There’s a couple of minor things I’d pick up on particularly the breakfast being so basic and the same every day: toast, ham, cheese, egg, olives, juice and coffee. Also, I’d like to think I’m wrong but I’m not entirely sure our room was cleaned as often as said as the same top sheet on the bed was used throughout (which picked up bits the longer we were there) and some of our bed sheets looked well used at the end. There’s no brush in the room either so giving a quick sweep wasn’t possible, these aren’t major things really but worth noting. €4.50 for a slush puppy and €3.50 for a bag of crisps may quickly become expensive for families, although you do have supermarkets in the area.
The bathroom is more like a wet room in that the shower does seep over toward the toilet but there are a few extra drains to take it all away - not a massive problem.
Also, I personally think this hotel is perhaps better suited to slightly older children than toddlers as ours and a few others only had the swimming pool to occupy them. In the daily 30-35 degree heat they couldn’t be out all day so a couple of other entertainment options would be nice.
Kephalos itself is minimal, lots of tavernas and restaurants all selling pretty much the same sort of menus. Our favourites though by far were Hippocrates, My Place, Antonio’s and Aussie Grill - the latter being a beautifully run family restaurant where you feel like you’re in your grandparents house. Again in Kephalos there wasn’t a huge amount of options for toddlers, coupled with the heat people could struggle. There’s a small park down by the harbour but that’s at least 30 min walk from the hotel.
Bus service, probably best avoid this and just hire a car. On more than one occasion buses just simply didn’t stop at specific areas (cutting out Paradise Beach entirely leaving people to find their own way back or not bothering to drive down certain resorts as no one wanted to get off - never mind those possibly wanting to get on!).
The busier the week got the more the sunbed reservation brigade came out, despite clear warnings around the pool that belongings would be removed. For a few days we saw the same group put their towels down on beds at breakfast then not come back until close to tea time. Sunbeds are limited here when the hotel gets busy so would be nice to see some towels lobbed in the pool for those selfish types.
Lastly, air con. You will 100% need it and when we were there it was €7 per day - so factor this in.
All in all, I’d happily recommend Zeus Hotel to people wanting to travel there for a minimalist pool holiday but just be mindful of a couple of things as well as the local area itself but with the family running this you won’t go far wrong.
On previous holidays to Greece we have had to pay between 10 and 15 euros for a breakfast buffet, most of which we wouldn't eat, so I dont know why the free breakfast comes in for so much criticism. We were more than happy with the buffet of cereal, bread for toasting plus crusty bread, butter and jams, cheese and ham and boiled eggs. Plus juice, tea and coffee. It is much more than we would eat at home and if you want more it is available from the snack bar breakfast menu for a small cost.
It is the family who own and run Zeus that made staying here such a pleasure. They give you a warm and friendly welcome and work tirelessly to make your stay an enjoyable one. We enjoyed our week here so much that we have booked for next year and cant wait to return.

The rooms are spotless and nicely decorated with a really comfy bed, shower was small but powerful with plenty of hot water at all times.
Nice size pool with plenty of sunbeds and umbrellas.
Lovely bar area with brilliant bar staff (all family members). Outside snack bar serving avwide range of snacks until 3pm. We couldn't fault anything we chose from the menu.
Breakfast is continental style but you can pay for a cooked breakfast.
Best part of our holiday?? The lovely family who went above and beyond to make our holiday the best we have had in a long time.
The Bad!! depending on who serves you the wine measurements varie, but always small and the prices also varie, although its states on a notice board its compulsory to shower to go into the pool, there is no shower, and seems everyone is covered in suntan lotion and sweat I choose not to use the pool,no sunbeds to be reserved unless items will be removed, this does not apply, certain people reserve every morning, breakfast is poor, eggs, sliced tomatoes, ham, cheese and bread, if you want something different you have to pay. Snack bar closes at 2-30 in the afternoon and its cheaper to eat in the restaurants outside with excellent food. The rooms are not kept the cleanest, a notice states towels change every two days sheets every three, we were there 11 nights, sheets changed twice, bearing in mind you sweat a lot due to the heat, air con is expensive there. the bathroom mirror and sink never gets cleaned the tap was covered in mould, balcony never swept. Very noisy with guests going to their rooms in the night, music is always very loud, could say more but lets say will not be going there again
I can not beleive the amount off people they get going back there, year after year, we will definitely not be back, Kefalos it's self is "Ok" I suppose, the beach is nice and not far from the hotel, Kos Town is lovely, Old Town Kefalos is nice too...
