We spent 11 nights at the pelican hotel at the end of August, there was no problem with getting a sunbed at any point during our holiday, arrive early or late and there is always a bed to be had.. Towel stations are at each pool so you can drop them in and walk to the next pool and get a clean towel, the stations do close over lunchtime but we alwaus exchanged out towels just before closure.

The pelican hotel is the furthest from the beach and waterslides so providing you dont mind a short walk then it is out of the way and very quiet, the kids club is at this hotel.

Duni resorts has 4 hotels within its grounds and other than the 5* hotel you can eat and drink at any of them, just have your wrist band on show and they serve you with a smile. drinks are all nice and being able to use all inclusive at all hotels is a great touch.

the evening entertainment is amazing, best we have every seen in 20years of holidaying, they are a little funny with you taking photos and videos so be prepared for a tap on the shoulder if they dont want you taking any pictures. they were always polite but they like to keep there acts secret so dont want them on social media.

Food was very enjoyable, we had no complaints.chips available each lunch time and evening, god send when you have 2 fussy eaters! there is the regular foods at all meal times but nothing unusual to an all inclusive resort. the garlic bread was unbelievable

great for large groups as you have so much to explore and so many pools to enjoy. the water asort course for kids is good fun and only a few lev. you dont need to spend anymore money then what you paid for the holiday as so much to see and do within the hotels, watersports are an extra cost but its your choice to pay for this.

the hotel has photographers going round taking photos and you get a discount for the more you buy so worth saving them over a few days and then buying them all together, i think they had 1 week at a time available.

we had a great holiday and will definitely return, but, we would prefer the beach hotel as it is a little nicer, more modern and location was more to our liking. the pelican is a nice hotel but its at the back and a considerable walk (which we enjoyed) but the room was run down and the beds hard..

you will have a great time if you go to the village

We're at the Duni Pelican right now and it's most definitely open! Only been here a day but can't fault it so far. Friendly staff, lovely room, varied food options including choices for our 4 year old, stunning surroundings and a lovely chilled out atmosphere. Huge complex to explore and entertainment all but one night. Really looking forward to the rest of our stay and wondering when we can come back.

This has been our third trip to the pelican hotel , our first return visit since 2015 and what a difference since our first visit in 2014.
The hotel has in my opinion slipped from no 1 to no 4 on trip advisor for a few reasons.

Firstly let's start with the bad stuff :

Food standard has slipped considerably since our first visit, and even if you are first in the queue as the restaurant opens it's nearly impossible to find a HOT meal , Everything is tepid warm . And in my opinion as a chef of 30 years I would consider the temperatures dangerous. The only really hot food available is from the BBQ area where everything is cooked fresh in front of you. We ate here a few times but the quality of the food isn't great , nowhere near European standards
Next gripe is the drinks. The cocktails are horrendous and the beer I'm convinced is watered down , you can of course go to the sky bar and have a REAL cocktail which is chargeable but they are well worth it.
Towel stations are now only open 10am to 12 pm and 4pm and 7 pm I believe . So if you don't get to the pools early then you'll have to wait until 4 to get a towel. (They used to be open all day ).
Cleaning in my opinion is the biggest drop in standards, they used to be cleaners continually cleaning around the pools and the public areas , in fact we used to say it was the cleanest hotel in duni, whether it is because of lack of staff or less time and money dedicated to this essential service , but we hardly saw anybody cleaning and this and the food should be addressed with some haste. A la carte restaurant which you are allowed to visit once per week either an Italian or a Bulgarian . The booking system is absolutely ridiculous , you have to phone the day before between 5 and 7 pm, the phones are constantly engaged and that's no exaggeration I would go as far as to say that they are intentionally left off the hook and I don't know about you but sitting on the phone for 2 hours trying to book a restaurant isn't my idea of a good holiday experience. Either run a proper booking system or scrap the whole thing . It was our 20 wedding anniversary and I wanted to book this restaurant for our "special" meal. I went to reception with my complaint about the engaged phones who put me in touch with Alex from guest relations who told me if I booked a bottle of champagne on the table then they would reserve a table for me. I did then go to see a lovely young lady in the belle Vue guest relations who in fact said I didn't need to buy champagne but she would book a table for me. The meal in the Italian was really good , I would have paid to eat here every night !
Although the bedrooms have had some improvements Tv and entry system the rooms are looking tired to say the least

