Detailed Reviews
The location is fairly secluded, so it takes a while to get there on the dirt roads. They were doing road construction to pave the roads, but I wouldn't currently attempt to make the journey during the rainy season without a 4 wheel drive.
The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Each cabin stands alone and is surrounded by lush, beautiful greenery. The cabins are air conditioned and well built. There is a nice screened in porch attached with a hammock. There is a large water jug filled with fresh water.
The only downside was a few ants made it inside the room. Once we discovered it, a towel at the base of the door prevented any further ant invasion.
The restaurant served delicious food onsite, but it was a tad pricey.
There is a nice walking trail that goes around the property and to a bird viewing tower.
Overall, I would stay there again and recommend this jungle lodge.

We picked Mariposa Jungle Lodge because we could enjoy the jungle without needing to explain vegan food or worry that we’d be living on bananas for 5 days. Prior to our visit, we were sent a food questionnaire and we can attest that it was printed out and tacked to the fridge in the kitchen. As a result, a vegan breakfast, lunch and dinner just seemed to magically appear.
We booked the honeymoon/anniversary 5-day package and also added on the meal plan. That’s the way to go — there’s no place else to eat within miles and there’s no reason to look elsewhere. Once on the package, you don’t open your wallet while there, which eliminates the commercialism of tourism.
The grounds are as pictured, including a hiking trail. The cabanas are comfortable and well-maintained. The whole place does force you to slow down. The fact that there is not much to do on site is part of the allure. There’s yoga mats, massage by Lilly, light hiking, lounging by the pool (that has a ping pong table and some weights), but after the full day tours really all we wanted was a leisurely meal and the hammock.
Robbie the bar tender makes excellent drinks — on par with or better than big city hotels. Rosa goes all out on the table and room decorating. Someone there on staff, I suspect Rosa, has a Ph.D in napkin folding and towel sculpting. We took a cooking lesson with Norma, which was fun to see how someone prepares all of that elegant food without all the tools that we’re used to further north. We plan to try our hand at her empanadas when we’re home. We’ve been vegan for years and still learned a thing about scrambled breakfast tofu from Norma and Lilly, the breakfast cook.
This is a small resort (only about 6 cabanas) with a lot of personalized attention for guests. For some meals, we had Robbie, Rosa and Norma all to ourselves, and managers (Gladimir and Anastasia) on the property also knew our schedule and were looking after us. For our final evening, three staffers delivered our special dessert to our table like we were royalty. (After they had posted it on Instagram!)
We would recommend this to any vegans and those who love vegans and those just want to enjoy the jungle without being confronted with dietary choices that are bad for the environment.

My girlfriend and I loved our stay at Mariposa Jungle Lodge. This property is located ~30min south of San Ignacio and is a great option for anyone looking to connect with nature in a quiet and secluded environment. The property consists of ~9 individual cabanas and includes nature trails, where you can also enjoy a bird watching deck and yoga deck. There are also quite a few howler monkeys in the area. For first time visitors to the Cayo District, I would recommending building this hotel into your plans for 2-3 nights, but I probably wouldn’t spend an entire week here given the remote location.
Pros:
• Beautiful location in the middle of the jungles, including the opportunity to see wildlife
• Fun property with lots of entertainment options (movie room/library, pool, fire pit, ping-pong/fuseball, bar, yoga deck, nature trails)
• Phenomenal staff
• Amazing food
• Close proximity to Mountain Pine Ridge if that is on your agenda
• Screened balconies with hammocks for enjoying the sounds of nature
• A/C in each cabana
Cons:
• The food is pricey for Belize (Amazing food and large portions, but still expensive)
• I didn’t find the bed to be the most comfortable. Pretty firm.
• As with all jungle lodges, expect to find a few bugs in the cabana
• Wifi signal in the cabana wasn’t great (not that we came to the jungle in Belize to sit on our phones)
Know Before You Go:
• Location: This is a secluded ‘jungle’ lodge ~30min away from San Ignacio. If you’re looking for easy access to a variety of restaurants/bars, then you won’t like this hotel. I noticed a couple tiny bars/food shacks right down the street, but for the most part you’ll have to drive 20-30min to find food outside of the hotel. You would of course need a car for this.
• Bugs: This is a ‘jungle’ lodge. Bugs are just a part of that reality, especially when it rains. We had a few ants and a spider in our cabana. Didn’t bother us.
• Food: When staying at this hotel, you’ll likely want to eat here given the remote location. Food is on the pricey side for Belize and like all hotels, there are a couple fees tagged on (I think 10% and 12%, respectively). Expect to pay ~$65 USD/pp per day if eating all 3 meals here. That said the food is excellent
• Tours: This could be a good hotel to pair with a visit to Caracol or Mountain Pine Ridge as it will shave ~30min of your travel time in each direction compared to San Ignacio. For most other tours you would still need to drive through/to San Ignacio.

