We've been to the BVI 9 or 10 times over the last 30 years; this was our first stay at Scrub Island. We are not sailors (i.e., we are not chartering a boat); we certainly get out on the water and do a couple of day sails etc during our vacation. We were very pleased with our stay at Scrub. We stayed in a Governor Suite room (there were three of us so needed a room with a sofa bed). The full kitchen and washer/dryer were very useful. But the views were the best (including our own private lookout tower - there's only one of those so we were lucky to get that particular suite - but it was August so the hotel not too busy - though lots of boaters passing through). All the food and drink were well prepared and at a price expected in the BVI. We had a private beachfront dinner (near the date of our anniversary); beautiful setup and terrific service (thanks to Jack).. Wife and daughter loved the spa. Definitely spend some time at North Beach (hotel provides easy transportation to and fro). Not great for swimming but long beach with lovely sand - and also a pool/bar/cafe. And there's a small beach next to the marina and the main hotel pools (with walkup bars) are lots of fun. t was also great to have daily housekeeping and turn down again (as that was usually suspended during COVID). The room was always left in tip top shape. Dia and Roshida - concierge desk - helped plan trip in advance and helped with lots of things after we arrived. Dive BVI has a store at the resort and our day trip with Steve from Dive BVI picked us up at the resort. The resort ferry to Trellis Bay times well with the ferries from Trellis Bay to Virgin Gorda (our favorite island) . We spent two days on Virgin Gorda. Coco Maya restaurant was excellent. We woudl definitely return to Scrub Island to stay and as a base to explore the BVI.

The past three times we have sailed the BVI, we have stayed at Scrub Island for a couple of days after our trip to get our land legs back before returning home. We have always had a great experience. Our past experience was particularly memorable because I injured my foot during our sail and while I fought through the pain during our sail, it was clear I needed medical attention at the end. The team at Scrub Island contacted a doctor that not only came to the resort, but came to our room to evaluate my injury. A tetanus shot, antibiotics and many bandages later, I am on the mend.

Very relaxed. Great staff and facility was top tier! The sailing and diving in the BVI's were amazing. My next trip plan to start and end on Scrub island, with on site sailboat chartering through Dream Yacht and on site scuba center.

Red Carpet Service, Amazing Staff & Best Venue in the British Virgin Islands. After a 6 day sail, I brought my family here for a 6 day recovery. Not only did we find a home to relax with the best views in the BVI, but our children made friends with kids from all over the world. We are always exited when our kids make fast friends; but, what made Scrub Island unique was the diversity of families from all over the world. While the kids took to the pool slide & waterfall, we found ourselves organizing our next sailing trip with other couples we met at the swim-up bar....try the Scrub-Slide. It is hard to sum up all the luxuries & adventures provided by Scrub Island; but, as someone who is always looking for a balance of family, outdoor activities & romantic getaways we found Scub Island to check all those boxes. + Make sure to request a trip to Sunset Point, for the best view in the Islands.

I completed a stay at Scrub Island which was generally positive. The hardware was not the most impressive but the combination of residential style with the secluded location and facilities made for a hotel where I would return. While the resort was in a somewhat remote location, our arrival experience could not have been smoother: upon exiting EIS airport a minivan promptly picked us up and brought us to the dock nearby and then it was a short boat ride to the hotel so door to door was less than 20 minutes. Many resorts in the Caribbean are currently overly crowded but this one was definitely not. Scrub Island is a private island where there is nothing other than the hotel. Occupancy seemed to be quite low, in fact most people we saw were marina guests (not hotel guests) who were allowed to use the hotel facilities such as the pool. There will probably be some development on the island for years to come because they sell land and villas currently under construction but from the main building where we were, the construction was finished so we were not bothered by noise. I booked the basic room and received an upgrade as Bonvoy Ambassador Elite to a suite which was not only a lot more spacious than the normal rooms but also came with a full kitchen which was very convenient at this resort because there was a small grocery store on site including a fairly wide selection of wine and liquor at grocery store prices, not at elevated resort prices. As it’s an Autograph hotel it was not quite luxury although the hotel is not cheap (used to be cat 8). I believe the price point might reflect the isolated nature of the resort and the quality of the common areas, more so than the rooms which are a bit dated and nothing special except for the views which were nice. The reliance on the grocery store had its limitations however because they only receive new deliveries on Fridays so as we got to mid week they were running out of lots of items so we bought a few things a couple days before we needed them. The restaurant had most seating indoors but a few tables outdoors as well which was sufficient given how quiet the restaurant was but during times of high occupancy people might be disappointed to be forced to sit inside. The breakfast was ok but definitely non-luxury and could have used an a la carte menu but it was buffet only with a live egg station. The hotel had a couple of pools, one with views and one lower down the stairs with a slide. About a 10-minute walk away we could get to a small beach which was also accessible via hotel cart. The beach itself was fine but stepping into the sea would have required some shoes because the floor was rocky. There was another small pool in that location and a bar as well. Overall Scrub Island is a solid hotel and we liked having the ability to do home cooking and our own laundry while being in something more exclusive and more upscale than a Residence Inn or a Marriott Executive Apartments. If I did not receive a suite upgrade I would possibly feel differently because the non-suites do not have a kitchen and then it would be necessary to rely on F&B at the hotel which was not a strong point.

