Chawton House East has one suite , the Safari Suite in a separate cabana over looking the pool. This room has its own private courtyard and outdoor shower also. It has a queen bed and mosquito net, seating area and out door veranda space. The villa has a generous veranda from dining and relaxing on. Although only 5 minutes from the coast, CHE is a quite, leafy paradise with much wildlife in its two acres of gardens, lawns and pool area. Breakfast is included in the tariff, but catering for other meals is not a problem if you do not wish to venture out. There are a few good hotels reasonably close by and many local restaurants. However, the food at CHE is excellent, with local curry dishes prepared by the staff or more Western dishes which I prepare with notice! Massages can be arranged. CHE is the ideal place to escape the tourist trail, chill out, swim and eat!

We have just spent 5 magical nights at CHE staying in the exotic and comfortable Safari Suite cabana. Overlooking the divine swimming pool we woke each morning to fresh tea and coffee served on our verandah by the wonderful Chandana. After a morning swim we had our breakfast on the verandah of the main house. Breakfast is huge and set us up for the day. From here we planned our days activities. Richard, our host gave advice and information before arranging Tuk Tuks and private transport, always returning to CHE for an afternoon swim, a snooze, afternoon tea. After a cocktail with Richard on the verandah it's time to eat. We dined every evening on the verandah of CHE. Chandana, is an excellent cook and prepares fresh and delicious meals. We spent time in the kitchen learning how to make a traditional Sri Lankan curry. Richard is an entertaining and wonderful host and our evenings dining with him made the whole stay truely unique. CHE is easily accessible to beaches, shops, restaurants. It's a BYO alcohol so bring your favourite wine or spirits or you can pick up from Cargills Supermarket in Dikwella. The local Ascot Gin makes a fine G&T to sip on the veranda. CHE is a totally unique place to stay. Comfort and style made it a highlight of our Sri Lankan holiday

The combination of excellent, inspiring interiors and outstanding hospitality by Richard and his team made it the highlight of our trip. The host is an interior designer, art collector and loves reading so this place is excellent for relaxation around the pool, at the veranda or in the magnificent sitting room with a good book or for a chat with Richard. The food, prepared by Shandana is excellent and the team always anticipated our needs and offered drinks or sliced fruits when we were relaxing in the house. The house is only a few minute tuk-tuk drive from some beautiful beaches but is secluded and tucked away from the crowds around the beach. We can't wait to come back.

I had a very enjoyable three day stay at Chawton House East. The place is absolutely charming, a walled garden of peace, order and tranquility. Richard is a master Inn Keeper. He, assisted by his capable staff, insures that things run to speed and, further, that Chawton House Ease fully lives up to the expectations created by the website in terms of food, room, service, garden, etc. I plan on a return visit in 2018.

I spent a blissful 6 days along with 2 of my friends in Chawton House East. It was everything we could have hoped for and more. Richard, the owner of this paradise guesthouse, could not have done more to make us feel welcome and at home. The space is immaculate, uniquely designed and truly a special place. Richard has fantastic taste in interior design and an exceptional eye for detail. We especially loved the outdoor shower and day bed. We spend many hours lounging by the pool and taking in all the wonders of jungle life. The location is ideal if you want to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, yet a convenient tuk tuk drive to all nearby amenities and beaches. The food Richard and his team prepared for us was the best we best we had during our travels, catering for our vegetarian requirments without hesitation. Using the freshest ingredients from his garden, Richard spoiled us with beautiful salads, curries and cakes. We suggest he writes his own cookbook. However, the highlight of our stay were the evenings we spent drinking wine and enjoying Richards great sense of humour. Thank you for all the laughs and great chats. Our only regret is that we couldn't spead longer in this idyllic guesthouse. We will indeed be back.

Set in the greenery, Chawton east, is a little gem, full of charm and refinement. Richard had wellcome us so well in his villa, that I wouldn't leave the place. Set 1.5 kilometer from the coast, the beautiful beach of mawella is easily reachable with a tuktuk-30 minutes- Breakfast was a real delight, and diner and lunch can be prepared too. I enjoy the dinner, in a peaceful setting, with all the refinement you couldn't even expect . I highly, recommand this place for the colonial atmosphere, the quietness and tropical art of living. Thank you Richard and your team !