Now the good stuff:

The aqua park is a fantastic edition to the complex ,only opened last year it's a family favourite. Well used with loads of sun beds and a wonderful pirate themed play park for the younger members of your party. We spent good times here
The beach is looking as pristine as ever. This is a well kept and looked after part of the complex as we're the grounds which look absolutely beautiful .
New modern flat screen TV in the room although would be nice to have some English TV other than the news
Loved the new coffee shop down by the aqua park which isn't included in the all inclusive, great coffee and snicker shakes. Reasonable too about £6 for the three drinks and a waffle although the guy serving almost didn't want to serve us saying it wasn't free etc . Wasn't till I got my wallet out that the language barrier disappeared :) but you get a nice big Cappuccino in a large cup , unfortunately we didn't find it until our 2nd week or we'd have used it much more.

Overall it's a good place to take your holiday , as I said we've been 3 times but I think we won't be going back again. It's good that we had the comparison of the other two visits to see just how the standards are changing, I hope you've found this review useful , if you have any questions you'd like answered feel free to message me.

Hotel need General renovation. Its old and dirty. Mold everywhere. In bathroom and even on food - bread or lettuce:(
But aqua park or pool are quite ok.
Wi-Fi doesn’t work. No Wi-Fi in rooms.
Without investment hotel should be closed in near future.

Met the rep at the airport and continued to the hotel the rather rude and grumpy drive mumbled a hotel name which was not ours! Then someone who spoke English explained that we were not staying at the pelican but the sister hotel, at no point did anyone explain this to us. I booked a garden view room and was placed at the back of the hotel next to the road, asked In the morning if we could have a different room and was told no! Basically it turned into a shouting match (receptionist was very rude) was told to speak to the rep in two days.

We booked the pelican as it was a family hotel the one we were staying at had nothing for kids and the pools were even on different levels. Air con does not work and uncomfortable beds, the aqua park that they advertise was closed! Most of the facilities were closed and when we asked we were told “it’s low season what do you expect”

Very disappointed as I was travelling with my 7 year old son and chose the pelican for all its family facilities complained to the rep who said there was nothing she could do about our room, most of the guests were complaining as they had children with them and again we were not in the hotel we booked, was told but the very rude receptionist that the pelican also has a road next to it so our room there would have been the same.

When we walked up to the pelican the hotel was surrounded by gardens and there was no road near any of the rooms so this was a total lie

Food was nice but nothing for kids and we used the marina beach pool so every time you needed a drink you had to walk to the duni palace, the whole place was like a ghost town

We stayed at the marina beach last year and thought we would have a change as we knew we could use all the facilities on the complex, was taken straight to reception and shown our room which was nice but had a lot of stairs to go up/down so I asked straight away if they had a different room and they changed it there and then without a problem(Thanks). We were in 211b which was close to pool and restaurant, the rooms are very clean and bright(changed daily) Most staff are very welcoming and polite. It is a 5 to 10 minute walk to the beach and marina beach hotel and about 10 to 15 to the aqua park( which is all included in price). With this being a quieter than the other hotel we met some nice people around the pool bar from different countries. Food was good and plenty of selection and you can go from hotel in hotel eating in the restaurants, we have been to the Belevedere to eat a few times and marina beach and they are lovely, chef outside cooking meats,Pasta,Chinese etc and inside all kinds of foods. There is plenty of fruits, cakes etc. The smell of the flowers at the Pelican is really nice as you come out of the room. There are plenty of sun beds at pools and beach the parasols are all meshy so beware the sun does get through them. Entertainment team are good during day with things like Zumba and Dance, beach volleyball, beach football and Aqua aerobics. Drinks and cocktails at hotels are lovely, bars open till 00:00 except Marina beach lobby bar which is open till 02:00. They say that you can see Dolphins in the cove at about 07:00 and 20:00 when fishing boats go out from the pier, also a trip to Sosopol is nice you get no hassle from shopkeepers and there are some nice restaurants there. Off the top of my head it is 35 lev return about £16.There is a ferry that goes to Sunny beach and Nessebar from Sosopol which I presume is cheap as most things in Bulgaria are,Hotel grounds and area are beautiful and look forward to going again next year. If you give a little tip here and there the staff look after you. This is second time here and will be back again Duni is a lovely quite place and very peaceful

Pelican is part of the Duni Royal resort which is a closed resort for guests only. We had the all-inclusive package which we thought was good value (about £2k for 2 adults and 1 child for two weeks in peak school season) as it gave us free use of all the facilities at three of the four hotels (excludes the Royal Palace hotel). So if you want you can just sleep at the Pelican and eat meals use pools facilities at the others.

