Urgently needed a holiday so booked a trip to Madeira because of the weather in November. We found this little gem in various forums and literature and were not disappointed. It is only an hour away from the airport, hidden in the mountains (adventurous trip!) overlooking the sea. We stayed in one of the garden rooms with a spacious room...

We spent 12 days at the Atrio, the Hotel was perfect ! Situated quite high up a hillside overlooking Estreito da Calheta,.There is a mixture of rooms, As it was a special occasion we requested one of the Semi detached apartments complete with four poster bed. The owners have thought of everything, the rooms are excellent, well equipped with Fridge, Safe,...

Great hotel with a great service. Rooms are nice and spacious. Breakfast is excellent, lots of fresh fruit and excellent pastries. Great laundry service as well. Located 8 kilometers from Calheta and 30km from Funchal, so a rental car is required.

They have different types of rooms – small quaint old ones and spacious modern ones with great views. So take care where they put you up. When we were there the hotel-area was mostly cloudy while down by the sea the sun was shining. That comes with the location halfway up the mountains. Because of the remote location it´s convenient...

We had a delightful 4 day stay at the Atrio in mid January 2016. Located on a hillside between Calheta and Prazeres, we had lovely views down to the sea. The Atrio has recently been tastefully extended down the newly landscaped hillside with about 10 new chalets providing some 20 self contained rooms, with four poster beds. The staff were...

We loved everything about this hotel: the people are incredibly friendly. The views are spectacular. The food is delicious and reasonably priced. The room we stayed in was like a home away from home. The location is great for day trips around Madeira and also a (steep) five minute walk up to the beginnings of a flat walking trail ("levada")...

I'll give this top rate based on a lunch... We did not spend the night here but stopped here after taking the short levada walk from Prazeres with two small children. If you do the same, I would recommend to stop here for lunch and order a taxi further. Very nice location, quiet, calm, and from what I could see,...

Atrio is a quiet, sweet little hotel with decent rooms and stunning views. The restaurant has largely decent food. But the lunch and dinner menu is the same and didn't change during our 7 day stay. It is not the largest menu hence it got quite limiting quickly. Staff were friendly and very cordial. This hotel is ideal for people...

We were recently staying the Calheta area and only found this hotel by chance whilst trying to find our holiday villa (the hotel staff pointed us in the right direction) Having received such a warm welcome as two lost travellers we decided to pay the hotel a visit a couple of days later for lunch. Once again the welcome was...

The Atrio is perched at the top of a steep hill above the village of Calheta. It is owned and managed by ex-pat Germans and the central European touches are everywhere. It is immaculate and charming (for instance, L'Occitaine bath products, four-poster bed, a thoughtful selection of teas and fresh fruit in the room). The beds are comfortable and feature...