I stayed at Scrub in December 2019 for 10 nights and loved every minute (you can read my review from that trip as well). I couldn't wait to return and did so a couple weeks ago, this time with my boyfriend. While it is still a great property with wonderful service and staff, I was disappointed with several aspects. I may still return again someday, but I am not in a rush to do so as a result of several changes which I will share below. But first, I would like to share the fantastic aspects of this resort: 1. The staff is phenomenal. Shervon, the concierge, worked by email with me for a couple of months prior to my trip to help me plan excursions, including arranging taxis, etc. She gave me great ideas for how to make our anniversary special. It was great to meet her and thank her in person upon arrival! Junior, the assistant working on the ferry most days, is still a gem. He always gives us valuable information about our transportation and food options once we land in Trellis Bay. One day when all passengers were going to Loose Mongoose, he had the captain drop us off there instead of the usual dock. Anthony drove us around the island our first evening right at sunset, allowing my boyfriend to get the lay of the land and me to take some great sunset photos. He was quite personable. Troy at the North Beach and pool bars was great. And I have forgotten the name of the Room assignment woman who contacted us our 2nd-to-last day to upgrade us to a suite. 2. The private island experience is unique and a selling point for sure! Nowhere on property ever feels too crowded. The staff removes seaweed on North Beach every morning; the resort grounds are beautiful; the Wifi works perfectly, etc. The bath products (e.g. shampoo, lotion, etc) are still top-notch. The robes and slippers are a nice touch. 3. The ferry service to Trellis Bay that is included in the resort fee runs perfectly and is a unique feature of Scrub Island Resort. 4. Having day trip options that leave from your doorstep is unmatched! The harbor itself is a HUGE reason to stay here, and of course it's beautiful. I love that every room overlooks the harbor. 5. The food at the Outpost is good and has great value for your money. We got lunch sandwiches and chips from there twice, and pizza for dinner once. And now the downsides of staying at Scrub: 1. The rooms are in need of maintenance/décor improvements. Our first room’s couch had no back cushions. We compared it to the website photos, where our same couch was shown with back cushions. You really could not sit on that couch. We called to ask if they had them to provide, and they sent someone to look. When I showed her that you can feel the wood support beam when you sit back on it, she claimed that it was supposed to be that way and there were no cushions for it. We did not mention that their website shows cushions; I did not want to be “that guest”, but it was truly unusable. Many of their room décor pieces were missing this trip as well. I looked back at my room photos from 2019 to confirm that they used to have a bowl of pieces of sea glass, and other beachy accents that are now gone. The second room's balcony ottoman had no cushions. In looking at other balconies, some had them and others did not. Additionally, the coffee maker in our first room did not work right, and the coffee tasted terrible. 2. The food at all of their venues (minus the Outpost) is not up to par especially for the price, and the restaurant breakfast is terrible. In 2019, breakfast options were grab and go from the Outpost (e.g. $7 breakfast sandwich) or sit-down at the open-air Donavan’s Reef (e.g. $15-20 for eggs, bacon, hash browns, and toast). I chose the sit-down option daily in 2019. This trip, the sit-down option was replaced with a $35/person buffet at Cardamom. The first day, I ordered an omelet at the omelet station. The cook put eggs in the pan with full yolk – didn’t scramble them, and then added my choice of meat, cheese, and veggies. Then she overcooked it and served it to me. The outside of the omelet was light brown, and half of the egg part was all egg white while the other half was all yolk. The ingredients were all on one half of the omelet. Other issues were that there were flies all over the buffet. I avoided all of the food that wasn’t fully covered. We had free breakfast vouchers for our 5 mornings and chose not to use them 2 of the mornings and instead paid for our breakfast elsewhere. 3. The drinks are WAY overpriced. They used to serve them in their Scrub-logo’d cups, which weren’t huge but were big enough; I expect a resort to have overpriced drinks and was fine with the value in 2019. This trip however, they served drinks in the smallest and flimsiest plastic cups I’ve ever seen. And each drink is $12-15. I watched the bartenders mix frozen drinks and fill up the tiny glass and then dump the other half of the drink in the sink rather than give it to the guests. Silly. 4. The North Beach bar was my favorite place to eat lunch in 2019, and they cooked the food right there on the beach. They had fish tacos, salad with grilled shrimp, and amazing mahi mahi bites with mango salsa on top, and the prices were $12-20. They menu now is hot dogs and hamburgers and brought down from the main resort. Of course, you can ask for the special menu if you want things like fish or shrimp, but the prices are $25-40. As a result, we spent very little time at North beach (that was my favorite place in 2019). 5. They tell guests that the ferry leaves Scrub hourly on the half hour and then leaves Trellis Bay hourly on the hour. However, it actually leaves Trellis Bay hourly on the ¾ hour. This caused us and other guests we talked to to miss the ferry and get stuck hanging around trellis bay for an extra hour multiple evenings. They need to fix that. 6. They were still requiring masks on the ferry, but not indoors at most locations. The ferry is outdoor and open air – it’s a boat. Yet, they required us to wear our masks even in the heat of the day. Worse yet, they require their entire staff to wear masks and wear long pants every day in that heat. They need to change their dress code to include shorts and allow staff who are working outdoors or driving a shuttle to forego the masks. 7. The resort fee should NOT be per person, but instead per room (seriously, this is the only place that I’ve seen charge per person). $30/person/day is ridiculous, especially since they have discontinued all of the extra activities that made Scrub special. 8. In 2019, the GM had a complimentary rum tasting and other activities where guests got to meet and talk to him. I was impressed by that in 2019. This trip, I never saw him even once! 9. In 2019, they had a sunset sail, a beach BBQ, and other activities onsite. Some were included in the resort fee, and others were paid events. Now they have none of those. They also coordinated with multiple guests to arrange extra day trips above what DiveBVI had available instead of each guest having to pay $1200-2000 for a private boat excursion. I missed being able to pay $125-200 to join with other guests for a day trip. Their private boat day trip pricing is prohibitive for anyone who is not rich. They don’t even provide a resort map upon checkin anymore. These extras are what make the high price and the resort fee palatable IMO. I will keep an eye on Scrub Island in the next year to see if these changes were temporary for Covid. If so, I will consider returning again. Otherwise, it is sadly no longer worth the price and the long travel day to get there.

