I feel this hotel has had a really bad press , I’d read all the reviews before arriving and was thinking what the hell am I letting myself in for . Upon arrival we were shown to our room it was lovely ok it was dated but it was immaculate, it was massive we were over looking the gardens , pool and sea the view was beautiful. The bed was massive and so comfortable. The hotel was immaculate throughout , How people could slate it I don’t know . The staff were amazing so friendly and helpful . A big Thankyou to each and everyone of them Gus and Jennifer on the management side were so attentive. Keeping us safe during a pandemic even nipping to the supermarket for us , so we didn’t have to leave the hotel bubble .Our room was cleaned immaculately every day a big Thankyou to housekeeping. The gardens were beautiful, the bar staff working so hard under social distancing, the restaurant staff were lovely , the food was good always a decent choice . The chic ala carte was beautiful and the food was outstanding. The pool setting was beautiful there was plenty of beds , and the beach was truly amazing .what a beach with beautiful views again plenty of sunbeds the beach bar served a decent range of snacks . Overall the hotel and setting was amazing. Entertainment was good the singers were brilliant . For New Year’s Eve the hotel had set a stage up poolside the entertainment was fantastic., the food was awesome . All in all we had a lovely relaxing holiday in the middle of a pandemic and after one week we were more than happy to book a second week. I’d definitely recommend it to my friends without hesitation . I find it really sad how such a lovely hotel with warm friendly staff in such a setting is getting slated . When I think “ how lucky we’ve been to get away in the middle of a world wide pandemic “ Thankyou to all . We had a lovely time…
We were scheduled to stay at Royalton St Lucia so we were very upset that once we got off the flight that we were going to Mystique. Once we got over our anger, we found the staff to be fantastic, the food good, and I want to reiterate the staff was THE BEST. I gave it four stars due to the fact that (through no fault of theirs) this is not the experience we had paid for. Had we booked Mystique I think we would have given the resort a five because everyone from Gus to Nakita to Nigel were gracious, accommodating, and all around great people. However, the wifi was not great so don't plan on working on your trip (like we had). I also cannot give a fair ranking on value, because again, this was not the resort we paid for.
We have just returned from 13 days in the sunshine. Yes covid has caused problems, but the staff were brilliant. The rooms although in need of a little TLC were kept spotlessly clean. Must admit its the first time I've flushed a loo with hot water but they worked through the night to install a new pump. The food ,although slightly repetitive was good and the staff did their best despite the restrictions. The sunbed towel hoggers were out at dawn but there was always somewhere to sit on the beautiful beach. Was it worth all the hassle getting there and back??? Yes. Can't wait to come back to the island and explore it properly. Big shout out to Les with his sail who took us to brill snorkeling places and let hubby sail and fish with him.
We visited from 24/12/20-31/12/20. I’m going to start with what believe are the plus points- Our room was lovely and not dated at all this was cleaned every day no complaints from us. The food was fine- there was plenty of choice and you could go up as many times as you liked Cocktail choice was very good , they had a menu to choose from which was ample. The chicken wings with the blue cheese sauce at the beach bar where delicious! The restaurants where clean every time we visited. I want to mention the restaurant manager GUS who works extremely hard trying to please everybody. The other staff who we don’t know their names where always very helpful and with a smile as well The beach was stunning with an amazing skyline. The hotel itself was clean and very COVID secure. We where able to go out to the near by restaurants which was a little treat. Memories of Hongkong was delicious, good value and again very covid secure. We didn’t use the pool but it looked clean and other people seemed to be enjoying it. Bad points We didn’t have hot water for 3 days No safe in the room for 2 days I got electrocuted from the switch on the bedside lamp that had live wires exposed and others also had this issue We each had a pair of flip flops taken, one from the room and one from the beach. That aside the worst thing for me was the beach venders! Every day we would be hassled by obnoxious venders trying to sell us drugs. Every day we would say no thank you then they would return and ask us to get them drinks from the bar and food from the beach hut, they would also all congregate around the beach hut and sit on the hotel chairs which was prohibited. To be honest they made me feel very intimidated. I did not like this one little bit to the point at one point I felt like I couldn’t relax. We informed the hotel security then the next morning they where other security guards ( not from the hotel) that patrolled the beach once. We never saw them again. This is the real bad point for me. BUT, we where extremely lucky to have been able to get away for a holiday that we both so very needed and deserved so are very thankful for that. Would we return to Mystique? No but only because we like to try different islands, if we did return the one too I give you is if you are after relaxation and don’t want to be troubled day in day out by drug dealers then choose a hotel that has a private beach. The st lucian people are so lovely and welcoming and the country itself is amazing and beautiful.