Definitely stay here over anywhere else. Excellent food, heated blankets, comfortable rooms. The ladies that work here are very pleasant and informative. The location is fabulous, very easy to walk to and back from the Roman Ruins. Oh and not to forget the amazing coffee they serve. The best stay in Morocco.

My husband and I stayed here for one night as part of our honeymoon - but I wish we had stayed longer! Our pick-up from Fes and our departure to the train station in Meknes were both arranged through the hotel at a reasonable price, and I booked through email, in which Rose was kind enough to answer my questions. Dar Zerhoune is a colourful and welcoming space - I think we were the only ones there at the time, but all the staff were lovely and very kind. We ate our dinner at Dar Zerhoune - we were very hungry from walking to Voulibilis and back that afternoon (takes about 45 min each way), but we still couldn't eat all the delicious food! One of our favourite features of Dar Zerhoune was the resident kitty - Kiwi was quite eager to cuddle and share our dinner. We loved the quietness and glimpse of rural Moroccan life in Moulay Idriss, and the hospitality of Dar Zerhoune, so we hope to return someday.

This is the place why I got my tripadvisor account. In a less touristy area like this it might be the best way to tell others how great Dar Zerhoune is. Just image having a delicious home-cooked dinner (think of chicken tajine or vegetable couscous) prepared by lovely manager Hajiba on the terrace and enjoying the sunset. Or waking up after a good night sleep in one of the colourful rooms, entering the terrace and being greeted by Jamila, who is about to prepare a tasty breakfast for you. By the way, Hajiba and Jamila speak perfect English and gave me a great insight into Moroccan way of life. I stayed 5 nights in Dar Zerhoune and just did not want to leave. There are wonderful hiking trails and lovely guides that Hajiba, Jamila and the rest of the team are happy to organize for you. They can also organize tours, baking classes and donkey rides if you want to go local – it is fun! I spend hours sitting in cafés watching life go by and especially liked the market on Saturday that sells literately everything from sheep to clothes. In the evening when even most of the few tourists who visit during the day have gone, I was sometimes the only westerner sitting on the square in the colourful and lively little town. Coming back to Dar Zerhoune after several mint teas was always heaven! Thank you Hajiba, Jamila and Rose! I hope to come back soon.

Totally worthwhile detour from Fes. We booked a donkey ride to Volubilis, followed by dinner. Rose was wonderfully easy and helpful and honest to deal with. After traveling around Morocco for 2.5 weeks after our visit to Dar Zerhoune, this was still one of our best experiences and Rose one of the best people we have worked with. Rose arranged a driver to pick us up in Fes, bring us to Moulay Idriss to meet our donkeys, and ride for about 1 hour to Volubilis (while the driver waited for us at Volubilis to take us back to Dar Zerhoune, where dinner waited for us. The driver was a delightful young man who spoke wonderful English. Very, very engaging, making the 1.5 hour (each way) drive from Fez fly by. Along the way, we saw a beautiful, lush landscape. Somehow, I thought of Morocco as dry and desertly. The reality is that the northern part of the country is truly lush and green. We saw fields of red poppies (my favorite) and our driver happily stopped for me to take some photos. Then, we arrived at Moulay Idriss and found our donkeys waiting for us. These animals are happy and shiny with good health. Only warning is that each donkey had a sort of square wooden saddle piled with blankets that you sit on. Rose had warned us that it is not the most comfortable seat and she's right. However, the experience of riding a donkey, along a lovely road, to Volubilis is an experience not to be missed! So, we arrived at Volubilis. It was about 5 PM (Volubilis closes at 6PM during the time of our visit). There was not much of a crowd and within 1/2 hour, all the people left (just as Rose said they would) and we pretty much had the place to ourselves. What a magical feeling! The ruins amongst lush, green, cultivated fields, wild flowers blooming around one's feet, soft slanting afternoon lights bathing these ancient stones, and not another soul in sight, just the atmosphere I had hoped for. We took some fantastic photos, some of the best on our trip! Then, we returned to our driver who took us to Dar Zerhoun for dinner, personally escorting us to the Dar so that we would not get lost. We had dinner on the roof top. The team with Dar Zerhoun made us a wonderful beef tagine and a paprika chicken (by special request from us for our picky eater teenager!). The meal came with all sorts of little messas, aubergine (yummmm!), carrot salad, cucumber, olives and loads of other deliciocities and fresh bread. We stuffed ourselves silly while we watched the sun set over the hills. After dinner, our delightful driver took us back to Fes. It was a truly fantastic day. We'll remember this day always and we hope to return soon for a longer stay. We're telling all our friends to visit here! Love to Rose and everyone we met that night.

We stayed 3 nights at Dar Zerhoun. We ate 7 meals here, including one meal that consisted at what we made at a baking class. We never tired of the food because it’s so absolutely delicious. The staff are kind, skilled, and made us feel welcome but not overwhelmed. The accommodations are simple yet sufficient. The town is lovely. This is a great place to decompress and to get a feel for a part of Morocco that’s not over run by tourists.