Ideal location to be based at while visiting the San Ignacio area. Spotlessly clean, comfortable cabins. Beautiful, well-maintained grounds and pool area. Friendly, attentive staff (including reception, restaurant and housekeeping). An absolute highlight is the food! We purchased a breakfast and dinner meal plan and we got to enjoy a series of amazing, perfectly cooked meals. The chef designed the menu according to our dietary requirements and food preferences and exceeded all our expectations. We went as a group of 11 people, including 5 children, and everyone raved about the food.
A few minor improvements that could be made are changing towels more frequently. Guests are encouraged to reuse bathroom and pool towels for environmental reasons, but the high humidity climate makes it impossible for them to dry and after a day they tend to smell. We left our wet pool towels on the cabin floor to signal we wanted them changed, only to find them again folded on the coffee table (but still drenched!). Also the hefty 10 USD per person fee to use the sauna was a disappointment. Finally, the tours offered by Mariposa are expensive and we were able to arrange them for a much cheaper price by booking them directly with the suppliers (including transfers). If you can, you should rent a car to explore the area as taxis are expensive.
Nonetheless, we highly recommend Mariposa and we would gladly return for another stay in the future. Thank you Mariposa staff for making our stay so pleasant!

From the moment I arrived I fell in love with this place, When I arrived I was greeted with a welcome drink and shown to my room. I stayed in the Orchid cabana which is the first cabana you come to from the parking lot and as a solo traveler I was appreciative. The cabana was clean and cozy and exceeded my expectations, You had wifi both in the room and in the dining area and pool, The grounds are beautiful I wandered around before dinner and took advantage of the bird watching tower. I have to say I saw so many birds there during my stay . One morning I was happy to spot a couple of Toucans . I cant say enough about all off the staff everyone was so nice , during my month in Belize and all the places I stayed the staff at Mariposa were the best, The gardener was kind enough to show me his vegetable garden , he was very proud and rightfully so it was a beautiful garden ,
The one thing I have to mention is the food , I chose the meal package because I was travelling solo without a car, My expectations were I would get the typical resort food ok but not spectacular. Well I was wrong !!! Chef Norma is the best not only was this the best food I have eaten in Belize it was the best food I have ever eaten!! She is the most wonderful Chef , The food was not only Delicious but it was beautiful. I extended my stay an extra night and part of it was I wanted to stay and eat Chef Norma's delicious meals, Thank You to all the staff at Mariposa for making me feel like I was not alone, I felt as if I was staying with family,

