We found Chateau La Chaire very charming and we enjoyed our stay.
Chateau La Chaire is located on the side of a lush valley surrounded by trees which was very peaceful. The beach at Rozel Bay is only a few minuets walk away, which is a lovely walk in the early evening. There is a car park down the hill from the hotel which is accessed via some steps or a walk up the road to the main entrance. There is a bus stop near by, the hotel owned pub, and Rozel Bay, generally the area seems very quite. We found a hire car useful to explore, the bus was not very frequent.
We also ventured up into the hotels lost gardens. The trail is a basic and back to nature, if you can make the walk to the top of the hill the view of Rozel Bay is worth it, we spotted red squirrels on the way. The hotel should make more of this feature.
The staff were friendly, you get a warm welcome. Breakfast was included as we booked direct, this was very nice with a buffet and cooked selection.

I booked the Friday special and was fortunate that hotels were allowed to reopen the week that we were staying. I don't do staycations that often but I have to say that this felt like a great little getaway. We were greeted by a charming receptionist who went through all the new rules - everything was disinfected, chairs, keys, etc before being passed over. I had booked the suite and it lived up to all expectations. The added bonus was a full sized bottle of champagne waiting for us which had to be drunk in the room but that wasn't too hard to comply with. We went down to dinner at our allotted time, wearing masks which we were able to remove once we had some water to drink on the table. All the staff were fabulous and the food was amazing. We didn't quite finish off the bottle of wine but were able to retire to our room with the remainder. Having to pre-book a time for breakfast we arrived slightly earlier with no problem and again the food was very tasty. All in all it was a lovely weekend - thank you Chateau La Chaire.

We booked this hotel a few days before we traveled to Jersey as our previous booking with another hotel had been cancelled. We spoke to the hotel a couple of times to confirm suitability ie whether the rooms and hotel were quiet. The staff were very pleasant, friendly, professional and helpful throughout. We had 2 superior bedrooms and both were gorgeous. Breakfasts were great. The setting was verdant and felt sun tropical. We were a stones throw from Rozel Bay, a pretty small harbour and beach. We had a lovely time and food was very good everywhere we ate including the Rozel pub which is associated with the hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel for a quiet break. It is very quiet (dead) at night but this suited us as we enjoyed going out for dinner. The Liberty bus and the bus tracker were reliable and efficient.

This trip was to celebrate my husband's 80th birthday so we chose this hotel having eaten in it approximately 13 years ago and we were highly impressed. This was to be a very difficult experience. Àlthough the hotel kindly allowed us to use car park at hotel and they advised they only had one "superior" room on first floor with no lift but they did help in with luggage but not out. What they didn't say was that it was two steps into bath to get to the shower. Very difficult. The house keeping was poor. Once the mark from my head was still on the pillow after cleaning room. The toiletries were sparce as were many things . A sherry etc tray was placed on check-in desh but we were not offered any. The decor in our room was overpowering . I was very old, dusty and dressed blanket on bed was Bally. It was a large room but needed completely revamped. The bathroom was no better with cracked tiles and a leaking toilet which was fixed immediately. I had a job to stop my husband checking out of hotel on second day. The front on house staff were pleasant but over worked from reception to serving breakfast to drying off and preparing outside tables, to say nothing of serving evening meals. On the evening before we left I paid the bill and explained to Sarah who was lovely all our issues and she apologised. I asked if the manager could contact me asap after we left because I wanted to be polite and give him a chance to explain, however one week later and I have had no contact from him, in fact at no time during our week stay did he greet us or even acknowledge us. The food especially breakfast like the toiletries was sparce. There was no acknowledgement of my dear husband's birthday. How disappointing. The hotel is not being taken care of neither inside nor out.......I'll say no more.

Been staying here for over a decade. This time even though we had booked a particular room several months ago, on arrival we were told that someone had extended their stay and we couldn’t have it! Two choices left! Why didn’t they move the current occupiers to another room then? We had booked it out. Secondly, the Chateau hasn’t updated any rooms for years. They are scruffy in parts, even the electrics look like they need work on them. They have stopped doing the fine dining evening meals which was a special experience in the Chateau, and only offer a pub meal down the road. So to get something special you need to travel out. There is no attention to detail around the place, not many staff and sadly this is now lacking in quality and needs much TLC. Ran out of yogurt at breakfast which is a basic, and several items on multiple days. Also little was out on the buffet compared to previous years. When Kasia was there we always felt more pride was taken in the surroundings. Unlikely to return unless we see much seems to have changed.

