A warm welcome from the staff at this old worldly family run hotel. We had a nice cosy room with a view, great service and some wonderful food. We have stayed at several hotels in this area and this ranks among the best, especial the food. We will be going back.

Sandra, who runs this superb little inn, has that rare gift of making every customer feel that they are the one person she has been looking forwards to meeting. The welcome is extraordinary. We visited The Shears for our wedding anniversary, eating in the restaurant then spending the night. On arrival the barman greeted us and helped with the luggage. Access... More

We enjoyed a family birthday lunch this week. A beautiful pub with very friendly owners. It has a great atmosphere and wonderful all freshly cooked. I had the haddock kedgeree which was perfect for lunch. The house white wine was delicious, shame I could only have a sip- another time. We all enjoyed great food in a lovely comfortable atmosphere.... More

Pretty setting and well looked after restaurant (inside and out). Landlord was attentive and efficient. Menu was varied, high standard and a fair price. The locals were welcoming which was pleasant. suitable for an intimate dinner; family get together (children friendly) ; business lunch or just a beer and a quiet read...safe, clean and good feel to the place! Thanks... More

Booked for Sunday lunch today and the food was first class. Well cooked and great vegetables. The owners made us feel very welcome. Thanks to the kitchen staff who cooked us a wonderful Sunday lunch. We will definitely be back - keep up the good work!

Called in for a late supper. Quite busy but plenty of room to relax. Limited menu and took some time for food to arrive but well presented and as described. Would describe The Shears as more of a pub/restaurant than a hotel. Can't provide any information on hotel facilities.

The Shears is a lovely inn, tucked away in Collingbourne Ducis between Marlborough and Salisbury. The owners, Sandra and Bertie, are wonderfully friendly and the atmosphere in The Shears is like that friendly local you've been dreaming of - at least it was for us when we arrived. We had dinner in the Shears from their menu of pub classics... More

Lovely place. Plenty of games to hand. Good beer. Good food. Sunday roast for two, rib-eye steak, burger for youngest and swordfish for Dad. Clean plates left by family of five. Desserts pretty scrumptious b Relaxed atmosphere. Reasonably priced. Will return soon.

Great garden with comfy seating, plenty of choice on the menu and the food was very good, the 'lady of the house' was warm and friendly. however the landlord was rather curt and quite offish ! we got the feeling you get the best service from him if you are part of the local click !!! bit disappointed really, probably... The Shears Inn is a real gem!! Beautiful garden in peaceful surroundings to relax in on a summer's evening, a lovely dining room and excellent food beautifully presented. Add to that top class friendly service for a totally enjoyable dining experience. Couldn't fault it! Will certainly go again and look forward to actually staying there next time.
