I loved this camp as it is on the Mandrare River with a village across the river. To lie in bed in the early morning and listen to sounds of the village waking up, roosters crowing, dogs barking, people singing is a treat. The spiny forest is fascinating as is the sacred forest. It is a trek to get to... More

This camp is absolutely outstanding - the location, the bungalows, the activities, the staff, the food, the comfort, the proximity to local village life, sightings of lemurs, etc. We have travelled in Namibia and Botswana and the Mandrare can compete easily with the lodges we have stayed in there. We liked it so much we were actually surpised that there... More

How lucky were we to spend four nights at Mandrare River Camp followed by five nights at Manafiafy and also to be the only guests ( Only because June is low season and not the best time to go-weather was mixed). We have nothing but superlatives about these two very different places. We have to start with praise for Jacques... More

We've visited a number of camps in several African countries and this was amongst the best. The remote location is best reached via a 35 minute light aircraft transfer from Fort Dauphin airport instead of a very rough 5-6 hour road journey. The camp on the banks of the Mandrare River and close to the village of Ifotaka is ideally... More

I had an amazing opportunity to experience this unique luxury camp. After a long drive our guides brought us to a river where they had set up and prepared breakfast on the beach. After breakfast, we crossed the river into a sacred forest and were greeted by 3 families of ring-tailed lemurs and a Sifaka family. What a treat to... More

This was our first camp in Madagascar for three nights, after having stayed at many similar-type camps in Botswana and Namibia. With these others as our reference point, we found Mandrare River Camp to be an outstanding product. The staff were more than attentive and anxious to be sure all needs were taken care of, food (including a great range... More

My husband and I spent 6 nights at the Mandrare River Camp in December of 2015. This was our first trip to Madagascar, and we had planned our trip so we could see four distinct regions of the country, which would facilitate our wildlife viewing. Over 80% of the wildlife in Madagascar is endemic, found nowhere else in the world.... More

We had 3 nights there in November 2015. The camp was superb. The food was better standard then many hotels we have been in. The guides were especially helpful to me as I had some mobility problems. Nothing was too much trouble . , including lunch brought to our tent. We are looking forward to going back again in the... More

Our visit to Mandrare was very special and made more so by the staff and Manager Jacques. We arrived at the airport and were immediately escorted to the prop plane for a 40 minute bush flight out to the camp. The camp is in the middle of nowhere so the flight saved us 4 hour drive over bumpy roads. The... More

Mandrare is an excellent camp and the lemur and other wildlife viewing was great. For being in the middle of nowhere, the facilities were top notch - certainly not luxurious but the tents which overlook the Mandrare River were large, clean, bug free as long as you kept the tent flaps closed and had plenty of hot water (each tent...