The hotel has nothing for children so don't bother taking them here, it's more like an Adult Only, which I like, don't get me wrong but never will I stay here again
Oh and forgot to say when describing the room, we had to hold the shower head up with a sunbed towel clip all week, yes we could have asked to change rooms but when you unpacked you really can't be bothered and this shouldn't be the case anyway, all rooms should be checked and maintained, this is a 3 star on Jet2 but I've noticed it's a 2star, I'm not sure wether it would qualify for a 1 star tbh......
Pool area nice and beds comfortable but the pool itself had a horrible scum water line at the deep end which put you off. Nick one of the brothers who ran the bar was lovely, very loud and made note of ur name on first meeting and never forgot it 🤣even if you hadn’t been in the bar on leaving to go out to eat he’d shout Bon appetite and when you got back goodnight guys 👍the rest of the staff unfortunately were not as pleasant. Sometimes they would speak but not the cleaners 🙄they were downright miserable and god knows why because they never worked in our room other than emptying the bins and even that wasn’t done on a Thursday 😦we had towels changed regularly but the sheets weren’t changed in our 9 nights there. We slept on top and it was the exact same sheet on my bed with a crocheted lace edge all the time we were there. The bathroom floor was dirty and the room albeit it was my hair on the floor it still should have been swept. The breakfast was abysmal but coffee was ok 👍
Would I return ? Yes to kefalos but this hotel only if a very cheap price - I’d prefer to be nearer the harbour next time
To the person who gave Zeus hotel such negatives remarks it is Not a 70s age group only, there were families with young children, family with teenagers and some young men, also couples, you must have been staying somewhere else. Would I say again, yes, most definitely. Thank you Zeus Hotel. Best Regards Hilary
Finally, a question to all tour operators, why don't you occasionally check the truthfulness of what is published on your sites yourself?

All in all, a very nice hotel run by a friendly family.
Rooms: Standard, clean rooms with two single beds pushed together to make a double room. The bathroom is more of a wet-room with a powerful shower. Cleaned often & towels replaced daily.
Pool & pool-area: 16x8m pool with shallow & deep (1.7m) end, plenty of kids playing & also a smaller, shallow baby pool separated by a divide from the main pool. Nice thing about this hotel is there are loads of inflatables left by previous guests for use for all, the hotel have a small room near the toilets where they store them. Slight lack of sunbeds, there were a couple of days we had to go to the beach as there wasn't space at the pool. Half of the sunbeds are also in shade for part of the day which was a bit frustrating if you wanted to be in the sun. There are signs all over requesting that guests don't reserve sunbeds... doesn't work.
Staff: All amazing, some quiet, some loud (Niko!) but all great in their own way, lovely family and can't do enough to make sure you're having a good time.
Bar area: During the day they use an outdoor bar, with a relatively decent snack bar menu including burgers, toasties, pizza, gyros, greek salad. Food is actually pretty good, better than most poolside snack bars, nothing fancy but just what you need by the pool. In the evening, they switch to the indoor bar and it gets quite busy. (Kefalos itself is a very quiet resort and very spread out so no real 'centre' to go for drinks, so i guess most people go back to their own hotel bars.)
Clientele: Plenty of families (we went in school holidays so as you'd expect', with a few couples (50-60s). All brits. Ever so slightly brits abroad but what expected in a 2 star package holiday hotel.
On entering the corridor to our room, thought it was quite modern wth the 'Bright Lights' all along the walls, the room how ever was completely the opposite, very old and dated, bathroom very small, shower head didn't stay up so all week we had to use our sunbed clip to hold it up, there was a gap under the door which we had to use a towel there every night, and there was a light which glowed at night in the room, we had to put a sock over it and it still glowed, very strange......but the WORSE thing about the hotel was the Breakfast, I knew it was continental but this was just an insult, it consisted of eating around the pool, on a table which u had to share wth other guests so felt you had to speak to them even if you didn't feel like talking first thing in the morning, and the choice of breakfast was Sliced cheap bread with one 4slice toaster, sliced ham and cheese which was not refrigerated, boiled eggs and cornflakes, coffee machine which was turned off at 10am and the juice was just awful syrup, if you wanted anything else even water you had to pay for it, I had a coffee on one occasion and had to pay €3 for him to part boil the kettle and a spoon of coffee from a canister
We stayed around the pool just once, there all regulars who go there so are quite clicky, the beach was only across the road which was very nice but was €10 for 2 sunbeds but its worth it tbh...
One possible point was the Cats 🐈 they made my stay palatable
It's not a hotel for children so don't bother if you have a family, which was fine by me as I have no small children and there isn't really much in Kefalos for children
Kos Town is well worth a visit though and the Volcano island 🏝
Avoid Hotel Zues, Jet2 say its a 3star, I've read its a 2star I wouldn't give it a 1 star