FOOD
The Marina Beach hotel has its restaurant and bar with lovely views of the hotel pool, beach and sea, and lot of tables in open air. This was a much busier restaurant than the Pelican, but we didn't think the food was as good as at the Pelican.

The Bellville, was a massive restaurant the feel was very holiday camp with tables set for larger parties of people. It was a bit of a scramble for food a bit like 'feeding time at the zoo' and then everything was gone.

We much preferred the quality of the food at the Pelican, its restaurant overlooks the pools, about 50% tables are outside. The menu changed every evening, but you always had the staples of salad, chips, pasta and soup. It was quite international cuisine easy to eat healthily if you wanted and wide selection of vegetables. There was also a BBq everyday.

There are two Al a carte restaurants which you have to book the night before between 5pm and 7pm but if you dont call by 5.10 you probably wont get a table. You can eat at these once each per week of stay. We managed to eat at both in the first week but second week we couldnt get off the beach in time to call! We liked the Italian best, but the Bulgarian was highly praised by others. Service was very good, food lovely.

BEACH
Pelican is only a short walk down a path to the beach. Beach is clean, has life guards and allocated swimming area. Sea was sandy bottom, very little seaweed (hate the stuff), gentle shelved and not deep for some way out, my 7yr old was never out of their depth. Really lovely sandy beach. parasols, loungers and towels free use at beach and hotel. There's a beach snack bar and sandwich bar.

POOLS
We preferred the Pelican swimming pools. It was always possible to get a lounger and parasol, there are 3 pools a tots, small children and large pool, even this was not particularly deep my 7 yr old could touch the bottom all over. Very clean, peaceful and relaxing. The Marina beach pools we avoided, this was the 'activity' pool and there was always music playing and something going on, so not for us. Never used the Belville, but it look
cramped in.

ROOM - Pelican
We had a superior double with an extra bed this still felt a bit compact for 3 of us. Lots of storage space. It had nice views of the gardens and mountains. It was clean but not spotless (but I am verging on OCD so for most normal guests its probably great)! The furniture was smart, not scratched or damaged. There is no iron and you cannot get one from reception so take your own. There is a small hairdryer. TV in room. No drink making facilities in room so take your own kettle if you want a morning cuppa in bed, or I sent hubby to the bar for me!! There was a fridge.

Entertainment - resort
There is a nightly show in an outdoor theatre. There's a kids club, but we never used it.
Massage on beach, exercise classes, hotel beauty spa, jacuzzi, water sports, play areas, disco, etc some things pay for others included in our package. You can have the entertainment or be quiet if you like.

TAXIs
You must use a hotel taxi, or they wont let the Taxi into the resort and you have to walk from the main road.

We're not in the habit of revisiting places for holidays but we would recommend here.

From start to finish we have had an amazing holiday. Transfer from airport was about 45mins and we found the coach really quickly. We arrived to an easy check in and with sandwiches (we arrived early morning) the staff were very pleasant and the grounds are kept beautiful and the staff are constantly cleaning. You are able to use all 3 hotels to eat in, and there is a huge variety of foods to try which are all good. They also cater alot for the kids. There is a great splash park at one of the hotels where the entertainment bar is. Alot bigger than the photos show. We had a great time. There is also a theatre with nightly shows, all of which are worth a watch. The pools are a good size and the beach is only a 10min walk away. Also a mini golf course which was great value for money. We also travelled by taxi to sozopol, he was very friendly and helpful. Old town is worth a visit for shopping. On the beach they do great activities such as jet skiing, inflatable rides and an obstacle course. Also a boat ride on a yacht which was a great experience. Man was very friendly and reasonable price. They also do scuba diving.
All round a great family holiday. We came away with 4 children and a baby and there was something for all of them. The pictures really don't do this place justice. One small note alot of place don't except card so bring cash but all 3 hotels exchange money through card.