…
My wife wrote a review last week. Whilst many of our experiences are similar, I would like to share my own thoughts as our opinions differ slightly, although we were both very disappointed with our holiday. As others, I too am extremely suspicious of a lot of the “good” reviews. Since the hotel re-opened, there have been 42 reviews (at the time of writing this). There have been 18 1&2 star ratings and 19 4&5 star ratings with 5 neutral 3 star ratings. I agree that the good reviews indeed appear to be getting more bizarre and seem to be trying to negate problems that other reviewers have discussed rather than actually reviewing their own experiences. Funny how the “good” reviews only appear in blocks after a bad review, and in order to try and counter what is being said. I think trip advisor should make each reviewer supply their receipts for their trips/holidays prior to allowing them to post reviews. I’m only making an observation here, I’m sure you can add 2 and 2 together. I would like to clarify that; the water in the pool was disgusting, there was a huge shortage of sun loungers, the rooms were shabby, the air-conditioning substandard, and the hot water situation diabolical. The rooms had dangerous electrics, and collapsing ceilings. The place was also dreadfully understaffed. Why would guests lie about these things? And would a reasonable person think that these problems are acceptable in a 4 star Hotel? Imagine this as your first day and following morning… You have been travelling for the best part of 12 hours. You eventually arrive at the hotel in the early evening; tired, hungry and in need of a shower. Once booked in at reception, you are shown to your room. You plan to take a shower and head down to the restaurant for a bite to eat and then get a drink to take back to the balcony and have a peaceful nights sleep, ready for the next 14 days in paradise. But, what actually happens is; you turn the shower on and are greeted with freezing cold water – the same from all taps. You think, “what the heck I’ll get a shower later”. You then use the toilet and on flushing you can feel the heat and can see steam coming from the toilet pan. You call reception to report this and they say “oh yes, we know, its being looked into”. Already slightly annoyed with the hotel and thinking “oh god, bad reviews were all correct”, you head down to the restaurant. There is a massive queue to enter the restaurant and you are told (along with other guests) “sorry we are full at the minute, we will take your room number and shout you in when we have space”. You sit for nearly an hour in the bar area, eventually managing to get a drink from the bar after queuing for 10 minutes as there is only 1 person serving. Eventually you are called into the dining area and are given a serviette containing a knife and 2 forks and shown to your table. You ask for a glass of Merlot and Chardonnay and are told to go and get your own food from the buffet. You get to the buffet tables and join the very long queue for soup. 10 minutes later, you get your soup and return to your seat. The wine has still not arrived at this stage. You notice that the serviettes you were given did not contain a spoon. You spend the next 5 minutes trying to find a couple of spoons. Eventually you manage to eat your soup/bread. You then re-join the queue for the rest of the buffet and again have another long wait in a queue for each item you want. By the time you get back to the table, all of your food is stone cold and your wine has still not arrived at the table. You make the most of what you have and leave the restaurant at nearly 10pm – Goodness knows what happened to our glasses of Merlot and Chardonnay. Not wanting to spend another 10 minutes in a queue, you forgo the drink that you had planned to have on your balcony. You get back to your room and open the small fridge to find it empty. You go down to reception and explain the evening that you have had (considering this is a 4 star hotel) and ask for a bottle of water – after being told by other guests that this is where bottled water is handed out. The reception staff initially refuse. Tired, thirsty, and in need of a shower, you ask to speak to the manager. The reception staff then slat 2 bottles of water on the desk and say “is there anything else?”