Have not been here for quite awhile, pleasantly surprised at the quality of food. Good selection of food, 6 people 6 different meals all excellent. Thank you. Will return and try the pensioner lunch one day.

We paid two visits to this old pub which has undergone a change of ownership lately. First, for an afternoon drink at the end of walking part of the Cleveland Way, then for dinner. Decent, unfussy and wholesome food complemented by a more than adequate drinks offering. Plenty of locals creating a friendly atmosphere and friendly, keen staff. We enjoyed... More

Dear Katie, Simon and all, Thank you for making our short stay in Great Ayton so enjoyable. We came to really love your town, its history, natural beauty and most of all its people. In one full day we trecked to the top of Roseberry Topping and the Captain Cook Memorial. Took us 5 hours and was challenging in places.... More

This hotel has recently changed ownership and there is a long needed plan to re-vamp. The bedrooms on my previous one night stay were decidedly tired, verging on the desperate, though the breakfast went a long way to compensating. This time I went for an early dinner but when we left at 8.30 the dining room was still disappointingly quiet.... More

Fourth day of an eight day trip and three superb B&Bs so far. Expectations are high. Pub looks great from the outside, but there's something about books and covers.... First of all the service was good, and friendly...absolutely no complaints from a human perspective but the room left a lot to be desired. At least the beds were clean, but... More

Thanks for taking the time to review the Royal Oak. As new owners we have not yet updated the bedrooms. They are a little tired, hence the low daily rate. However, the rooms are clean and hygienic. The room 7 toilet seat was a miss on our part and has been promptly replaced. I am pleased you found the service... More

Busy pub at the entrance but once you get passed the bar area lots of tables. We arrived about 6.30pm. We were encouraged to sit where we wanted to even though there was just the two of us and they quickly cleared a table set for four. All the staff on duty were very friendly and attentive but we were... More

We weren't sure what to expect, but, with the bar being dog friendly gave it a go. Attentive and polite service. Good choices on the menu and tasty food. Great value 2 courses for £10 Chocolate pudding amazing! The pub would benefit from a re-furb.
