Calcione is a family-owned estate set in the hills of the Val di Chiana, one of the most beautiful areas in Tuscany. We have several villas, country houses and apartments (self-catering rentals), available from March to November, that provide a starting point for a memorable vacation in Tuscany. The spacious and comfortable interiors combine the welcoming atmosphere of antique furniture with all modern conveniences. Unspoilt countryside, swimming pools, two large lakes and a tennis court provide an ideal setting for a memorable holiday. Whether you come in search of art (within a radius of just 100 miles of Calcione, lies 20 percent of the world's greatest art treasures), to celebrate a special anniversary, or simply to enjoy a relaxing and special vacation, you'll find what you're looking for. From the day of your arrival, one of our English-speaking collaborators will be available to answer any questions and make you feel at home. Tuscany's charm is has been widely publicized. We believe Calcione is a special place, where the many pleasant and enjoyable aspects of Tuscany can be appreciated at their best. Il Calcione produces, organically, an outstanding olive oil.

Our friends rented Fontegianelli, which consists of casa della pergola, casa dell alloro, and casa dei gelsi, for a week in July. I stayed in the latter with my husband and we were very comfortable. We loved the tower in our room, which we didn’t really use, but loved it all the same. We had two twin beds that we pushed together. It was fantastic being in the house all together - there were 11 of us total - and we loved the shared backyard and pergola. We would make meals on the grill or in the kitchen and dine al fresco, under the beautiful stars (we saw a lunar eclipse and shooting stars!). It was a dreamy Tuscan countryside experience that I will never forget. We had the most beautiful views from our living space. We loved having the windows flung open (with the screens down), letting the breeze flow through. We had plenty of space to spread out. I had a particularly lovely night where I took a bath by candlelight listening to the country There isn’t air conditioning so if you run hot, bring your own personal fan. Eleonora provided an oscillating fan for us which was very needed but I also used my personal fan on my nightstand. There aren’t many plugs in the room so keep that in mind. All plugs are 3 prong Italian style (but will accept small 2 prong plugs; it will not accept the larger 2 prong plugs from South Africa) so you may want to bring a multi-use power strip or charging cable if you have multiple items to charge. If you need a hair dryer, bring yours or buy one locally because there isn’t one at Calcione. There wasn’t a fridge in our room so also keep that in mind. We used the refrigerators in the other rooms. We also used the washing machine in the other rooms; there are no dryers. If you’re renting the entire house, this won’t be an issue. If I had one recommendation for Calcione, it would be to improve the mattresses and bedding. In our room, our beds felt more like cots than beds. We didn’t have many pillows and the top sheet on our bed was a very very thin blanket. Despite this note, we slept great every night so it’s not a big note. Calcione was a great place for day trips to Chianti, Montalcino, Cortona, and Siena. We had the best time in Tuscany! We loved our stay at Calcione and hope to return one day soon!

This is the third time my wife and I have stayed at Calcione C&C. and each time we have had a fabulous experience. Our Hosts, Olivella and Nicoletta are wonderful - very friendly, helpful and accommodating. The accommodations are charming with all the amenities of home - a terrific way to experience Tuscany in a rural setting & very convenient for visiting local hill towns. If you are interested in an authentic Tuscana experience you must stay at Calcione - we'll be back again - Ciao!

This is a review I've been meaning to write, since I stayed at Calcione over a year ago. My girlfriend and I were hitch-hiking through Italy, when the owners of the castle picked us up. They showed us around the castle and then offered to us that we could use their bathroom for a long overdue shower. They then took us to the small lake at the foot of the castle and showed us a spot by the jetty where we could set our tent. There, by the pristine, forest-edged lake we spent the night. I can only recommend Il-Calcione. The area around the castle, which belongs to the grounds is breathtakingly beautiful, a mixture of classical Tuscan landscape and forests. The castle itself is worth a stay on its own, for those that are interested in the historical side. But what really makes Il-Calcione worth the visit is the amazing landlords, who are incredibly kind people. Also, by staying here you are contributing to the preservation of the castle. So roll on up!

Another perfect visit to Calcione in the hills of Tuscany. The reason we return is that Calcione offers everything we could possibly want during 10 days in Italy. We love the house (Casa de la Pergola). We feed the horses, ride bikes, take long walks through the vineyards and swim in the lake. Short trips to the beautiful surrounding Tuscan villages and towns are easy and always filled with exceptional food, shopping and site seeing. We are also very fond of the owners of Calcione -- wonderful, warm and welcoming. We'll return!

We just returned from a delightful week in Castle Calcione's Villa Noce and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The two bedroom apartment was beautifully furnished and well maintained. I enjoyed exploring the extensive grounds of the property and spending time on the deck each morning and evening to enjoy the beautiful vista of olive trees and lake and forest. We had our own quiet piece of heaven - stargazing at night and horses to greet us (yes bring carrots) in the daytime. And then full days of visiting the wonderful hill towns of Tuscany each day. The hosts were very helpful and especially Eleanora who greeted us and made sure we had everything we needed during the course of our stay. You need a car to get the most out of what the surrounding area has to offer and Google Maps was essential! We found the people of Tuscany very friendly and especially enjoyed the local towns of Luciagnano and San Savinto where there are few tourists. If you select an upstairs villa will need to manage a full set of stone stairs. The upstairs view was well worth the extra steps. I highly recommend this lovely property and gracious hosts if you plan to visit Tuscany!