Response from General Manager, General Manager at Chateau La Chaire
Responded Aug 9, 2024
Thank you for your comments. I understand we had tried to contact you prior to arrival to discuss your room allocation but was unable to reach you until your arrival. Please accept our apologies again for the change of room. We don't always restyle the rooms as we're an old country house but we do constantly redecorate to ensure they are in good order as possible. All our rooms also offer high spec as expected with smart tv, nespresso machines, mini bars etc etc. Much more in the way facilities than many other hotels. As you know we operate two restaurants in Rozel, one at the hotel and the other is the Rozel restaurant, two minutes away. For while we didn't operate our fine dining La Chaire Restaurant simply due to demand. During recent costly economic times there were fewer people wanting to spend lengthy, and sometimes costly, evenings in an A' la Carte restaurant, opting instead for a more casual dining experience. I am pleased to advise however that La Chaire is open and operating once again 5 nights per week as previous for finer dining. I can assure you that all the hotel staff care about it's guests and the business and we all strive to do our best to meet guest expectations. Staff members do move on and we are always sorry to see good people go but the standards come from a team effort rather than just one person so we can only persevere and train new staff members as we go. Please accept my apologies for any shortfalls on this occasion and we hope to welcome you back in the future.

Cannot fault the food but the room and customer service strange. The room The carpet is rotten and coming away from the wall by the bathroom door you can see the floor board mark because it’s so old and thin. The room smells on damp. We had no running cold water when I reported to Sonia her reply was what do you want me to do I have no other rooms. While talking to another couple about the rooms we found out that it was only us that had had no clean bedding after 5 days. They didn’t replenish any shower gel, shampoo or body lotion. Until these was requested. The jacuzzi was loud and kept coming on during the night after use so we didn’t use it again. The the shower head would constantly keep falling during our shower. We have 2 dogs but the was only allowed in the rooms or to leave them in the car. For some reason Hannah fell she should score you out of 100% when clearing the dinner and breakfast plates. When I asked for chips instead of new potatoes sonia wouldn’t let me have them. As a paying customer this is atrocious treatment. You had to sit were you was told. Very very controlling

Thank you for your comments. It is not correct the room smells of damp. It is just a very old house and and might have some historical issues but the rooms are generally well maintained although heavily used particularly in summer. We are a very dog friendly hotel with many guests bringing dogs to stay and you are very welcome to sit out on the terrace for dinner with your dog. It was unfortunate it was raining for much of your stay but like most restaurants we are not permitted to allow dogs in the restaurant unless it's a guide dog. It's wrong to suggest bedding wasn't changed. All bedding is changed after 3 days use. You left your dogs in the room using the pillows and bedspread as their beds on the floor on which they urinated and had to be replaced so we know it was changed. It's also wrong to suggest that staff didn't care because we spoke with you at length. The cold tap simply required a few extra turns and the spa bath turns itself on for 2 minutes after use when empty to self dry the pipes and lines to prevent mould growth. Regards the food and service we really don't restrict where you can sit and are not controlling as you suggest. Tables are prepared and allocated before service but if you prefer to sit a dirty table just vacated then all we ask is a little patience whilt we clean. Nobody is scoring customers so unsure how this has arisen and you would be very welcome to chips if they were available.

The building's charm (though it has been in need of maintenance for many years), the location (ideal for north coast walks) and most of the very friendly staff, will 'blind' most guests to the shortfalls of this hotel or to be correct the hotel's management.
It is let down by the minimum amount of housekeeping in the room, particularly the bathroom, the shabbiness of the room and uncomfortable bed.
In response to this complaint, one of the reasons given was covid! Was the management saying that the rooms were not being cleaned properly due to covid?Of course, Brexit was also thrown in for good measure. In my mind they were trying to defend the indefensible.
It was also let down by the alternative evening meal arrangement at the Rozel pub, which we were not told of until a few days before we were due to arrive. The pub menu is not what one would expect when booking restaurant meals at a 4 star hotel. To make matters worse, as our week's stay progressed, supplements were being added to the pub menu prices? When we questioned this, we were told it was because we had booked half board at the hotel. I still cannot fathom the logic of that one!
Both complaints were responded to by management in the skilled way that they do be making light of the photos sent and excusing minor shortfalls that one would find in any hotel. As I said above, in my mind they were trying to defend the indefensible.
I do hope that they at least take one room out of service at a time and give it a damn good clean!

