I cannot (CANNOT) speak higher of the owners (Fiona and Chris), the service, the food, the location, and the overall ambiance of Maya Moon Lodge. To provide context, we were staying here when the Guatemala President shut down the borders of Guatemala due to the Covid 19. What did the owners do? Provide us translated updates on what was happening, a reduced rate for the 8 days we were stuck there, and continued to provide incredible service, despite the uncertainty of the times. When the police demanded that we were quarantined, they calmly complied and assured us that we were safe. When the Embassy urged citizens to come to Guatemala City, they linked us up with honest tuk tuk drivers and a private shuttle back to the capital. That is the quality of character Chris and Fiona have. This does not even include the delicious food, incredible views, and ability to travel about Lake Atitlan with ease from their dock. The public ferries will pick you up directly from their dock, rather than having to hoof it to a bigger town, which is huge to maximizing your stay at Lake Atitlan. For 5 USD, you can access anywhere on the lake! Also, you wake up to views of of Vulcan Pedro and Fuego! You will not be dissapointed.

I would highly recommend Maya Moon Lodge if you are looking for a relaxing place to stay on the lake. It is easily accessible from Panajachel by boat, the gardens are beautiful, the rooms are lovely, the staff are very friendly and the food is great!

The views alone from Maya Moon would make us return in a heartbeat, but what makes this place even more special is the staff. We got news of the Guatemalan borders being closed and of the restrictions imposed such as a curfew while we were here. While it was easy to panic, the owners kept their cool, eased our worries, and made us feel safe during this unprecedented time. They ensured we had enough supplies and food (which was delicious!) and helped us coordinate travel once we made a plan to leave. Can’t wait to be back at Maya Moon in the future! 🌙

I cannot say enough good things about Maya Moon Lodge. If you are looking for a five star hotel with white glove service staff waiting on you hand and foot I recommend you look elsewhere. If you are looking to enjoy the setting of the most beautiful lake in the entire world, look no further. Maya Moon is the perfect place to enjoy the natural beauty of Lake Atitlan. We stayed in the Blue Heron room with a private shower/toilet, balcony, and private terrace. We enjoyed hot showers daily, swam in the lake just off the docks, and ate locally grown foods prepared fresh daily. The staff is really what made our stay special - we made friends with many of them and will likely keep in touch for years to come. The scenery is so picturesque and the sunrises we could enjoy from our balcony were breathtaking. The cleanliness, service, attention to guest experience, and the hospitality were world class. I cannot wait to return - we will be back! NOTE: You are in a remote part of Lake Atitlan so the pace is slower, some menu items may be sold out by the time you order them, but enjoy and embrace the unexpected and you'll have the time of your life.
