The location can't be beat, and the longhouse itself was lovely. However, our small longhouse (#3) came with a door lock but no key, a water heater for the shower but no hot water, a light socket for the back bedroom but no light bulb, and a giant bottle of drinking water but no pump or tilt rack, so we had to lift the whole jug to pour any out. Staff seemed so uninterested in being helpful that we opted to buy our 2nd bottle of water in Masset (26 km each way) rather than bother them when our first jug ran out. It was fine, just felt like $200 a night was kind of a lot for what we got. Five stars for location, two stars for value, one star for service.

What a beautiful spot. We stayed in one of the cabins, which was warm and ready for us with a fire in the wood stove. We stayed for three nights, right beside North Beach. It was an awesome location with friendly staff and great service.

Storm watch, pick-up scallops, surf the waves, hike the trails. All steps away! Then warm up to toasty fire and a hot cup of tea or hot chocolate using the kitchenette. Two bedrooms are cozy for my family (Bunk bed in one room and Queen in the other). A real get away from electronics for everyone in the family! Highly recommend.

I knew it would be amazing, but walking into the surf and picking up three big dungeness crab with a net at low tide in about 5 minutes felt like cheating. What a land of bounty! The rain was gratefully not as plentiful as usual, so we were somewhat spoiled by the weather, too. Next time I will bring a bike and a 4x4. Only suggestion for improvement is that a bit of extra communication would have made a few minor, understandable issues a little smaller. I suspect that the staff was overwhelmed by a busy summer season and could use a bit of extra help. We stayed two nights and had to move from one (nicer) cabin to another one where some basic utensils were missing and the hot water was out of service, but we weren't told about the water until after we had moved. I know it wasn't our hosts fault, but we felt a little bit 'tricked'. Still, we enjoyed our stay very much and would be happy to return.

Very much enjoyed our three night stay in a beautiful little longhouse. It was a short walk to North Beach or Tow Hill and Agate Beach was just around the corner. Lots of drinking water and split wood for the fire was supplied when we arrived. There was (unexpectedly) a small fridge with a little freezer on the porch. The kitchen is large and reasonably well-equipped (take your own wine glasses). We also took a couple of lawn chairs to make sure we had somewhere soft to sit.

We found this unique spot and really liked it. They offer tent pads, toilets and showers. Everything is clean and tidy, the site is well run and in good shape. Staff is friendly and the location is just priceless. Just steps from the beautiful north beach.

Beautiful cozy cabins. Perfect for families or for small groups. Loved the rustic feel without sacrificing electricity or indoor plumbing. The campsite very close to the beach and is only a short walk from the tow hill and blowhole hiking paths. Highly recommended.

At the end of the highway, hidden in the forest and very close to the beach you'll find the small long houses. They have everything you need to have a secluded get-away from your daily hectic life. Beautiful beach and great trails.

We enjoyed one night at Hiellen on our last night in Haida Gwaii. After 10 days of camping and hiking we were thrilled to have a comfy bed, wood stove and shower. Our host was lovely, helpful and went above and beyond. The longhouses are a beautiful and simple design, with all amenities inside - full kitchen, bathroom with shower, communal space and deck. We were welcomed with a cinnamon bun (no promises that will happen for you!) and it was no problem to leave our heavy backpacks in the office hours before check in so we could go on a walk. Clean, comfortable, simple and spacious. We were surprised that linens and pillows weren't provided but we had our sleeping bags anyways so it was not a problem. A bonus was having a gallon of fresh clean water to drink, after drinking treated river water and Agate campground water for a while. Highly recommended for hikers coming off East Beach trail!