. You walk away, somewhat upset by the first night, but thinking things can only get better. The following morning, after a disrupted nights sleep due to the air conditioning throwing out hot air and rattling , the shower is still not providing any hot water. The breakfast buffet queues are worse than last night. You queue for 10 minutes for an omelette, and then another 10 minutes for toast and then another 10 minutes if you want any cooked items such as bacon, sausages, hash browns etc. You then look everywhere for a sun lounger around the pool. There are none by the pool, and none on the beach. The pool boy reluctantly grabs 2 old sun loungers from a stack and places them at the edge of the beach – however there are no parasols. …This was our first night and morning. Things went down hill from here. The hot water situation got worse. We only had lukewarm water for about 3 -4 nights, thereafter we had freezing cold and dirty brown coloured water coming out of the taps/ shower. The toilet continued to flush boiling water, and the air conditioning didn’t work. The hotel didn’t fix anything throughout our stay, even after complaining to reception daily. The hotel frequently ran out of very basic bar items such as; Cola, lemonade, Gin, Vodka, Rum, Beer, champagne, limes, lemons. I find this unforgiveable as St Lucia has a Coca-Cola production centre in Castries – as well as a brewery, and there were no national shortages of any of these items. These shortages cannot be blamed on Coronavirus. The food was also generally below the standard of a 4 star hotel and the queues caused by the lack of serving staff were appalling. This posed another question - why did the hotel not provide table service as TUI advertised in order to provide extra safety in the current times of Coronavirus? The queues did not allow people to practice social distancing rules. The Hotels Chic restaurant was an experience. The food was generally good, and your wine glass was very frequently topped up by the maitre’d who, whilst very professional, had a very unusual knack of being able to appear out of thin air, like Papa Legba appearing before you with a bottle of whatever you were drinking. However he was excellent at his job and the Chic provided a needed escape from the rest of the hotel. The Chic was the only aspect of this place that deserves a 4 star rating. The reception staff were not very helpful and often rolled their eyes when approached. Each time I went to reception, there were always several other dissatisfied holidaymakers queuing to complain. Having spoken to nearly all the other guests at some point, I am perplexed by the good reviews. Nobody at the hotel was pleased with the service. Everyone had the same or similar problems to us. Everyone was fed up with having to wake at 5am to get a sun lounger for the day – apart from the selfish few who paid the security guard to reserve specific loungers. On the subject of the security guard, he just watched guests getting hassled by the large group of drug dealers on the area of beach that is supposedly for hotel guests only. Having digested all of the recent reviews, this is another frequent complaint. In regards to the swimming pool. To elaborate on my earlier description of it as disgusting. The oil slick that laid on the surface was awful and clearly visible when the sunlight caught the surface at certain angles. The pool boy tried to remove this by placing some chemical in the water. However, several guests who had used the pool that day found that their dyed hair was no longer the same colour that it had been before their dip in the pool and the non-natural blondes were left very upset. I never once saw the water being tested. I didn’t go near the thing throughout our stay. Whilst some staff at the hotel are making an effort, there are huge problems at this place. No one seems to take ownership for resolving any of the issues. Also, management appear to be unable to punish staff for poor conduct, specifically the security guards and rude reception staff. As others have rightly mentioned, the setting of this hotel is great, but my review is of the hotel, not the location. To echo others, this is not a 4 star hotel. TUI and the hotel are miss-selling this place. I would hesitate at saying this place even meets a 3 star standard presently. I had expected a slightly different holiday due to Coronavirus, but the same failings of this place have been occurring for years – as others have suggested, look back at the older reviews and you will see what I mean. Don’t be fooled by the strange 4 and 5 star reviews. If you stay here, you WILL be disappointed and wish you had booked elsewhere. I suppose if you are only stopping a few days, or if you’re not used to nice settings and don’t care about hygiene, you may think that this is an ok place. However, no one in the right mind would give this place a 5 star rating. I notice Brian couldn’t answer my wife’s questions about dates when the hot water/ wifi / other issues would be fixed. Speaks volumes!…
