This was our first stop in the mountains. If you want to get here from san jose you can take the Musoc bus station and ask for bus to santa maria de dota. Santa maria is a cute little town that is big on coffee. From the village it's a good idea to download Didi...like huber but cheaper and they can take you 20 minutes up the hill to the toucanet lodge. The owner of the lodge is very helpful. He assisted in tips for future points of interest as well detailing local areas of interest. He has flora with lots of brilliance all around the cabins and the restaurant. You can enjoy the humming birds through the panorama of windows while you have a meal. A near perfect climate as well, cool at night and gradually warms as day progresses. Thanks Leslie!
Wonderful house ans restaurant... ans crazy view of mountains ! Colibris around you while having breakfast and the team very Nice and welcoming ! Great place to stay for a "pura vida" expérience in nature !
We have had a nice and clean suite. Free coffee and tea. Friendly Stuff and beautiful landscape. Lots of Humingbirds witch get feeded right next to the Restaurant. A quite place to relax and to calm down. :D
Described as birders paradise, we looked forward to som great Bording and a lodge we've heared a lot about from other travellers. After a bumps ride from Manuel Antonio we arrived to El Toucanet Lodge. From the start it felt as big mistake. The girl from the reception who spoke english shows US to the room. We had a deluxe room with spa. To begin with the room smells of burned wood from the fireplace in the corner. The spa bath did NOT work and as we tried to use it after a cold, rainy day at Parque Nacional Los Quetzales, a big diasappointment. The water turned cold trin to fill the tub. Another annoying thing is the lighten in the room. 2 small led spots, one on each side NOT lightning the room a all. 2 annoying spots over the bed just pointing down! Terrible work, just one proper central lamp would have solved the problem. The Bulat restaurant are overpriced big time. Even compaired to god restaurants in Monteverde, Manuel Antonio five star hotel food this was expensive. Not even a kettle to heat up water although there's tee bags in the room. All in all a terrible lodge, the nice surroundings loses it's charm with all these elementary flaws. If you're visiting the region then choose another lodge if you won't be dissapointed.…
It is a great place to stay right in the middle of nature. Hospitality was great, and services too. I gotta say though, the breakfast and the restaurant are obsenely overpriced, so I would advice you go to Copey and have dinner there. Also, some monkeys and other small animals will be running around at night (you're in the middle of the jungle), so maybe you'll be woken up by them jumping around your roof. Wifi's not great.
