Ecuador is a small country, but it is also the country that has the best places to spend as a family. An example of this is Cayambe, because in my opinion this is one of the most beautiful cities that Ecuador has. This city is located in the province of Pichincha. It is also known as the city of the richest "Bizcochos". Cayambe is a small town, the people in this city are loving, friendly and friendly. Cayambe Mountain is one of the places most visited by tourists, because it is the third largest mountain in the country. My beautiful city can offer the tourist a tour of the waterfalls, they will be able to observe amazing landscapes. If you want to visit some traditional place, Cariacu offers traditional food and a tour to get to know the waterfalls "Gemelas". If you want to know quieter places in Cayambe, the best place for that is "Hostal Loma Larga", in this place you can enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, you can also see animals, for example cows, sheep, rabbits etc. In this hostel you, family and friends will enjoy a beautiful landscape, because from its windows you can see the sunset and how the city lights up at night. The hostel is not expensive, the prices for tourists depends on the comfort they want. If you are young and visit this city I recommend visiting Cayambe Mountain and climbing, from this mountain you can observe three typical mountains of Ecuador these are: Cotopaxi, Antisana and Chimborazo. After this great adventure you can visit the restoration "San Pedro" in this restaurant prepare the most delicious "Bizcochos" Also if you want you can see how they prepare this food, if the weather is very cold you can have a hot chocolate while enjoying a rich "Cuy roast" this dish is Prepared in a wood-burning oven, in my opinion it is one of the richest meals in this country. If you want to dance nn the night or go out with your friends one of the best places is "Akua club" the music in this place is nice, the DJ will make you dance all night, the drinks are cheap and delicious. Also this city is very safe and quiet, if you leave the party very late you can find taxis that take you to the house, the transport prices are not expensive. Well that's all I can say, I recommend visiting this city. I promise you to fall in love with its amazing people, culture and landscapes. All you need is in Cayambe! Come and meet this city.

We paid U$150 Dollars in advance to keep a group booking, only to realize the owner of this hotel decided to allocate some of our rooms to his friends, leaving us without accommodation for half of the group!! I knew this through his employee, who confessed it to me on the phone. I read some other reviews and I can't believe this is a common practice by the owner of this place. The day we suppose to arrive, I phoned the hotel to ensure everything was right, with the surprise we didn't have all the rooms available, so we had to change the plans, itinerary and book another hotel somewhere else at last minute. After many calls and emails requesting a refund for the U$150 Dollars paid in advance, the manager had the guts to even treating us with taking legal action for not showing up!! How dare him, when he was the one who didn't keep our booking! We contacted the Ecuador Tourism Office in Quito explaining my case and our request for a refund. In the end, the Hostería Loma Larga didn't return the money but offered a voucher to stay at the hotel. Who in the right mind would stay at the hotel after such a bad experience? Ecuador is a beautiful country and we had an amazing time everywhere but the bad experience with Hostería Loma Larga, the lack of control and the poor investigation from the Ministry of Tourism left us with a bitter taste. This is not how tourists should be treated. Terrible! Not recommended at all.

