation! Has a sauna and a steam bath.

We have traveled all of over the world and have stayed at Hotel Bella Vista with our family a handful of times over the years and each visit seems to completely exceed our expectations all over again. This is truly a special place and my husband calls it his "happy place". The beauty and setting of the hotel is possibly one of the most spectacular in the world. The view of the glacier and the valley simply takes your breath away. The hotel has recently been remodeled and is tastefully decorated. The Gander/Thöni family are wonderful people who will do everything to make your comfortable during your stay. The beautiful restaurant offers an amazing dining experience with the spectacular view and delicious food of extremely high quality. One of the truly unique things with this hotel (and one of the things we perhaps value the most) is how wonderful it is for families with children. In order for the adults to sit down and enjoy a peaceful dinner, all children are invited to eat at the special children's buffet an hour early (again high quality food - no hot dogs here) and are then supervised by staff while the adults enjoy dinner. This way, the restaurant is always peaceful and relaxing for people traveling without children as well. My husband and I had six "date nights" in a row while our children were have a great time playing outside supervised by the friendly staff. There are so many things for children to do and ours are consistently asking when we will go back. There is a playroom for crafts and games and in the summer kids spend hours playing by the shallow man made pond or on the trampoline outside. If you are looking for a place to spend an active yet very relaxing time with your family this is the hotel for you. Again, truly a unique and fantastic experience every time.

I stopped here on a transalp mountain bike trip. It was pouring rain and we were climbing from Glurns to the summit of the Stelvio. Another restaurant nearby did not want to address my food allergies. Thankfully so as I went here next. They totally accommodated my allergies and make a fantastic lunch for me. One of the two best meals of my three week trip. The hotel has a gorgeous setting and would be fabulous to stay at. Staff are wonderful.