I'll start by saying the resort is absolutely beautiful! Everything is pristine and squeaky clean, quiet and peaceful. We arrived at the pelican at 11.45pm. Check in took around 20 minutes as there was only one young receptionist trying to check in 5 groups of people. The receptionists had okay English but made every effort to make sure we could understand her which we appreciated. We were shown to our room and were informed we could get a midnight snack at the restaurant. The room itself is basic but very spacious, large balcony with a stunning view of the gardens and a limited sea view. There was no kettle unfortunately and no bottled water in the fridge but upon request at the lobby bar we were supplied with 3 big bottles of water. Rooms very clean but had a musty smell. There is a tv but there are no English  speaking channels apart from 1 (discovery channel)and no dvd player which is a pain especially if you're stuck in your room during stormy weather or having trouble sleeping. I had no trouble sleeping on the bed, mattress was a little hard but still comfortable. We had an ant problem so we notified reception as we were heading for dinner, by the time we came back the ants were gone. We have another ant issue a few days later and  it seeemed it was a recurring issue throughout the hotel as the receptionist seemed annoyed when we alerted him to problem, from what we understood he'd been getting complaints all morning from the hotel guests but again ants were taken care of immediately. Housekeeper comes by every morning at around 11am, very friendly lady. She came by one morning and we were still in bed half asleep, she left quietly and placed a do not disturb sign on our doorknob which was a nice touch, she came back later in the day while we were at the beach and cleaned everything, clean sheets and towels which we appreciated after a long day.  Food was plentiful, colourful, enough for everyone, it was refreshing to taste new dishes. Their vegetables, fruit and salads are so juicy and fresh, it'll make you not want to eat the vegetables and fruits back in the UK. Plates were cleared away almost instantly at meal times. We weren't overly keen on deserts but the ice cream was incredibly delicious. Staff didn't say much or smile which can make you feel a little uncomfortable and unwelcome at times but they were efficient and hard working. The beach was beautiful and clean. You can use your all inclusive band at all hotels/pool bars/towel station/beach restaurant and bar, snack corners (apart from royal palace hotel) which is handy so you don't have to run back to the pelican at meal times/for drinks. There are supermarkets on the resort which is handy for snacks, drinks, shampoos, toothpaste, souvenirs etc. The beach was lovely and clean and well looked after and was where we spent most of our time. The sea water was so warm and crystal clear which made swimming a pleasure. There are always plenty of sun loungers available. We made sure we were situated near the beach restaurant/bar which meant we were always refreshed and never went hungry. As you can tell the beach was our favourite place. We went on 1 excursion to sozopol and the castle in love with the wind and a boat trip around sozopol (booked via our tui rep) and it was a great day out. There are some activities you can pay for in and around the beach, water activities, mini golf, fish pedicure, scuba diving.  There are a lot of steps to get to your rooms, down to the pool and to the beach so maybe not the best place to stay if you struggle with mobility or have pushchairs. We were stopped a few times by mothers asking for help getting pushchairs up the stairs. Wi-Fi is only available for free at the lobby for everywhere else at the pelican it's 10lev per day which I felt was a bit over the top, also safe in the room is 9lev per day. I'd have thought the safe would have been included in the room price but clearly not. Thankfully we purschaed a bundle through our phone network for £15 for internet access and had built in locks on our suitcases to keep Valuables safe otherwise we would have had to spend 133lev (roughly £65) for necessitates for the duration of our stay. Plus form what other guests have said the hotels Wi-Fi  access is temperamental and slow! Don't leave your balcony door open too long, we had all sort of wildlife enter our room including a bat that ended up hiding in out aircon until we switched the lights off, took us a while to guide it out safely. I know wildlife is our of the hotels control bit just a helpful tip!
All in all it's a lovely resort, relaxing and peaceful, not overcrowded, would definitely consider coming back.

Sorry not sure of a email address. Yes there are towels for the beach and around the pool which you can exchange at the towel station twice a day. I think the bar closed at 12 midnight however at one of the sister hotels it closes at 2am.