UPDATE - AWFUL AWFUL AWFUL. STAY AWAY!! GO ELSEWHERE!!! We visited this place again this past weekend. Our experience last summer had been so good, my husband couldn’t wait to go back. We regretted our decision to go back immediately after we arrived: -my mother had made a reservation for the previous weekend, for 5 adults and 2 children. Because of unexpected circumstances we had to change the reservation for this past weekend (one week later). Management already had a deposit so they said they had no problem changing the date of the reservation -we arrived around 6:15 pm. We were approached by a lady who works there who was kind of nervous to see us. When we entered the house, we found out that they only had 2 rooms with 2 queen size beds. We had a reservation for 7 people. They told us they were going to “help us out” by providing 1 extra twin bed in each room. Fine. But that left one child without a bed. They told us that’s all they could do. They tried telling many excuses: they said our reservation was only for 6 people (lie), they tried to tell us that we didn’t re-confirm we were coming (who does that when you already had a confirmation AND even paid a deposit!?!?!), they tried to tell us many things, even that the son of the owner was visiting and that they had taking one of the rooms that was intended for us (a family room with 3 beds) and they couldn’t kick them out. We were LIVID. After much arguing they said that the owner also has another hotel downtown Cayambe (about 40 minutes away, down the mountain, through a dark and dangerous road to go at night time) and that they could offer a space for 2 people. We told them that was unacceptable. Either we all stayed or we all left. We wanted to take our deposit back and head back to Quito. It was around 7:30 pm when the owner’s spouse showed up, introduced herself and said she could give us “her” room (the family room with the 3 beds) and “she could help us with an additional bed”. It was either that or go elsewhere. Since we thought the beds that were originally in the room were good for 6 people (2 in each bed) we agreed to stay as the extra bed would fit the extra person. Worst decision ever. The room they gave us had a queen bed, a full bed and a twin bed. They added another twin bed and called a day. I had to squeeze is a twin bed with my son and wasn’t able to sleep at all. They didn’t provide space heaters and only gave us 5 towels. After asking for extra towels, they gave us two more towels. - our room had poop inside the toilet - no warm water at all. - floors were filthy everywhere including our room. It was disgusting. -fireplace in main living room had not been fixed since last year so they couldn’t make it go this time. - breakfast was HORRIBLE. Worst coffee ever. They have us a tiny cup (like a espresso cup) of milk for our entire table and when we asked for more they said they didn’t have more milk. The breakfast meal consisted of scrambled eggs (3 people in our party don’t care for scrambled eggs... but eggs made any other way were not an option), 4 small pieces of “queso de mesa” or something like a salted tender cheese, 3 small pieces of ham, fresh juice and 3 slices of an awful tasting commercially bagged bread. The only item worth enjoying was the juice. The rest was a joke. I have to explain they the area where the hotel is located is rich in wonderland dairy products. It’s milk production from the cattle that grows here, provides this region with a very important drive of the economy: milk, yogurt and “queso de hoja” are staples of this area. A nice bowl of “Nata” or a dish with butter is not only expected but easy to obtain. Biscochos de Cayambe are wonderful biscotti like small bread that are also typical of this region. At this “hostel” we got none of these. Very sad that management cannot even offer some extra milk for the coffee. Shame - floor in the entire living room area was damaged. Wood was breaking upwards, which made my husband trip a couple of times and my two sons fall. - guy in charge of horseback riding from last year was not there anymore. He was such a pleasure to chat. - dog poop was sitting in the entrance of the house. I guess no body cared to clean up - trash was piling up in the downstairs bathroom (by main living room). No more room to place trash but again, no one cared. - towel in the social bathroom (by main living room) was filthy. My guess is that they haven’t changed it in a few days... DISGUSTING! Management didn’t charge us the rest of the money we owed for our stay, due to our inconvenience, but our stay had already been ruined and we couldn’t wait to get out of there. Summary: the issue we had with our reservation was due to the owners wife, her kids, her friend and her friend’s kids visiting the hostel “unexpectedly” and imposing themselves over the paying guests. Management has done nothing to improve the condition of the house, pay decent salaries to good workers that could maintain the property (everywhere you look there’s dust and dirt). Food SUCKS big time. We were very sad to have such an awful experience during our visit to Cayambe this year. We won’t be returning to this house, despite the beautiful view from up the mountain. Hopefully the property will be sold to people who are better managers and who appreciate the returning customers instead of making them feel like they are a nuisance.

We were very well received, (family of 4 adults) As there was no one else, our host let us choose our rooms, spacious all with a lovely view. Not easy to access though, the road is really damaged. That is why we really appreciated the offer of our host to organise an excursion with a local taxi to the Cayambe volcano and the Mochambe lakes for a cost of 130€ that later turned out to be 150€. We did not discuss as the chauffeur really went out of his way to please us, and we would have given him a tip anyway., but....you get disappointed... The possibility of organising this excursion really made a difference, as this place is really great but isolated on the mountain, thanks again to our very kind host!!!!