We just got back from an Amazing trip to Belize. We stayed 3 nights at the Mariposa jungle lodge as part of the jungle and sea package.Right from our arrival till our departure, we were exceptionally cared for by the staff. The property is in a remote place and offers a very quiet and peaceful set up. The cabins are very clean and spacious. We stayed in the Toucan casita. There are nature trails within the property that you can go on for short hikes. Besides, there is also a bird tower for bird watchers and a yoga deck. The property also has a well kept swimming pool. The highlight of this place besides the property, is their staff. Such exceptional service and care. They go over and beyond to ensure you have a very pleasant stay and accommodate your preferences. The food by Chef Norma is delicious, nutritious, and so fresh! Special shout out to Robbie, and Cevilla for making us feel so special. These two folks manage the restaurant and bar, and charmed us with their friendly nature and service. The office manager Gladimir was also extremely helpful in getting our day trips to Caracol and Barton Creek organized. The full day trip to Caracol, Rio Frio caves, and Big rock waterfall was very well organized with packed lunches, water bottles, and towels for the day.
Our tour guides Augusto and Damien need a special mention for giving us an enriching tour experience to Caracol and Barton Creek. They both are a treasure trove of information and we had some delightful conversations with them while on the day tours.
Super friendly staff, great property and amazing food....will surely recommend this place. Thank you once again for a truly memorable experience! Can't wait to come again.

Friend and I sought a getaway for a few days and this was perfect. No highrise hotels, no elevator music playing constantly, no loud screaming around pool area. To wake in the morning and be able to listen to birdsong and warm breezes blowing through palms was heavenly. Cleanest cabana that I have ever seen. Even in the humidity, no mold, no cobwebs, no dust bunnies. Belizean staff was outstanding. Friendly and helpful. Food was good and beautifully presented.

Spent a very relaxing 3 nights at the lodge. The grounds are beautiful and well kept. Our cabin was very comfortable and had everything you needed including a small fridge and water.
The food was prepared fresh every day. They were so accommodating to everyone's preferences. Robi served us every meal with a smile. The welcome/departure note that was on our menu was a nice touch!

First, just know you will drive awhile to get here and some of it will be on some bumpy roads. We hear they should be getting paved so fingers crossed. Aside from that, your getaway to Mariposa will be everything you could desire for a jungle lodge. The staff is very accommodating and treat you to a wonderful stay the entire time. They always go out of their way to help make you happy. The food is incredible as everyone has written. Order Fry jacks, refried beans, and eggs for breakfast, you won't regret it. Roby and Glad were so sweet to our boys. Book the meal plan it's totally worth it, they treat every evening experience like the most romantic retreat. (We book through the hotels when we stay in places like this--You get a better rate) You won't want to leave to find somewhere else to eat. The grounds are beautifully kept with assorted flowers and lots of hiking paths. Of course bring tons of bugspray. Our cabana was beautiful. We loved laying out on the porch in the hammock and listening to the birds. It is tranquil and relaxing to the core in this jungle oasis. Hi everyone, Wyatt and Henry miss you so much!

If you’re traveling with kids and want a safe and exciting Belize adventure Mariposa is a must. They took care of everything for us so we could relax and experience the sights and culture. Thank you Mariposa! I’m not one to usually review though I rely heavily on them when I research. This was our first big trip post Covid and our first time traveling internationally with our two young kids aged 11 and 9. The jungle was our first stop in our Belizean adventure. Our cabana was clean and tucked away on the property and there was even a pool for the kids to relax in during down time. Glad, the manager, arranged several outings for us so we could enjoy our time stress-free. Norma the chef cooked three-course meals for us again removing any stress from our trip. Highly recommend the meal plan if you’re looking to relax and enjoy authentic Belizean food. Our guides were amazing. Don’t be afraid to explore the ATM cave even with kids. We did it as a family with our amazing guide and still can’t stop talking about it. We visited the food market in San Ignacio and also some Mayan ruins in the area. Our guide Damian was fantastic and extremely knowledgeable about the area and answered all our kiddos questions 😜. During our stay the owners Paul and Aline made us feel like family. The entire staff at Mariposa was attentive and helpful. Our major take away from Belize and this jungle resort is how friendly everybody is. We stayed for four nights but really could’ve stayed a couple more as there were a few adventures on our to do list that did not get done. Definitely recommend asking for airport transport as it just makes everything so much easier when you get off the plane. We will definitely try to come back. Thanks again to everyone! 😁