We have been going to Scrub Island Resort since it's conception and we have always enjoyed our vacation so much that we have a hard time leaving at the end of the trip. We've been there about 7 times and the staff is familiar and friendly. We are never disappointed. This is the first time we have had a butler to facilitate our daily plans and reservations and it was quite a treat. Varun Dobriyal "V" and Dhruv Gupta "D" were right on with their attentiveness and assistance. We highly recommend this beautiful resort for your next adventure in the British Virgin Islands.

Six members of our family, from ages 5 to 71, spent 8 days at the resort, and also had a slip in the marina for our catamaran. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly, and the room was outstanding. Love the pools and the beach! We'll be back! Thanks to all, especially Nikki at the front desk and Craig the dockmaster for helping make our trip great.

Scrub island fully exceeded our expectations. It was an adventure getting in and ot of Tortolla. Next time I will fly directly into EIS as opposed to ferry from St Thomas. The nighttime arrival at Scrub was magnificent being greeted by staff with island drinks but also the full service nature of the experience coupled with the beauty of the facility and docks/boats at night. All staff in all aspects of interaction were happy and helpful. One standout is Shervon (Concierge). She is a great resource and someone who we interacted with before arrival and throughout our stay. She coordinated a boat charter that we took to Soggy. The facility coordinated our return home CoVid testing. It was very easy but not cheap. Going back and fourth to trellis bay is great. The additional dining options are great. We even got to attend the full moon party which was awesome. Last I will mention the spa. The setting was amazing and like everything else it really exceeded my expectations. Overall a great value especially if you are looking for something off the beaten path and the crowds that stick to those paths.
