This is the worst hotel i have ever been to. First, the pool is NOT suitable for swimmimg, so it’s acrually a lagoon. Second, the location is remote and hard to find and to acess. Third, credit cards are not accepted. Fourth, the staff is useless, indifferent, incompetent, unprepared and rude. Fifth, it’s very, very cold and windy. Never ever going back to this hole.
We went for a weekend and were really unlucky with the weather the first day. It was cloudy and cold wind, so ended up doing nothing. The pool is so cold so it’s not worth traveling here unless warm weather. But there is actually a gym with indoor pool and sauna for around $10USD in the pyramid that we didn’t know about almost before closing time. We thought of trying it the next day but luckily we god some sunny hours on Saturday so we ended up renting kayaks ($4USD for one person for 30min which you can rent right outside the pyramid). There are also other kinds of boats to rent. It seems like the big pool is for activities while the small pools around are for swimming. There is showers by all the small pools and it looks very clean around the pool and beach area. It was a great experience to do this but I would not recommend to travel here in the beginning of the December and rather wait until the weather gets really hot. In that way; you might feel like all money spent well worth it.…
After reading some of the reviews I have to mention San Alfonso del Mar is not a resort or a Hotel. It´s a condo complex. No matter what website you´re booking through, you´re renting an apartment from the owner. So yes, the building staff is not hotel personnel, their job is not to give you service. Make sure what ever you are looking for is clearly stated wherever you´re booking and or ask your host before arrival. I believe many condo owners live in Santiago, and probably won´t be near by to help you. The giant pool is more of an artificial lagoon, which you can do water sports in, but cannot swim in it. All the residents had their own kayaks for example. Each building had their own Kayak storage near the pool, marked with the apartment's numbers. So ask ahead, because we were unable to rent one (sunday / offseason). The swimming pools in front of every building seemed big enough, but probably get very full in high season. We had lunch at the restaurant inside the complex, there were 3 I believe, but only one was open. (again off season on a sunday) . Lunch was "expensive" but excellent. And the view was incredible. Beach chairs also had apartment numbers on them, so also probably check ahead if you are a large group. Again, the front desk staff was helpful, but they´re not there to help you get chairs ect... There was a "Spa" with a heated indoor pool (great view), Jacuzzi, sauna.. but you have to pay to use them.…
My wife and I came her for a birthday/anniversary trip. The scenery and location of this resort was amazing. I can't say enough about how fun the entertainment staff was to interact with. Shout out to Juan, Roberto, Emilio, Abraham, and Antonella for a great time! Brian/Allison Fraley
