We had a twin bed room with a double bed in the loft. The space in the loft was good, plus a refreshing window (although traffic is on the highway all night, so bring earplugs). The bed was SUPER comfortable, especially after completing the Alpine Crossing.

The downstairs was dark and cramped. The wardrobe/bathroom and kitchen area is one little corner. The bathroom is clean but tiny; not a lot of hooks or places to hang towels from the bathroom.

The restaurant was convenient and had good food—had a delicious and filling salmon filet; my partner had a delicious spaghetti Bolognese. A little pricey, but there are not a lot of choices in the village. Can get very busy with your groups, so check for best times to eat.

The staff was very helpful and friendly and the rooms were really clean.

The Park has an alpine lodge feel with reasonable restaurant. Sometimes there is a wait to be seated on an evening and the meal choice for vegans was limited. The room was tight for 3 people with a very snug bathroom area but the shower was great- plenty of hot water to sooth aching muscles after the Tongariro crossing. There are electric blankets on the beds and I think in Winter it might feel a bit chilly in the room - the electric heater was a necessity! We didn’t realise the hotel could arrange drop offs/pick ups and would probably have taken advantage of this service. Beds were comfy though and would recommend - just room size might be an issue for multiple occupants.

This was a nice older property with a lodge feel. Our favorite feature was the wood fireplace in the restaurant/lounge area, lit in the morning and afternoon/evenings. Glorious after we did the Tongariro Alpine Crossing! Also nice to have a buffet breakfast for a quick but substantial meal before said hike.

I would caution that our adult foursome in a Family Mezzanine room was quite a tight fit, little space for your stuff beyond the bed, especially in loft area, and with a tiny bathroom; consider doing two rooms instead if you are a foursome. Also disappointed that we were unable to use either of the two hot tubs after our hike, as one was out of order and the water in the other hadn’t gotten up to temperature.

If you’re doing the crossing, they are well organized to support you with packed lunch and door-to-trail shuttle service.

All in all, though: Lovely staff, and good jumping off point for exploring the area.

This hotel is in the middle of a national park, so the surrounding countryside is fantastic, plenty of walks and mountain biking. A lot of people use this as a base to do the Alpine Crossing.
Be aware, taht other than outdoor pursuits there’s little else in this area.
The hotel itself is tired and dated. The rooms are very small and the en suites minute. There’s no room for cases in the rooms really (we had to pile ours into a small table and chair.).
The en suites are so small there no place for a toiletries bag , so they have to stay on a ‘cabinet ‘ in the room, above this cabinet are a few coat hangers… that’s the wardrobe 😳😂.
There are laundry facilities which doubles as a drying room for the hiking gear of residents. Whilst we were there it was inclement weather, this room soon came very full with boots and coats etc vying for position over the dehumidifier.
We did eat in the hotel (very limited other options unless you’re driving for 35-40 minutes) , the food is mediocre. All that said, it’s a great place for getting out and seeing the national park which is amazing.

The Park Hotel provided everything we needed for one night following the Tongariro Alpine Crossing. It was in a convenient location, with a restaurant in house. The room accommodated family of four with small bathroom and fridge with tea and coffee making facilities. Would recommend to those prior to or following completion of the Tongariro Crossing or surrounding walks!

We stayed here for 3 nights.. The room size was ok; but not much place for bags, etc. The ensuite was miniscule.. There were two armchairs and a shelf for whatever, and small fridge.

Location-wise, the National Park Village is not that big, but the hotel is on the main road with a great view of the mountains.

The restaurant has a decent menu, and comfortable seating.

Service was ok, and there was lots of parking available

Price-wise, we thought this was a bit expensive for the quality/size of the rooms; but then, there may not be too many options available

Don’t normally write reviews, but I think this accommodation needs one. As per a previous review I think this is much more suited to backpackers. The room was very dated and the bathroom very old and basically just a wet room. The heating was a portable radiator, the carpet all uneven, trip hazard. We stayed for 2 nights, we asked for the room to be made up on the second day and it wasn’t done. The staff in the restaurant were lovely, but the service was bad, one gentleman got up and walked out as he was totally ignored. Not sure that they were organised. We had the same for breakfast on both days and it cost more on the second day, we were over charged as I checked the menu. I mentioned the issues on checking out and was just told they would mention it to the manager, no mention of me getting the money back from being over charged. Bit disappointing and not somewhere I would return to.

We stayed three nights, in order to spend two days hiking in Tongariro National Park. The Park Hotel is a great facility to serve hikers and others exploring the park. Hotel staff were great - very friendly and helpful, and there were plenty of staff to handle a busy operation. Our rooms were perfectly adequate to support our activities. The restaurant was run efficiently, even when a large group of students came one evening. Food was good, and again service was efficient. The staff at the desk provided guidance for scheduling shuttles.

Stayed ANZAC weekend with the crossing package which included 2 nights, 2x breakfast, shuttle to and from the hike and a packed lunch (also paid an extra night). A really good deal and the packed lunch was great. The rooms are well appointed although the bathrooms are tight with the door closed - shower is nice and hot after a day of activities. Restaurant is good (we ate there three nights) - recommend the steak. Enjoyed the stay and the service and staff were outstanding. Cant wait to return.

Many thanks for your great review. We're pleased you enjoyed your stay and look forward to hosting you again. The Tongariro Crossing Package is very popular, not only because of its discount but the convenience of having all arrangements — transport, lunches etc, — done for you.

Can’t understand the relatively low rating. The room we stayed in was clean and compact, daily room service was good.

The food exceeded our expectations by a country mile, as did the service from the staff in the bar and restaurant area. The beer was good, I love ‘Hazy’ beers and they had a good one on tap, four choices of excellent SVB wine. We had burger on the first night, fish and chips on the second and one breakfast……..no complaints whatsoever!

Free parking.

Close proximity to walking and cycling tracks.

For a remote destination the prices were not on the ‘daylight robbery’ scale.