Bedroom and bathroom a good size. Bathroom needs painting and bath replacing as scratched and jacuzzi not working, which we told lady at reception and apologies were given. I hope it was fixed for the next client as that was a big draw for me as I love a long soak after a walk. Told receptionist that WiFi was working intermittently and buffering and was assured they would look into this while we were out during the day but had to ask again as still not working as it should. We were told it was because everyone was using the internet! Not at 6.30 am ! 1 WiFi bar only in our room. Sitting room next to reception was the only place that had good WiFi but as dogs are allowed in here and I’m allergic it made it uncomfortable for me to stay. (sneezing at this time gets you dirty looks in the year 2020). During the evening meal while most of us in dining room I tried again but still buffering! The internet problem is unacceptable and to be brushed off with such a ridiculous excuse is an insult. Water, tea and coffee in the room with fresh milk in the fridge. Coffee and tea a good quality. We were on half board but found there were supplements on each area of the menu. Same menu both nights which meant if you were a vegetarian you had to eat the same thing. Third meal was at their sister establishment which was the pub across the road. Excellent meal there. Breakfast was good with a range of continental and cooked things on it. Their private car par was not close to the hotel. Iron and ironing board and hairdryer in the room and a T.V We had an offer on their staycation which gave us 1/2 a bottle of champagne on arrival and tea and scone on one day. Not as many staff as when I last came here, this meant waiting in various areas for someone to see you, though there was a bell to alert the staff, not really what you should have in this type of hotel and I’ve not seen it in previous years. I felt this impacted the service or lack of! We had a balcony which would have been lovely if the weather was nice. No pool or spa. Near a lovely little harbor and bay. Good amount of sockets. They wanted us to state a time for each meal and if we wanted pre dinner drinks, not had this at any other hotel in Jersey in 2020, found that annoying as it felt like we were restricted to a timetable not of our making. I know think was not for COVID reasons but to spread out the covers because of the lack of staff. On the second night the room next door to ours was occupied so we realized that the rooms had no sound proofing. Not noisy people but you could hear them talking. This is an old hotel so that is maybe why. Do not come here if you need internet and privacy. I would not stay here again and I would think twice about eating here as the lack of staff meant time waiting for service.

Thank you for taking the time to write such a thorough review. There are a few negative points raised so a shame nothing mentioned during your stay since we may have been able to resolve one or two at the time if able. The wifi is a top quality managed system with access points located throughout the building. This also includes a business solution provided by Jersey Telecom with a large amount of bandwidth. Being a managed system it prevents certain applications using large amounts of bandwidth which may deprive other guests from adequate usage. I suspect this to have been the case on this occasion. Our entire business operation is on the same connection and there have been no other reports of poor quality so difficult to comment further. The vast majority of clients through the past year have been local to Jersey with stays varying from one to two nights only which is the reason for not changing the menu every day at this time. It is usual for the two day staycation package to include one night at the hotel restaurant and one night at our pub restaurant thus having a choice both nights. it is unfortunate if you chose not to do this but we would have been able to offer menu alternatives had we known at the time. Supplemented dishes were available because the Staycation package was a special price. Certain dishes such as lobster, scallops and fillet steaks could not be included within the same price. Our main car park is right at the hotel entrance with a smaller car park 20 seconds from the front door so I'm unsure why you would suggest it was not close to the hotel. I feel sure you would have known we don't have a pool and spa before booking your stay. We have never had this facility so I'm unsure why you consider this a negative of your stay. It is quite normal anywhere to request a dining time for a restaurant but this was also to operate within Covid-19 requirements to avoid larger numbers of diners at the same time to maintain distancing. We are only a small house and we get busy very quickly. This is also true with fewer staff on duty at certain times. We pride ourselves on the quality of our service and can only apologise if you feel we did not provide this to you on this occasion. I appreciate your comments were mixed with many positives but I do hope this will help to explain some of the areas you feel are negative and hope you may consider staying with us again. Kind regards.

The Chateau La Chaire was a lovely little hotel, in a lovely location. It cost approximately £30 to get a taxi from the airport and just down the road a £2 bus would take you into St Helier. It was yards from the beach (and on a clear day France was visible). The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was a good side, clean and well fitted out. My only negative comment was that the whole hotel (room and communal areas) were looking a bit tatty - paint was peeling, there were scuffs and marks everywhere, colours were fading, etc. This is nothing that couldn't be easily rectified by redecorating. Overall a lovely place to stay

We are visiting Jersey for a wedding in Trinity. I checked online for hotels nearby and found Chateau La Chaire. We arrived and were immediately blown away by the location and the building… upon entering we were given a fabulous warm welcome and shown to our room (4). Beautiful big room with four poster bed and huge bathroom with a Jacuzzi. The hotel is truly beautiful, maintaining original features. The surrounding grounds are lovely and a short walk to pretty Rozel Harbour and shingle beach. We will stay here again.

Hello. Although we are just 2 minutes walk from the harbour the hotel is on a right angle to it and overlooks the green valley down to the sea. The balcony rooms overlook the front of the hotel.
Balcony rooms fill quickly for summer as you would expect so please do contact us as soon possible to confirm your favourite.
Hello Mr Adam. Unfortunately, as on old house we do not have a lift at the hotel. I'm afraid also that your room has been previously allocated to the second floor and will be stairs up.
The hotel is 100% full however there are a few other guests within your party who do have a closer room on the first floor. On that basis I'm sure there may be option to make a change tomorrow if required.
Looking forward to seeing you all.
Hello. Unfortunately being an old country house built in 1843 we do not have a lift. There is a staircase from reception to the first floor with 22 steps. Hope that helps.
There are more places to choose from in the Rozel area.
